I remembered we had once cross posted about the Corta-e-pica, and finally, after a long, long wait (months, if not a year), the European dealer I usually shopped at got the MAM version I always wanted.  So I would be looking forward to one!

Btw, it'd be great if you could join, love to see those unique patterns from you again on this challenge.

Well, I managed to get my Caneças really sharp. Seems I'm finally managing to use a sharpening stone. I've been using it for the last couple o'weeks and really like it.

Fine, I'll join. Can we awlternate knives? The Corta-e-pica will probably see some use, taking care of beer opening duty and cheese/chouriço cutting/picking.

Enough indecision for me.  Put me down for France.  I have to admit that I looked up Tugaland.  I'm still not real clear on that one.  Nice Tuganese knives, though.  Best wishes. IMR4198

You got lots of good options: Opinel and Douk-Douk are the ones that I'd go for.

I think this'll be a fun one. I've talked a little about collecting knives from the countries my family came from (Italy, Germany, Ireland, Hungary/Romania) so I've got some choices. For Italy, I have an "Italian Army Knife" with a can opener, blade, and screwdriver. I have one Boker for Germany, but wouldn't mind an excuse to get more. Ireland, I have several Imperial Ireland. AFAIK they're about the same as the US Imperials, save for the scales. Could be fun to do standard patterns with less common scales. Nothing for Hungary/Romania yet. Anyone got any ideas?

For Hungary, I got a few knives from a gentleman called Tibor Szankovtis while travelling there.

Though I won't be representing Hungary in this challenge, just like to share this pix with everyone and do encourage anyone whom get a chance to travel there to check out his booth at the market.(I am not affiliated with him/his brand)

I have a detailed writeup for anyone whom may like to travel to Budapest, for knives/tools shopping:

I've picked up some Imperial Ireland knives (for my grandmother on my dad's side) and I think it'll be fun to show them off alongside the American versions. It'll probably be a mostly stockman month, but we'll see what else I can rummage up on the bay in the next month or so.

I'm out of this one, for two reasons. One, September is my birth month, and I would want to be able to carry whatever I please (in the unlikely event I get a knife or multi for my birthday). Two, I will be spending a good chunk of at least one day in September devoid of "weapons." But I will be following along.

I'm having good luck picking up picking up Imp Irelands for the challenge, and found one or two other companies to take a poke at, but my wife reminded me of something that might be relevant. Our area's Celtic festival is at the end of September during the challenge, and it'd be a great opportunity to carry a small fixie as a sgian dubhs with kilt, sporran, etc. Frankensteinishness of "Irish American" highland dress not-withstanding, can anyone recommend a good Irish cutler for small fixed blades, preferably ~3inch blade, natural handle? Imp appears to have made a few in that size, but with the same black plastic they used for most of their other knives. Jowika made some nice antler/bone handle numbers, but they're all too big.

You could awlways get one of the Imperials and put new handles on it. That is, if you have the skill set. If not, there are "knife mechanics" who could do it for you, but they often have huge backlogs of work. Just something to think about.

You could keep a sharp knife with you, to help with the hospital food meals. Those purées and jell-o can be quite difficult to handle...

On a more serious note (who said that?!), hope everything goes well and you recover quickly.
