Day 25
I haven’t made an alcohol stove from a can in a while so I decided I try it with the Micra.

Removing the top was the most difficult part without a can opener or lock (even spring back) tool, but worked.  The scissors cut through the can easily.

(Image removed from quote.)

Then of course had to test it out for some coffee

I’ve thought about how we might be able to do a “30 Challenges Challenge”

There are a number of iconic or  quintessential tasks for a multitool… some are mundane daily tasks, and some are rare but representative of the self-reliance that a multitool carries.

It might be something that spans a whole year, with the 30 tasks to be completed as the need arises. It would run concurrently with other challenges.

The list of tasks could include:

- Make a stove out of a can.

- use pliers at camp for something other than lifting a pot

- cut something loose in a time-sensitive situation.

- open a bottle or can where no other standard opener is available

- open a coconut (my personal favorite)

Day 26

I had to put some fence up to keep the piglets in, I had to cut some zipties to remove posts to repurpose the fencing.

The Micra cutting more fishing line, this time for a 58mm build.

Dragonfly blade turned out pretty good yesterday.  Gave it a light stone wash after the acid etching dips.

Day 27

The common and uninteresting opening of a padded envelope containing drink mixes, however they were bought straight from the manufacturer instead of a  retailer.  I tend not to do that for fear of direct marketing. but I made an exception because I had a coupon.

Im thinking of getting a Buck 112 with lightweight handles  :dunno:
I have one that's looking for a new home. If you PM me your address, I'll send it your way. We can work out particulars later.

Travel day with my well-worn luggage.
Looks as if your luggage held up quite well!

Indeed it did!

More great stuff from awl! :tu:

Day 27

Today we honor those brave military personnel who sacrificed their lives in service of their country. If ever there was a white Micra, I don't know; I certainly don't have one. So a slightly yellowed SAK is standing in.

Day 27

I had to use the tweezers today - real tweezers are much better, but the Micra tweezers are better than nothing... although that is true for every tool on a multitool  :tu:

I compared them with the SAK tweezers, and they worked just as well (unwell?).

I have some thoughts on the Micra's tweezers, which I will share on Day 30.

Day 28

Used the scissors to cut open an ice pop wrapper (orange creme, the best of that lot). Surprisingly little clean-up was needed.

Sorry to hear the loss of your Labrador, they are lovely dogs...it's so hard to lose them, as they as you said are true friends.

I had a working strain cocker spaniel that I lost nearly 8 years ago...I still miss her....my first true daughter, she was my shadow and protector

DAY 28

Finally back from our long family weekend holiday, the purpose or theme of the holiday was to remember and share the joy of our wedding with our 5 and 7 year old girls, we got married at the famous River Cottage 9 years ago now.

For those of you that do not know of, or heard of River Cottage please see these links -

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/River_Cottage

https://www.rivercottage.net/

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall / River Cottage kind of started my wife's and I food journey, and within reason (children are a handicap), try to go back every year to celebrate our wedding....this normally means a cooking course or dining events....for me this time it was the butchery course 'pig in a day', which saw the Micra struggling to match a victorinox 5 inch boning knife...it tried and did well, but the spyderco endelia had to take over...as you saw in the the pictures of Day 26.

So final day down in Dorset, and before heading back home (a 9 hour drive!!!), we had breakfast there and went for a short walk....

...the pictures are of the cottage garden where I promised the love of my life, my best friend, that I would be hers alone, and her rock....forever

I must not forget a picture of the food...

The mobile data signal has been rubbish while I was away...so here are some pictures of Day 26 I wanted, but couldn't share...

Yes I made sausages as well...

... the view...

And finally reliving the moment...from 9 years ago....

Hello Awl
I am back again. Same old delay of pics with travel and IT issues. I have been taking pics but been battling to post .I will now try to catch up.
This is my day 23 pic .
I went off to a remote site to test some concrete in a rural location then found the batteries for the instrument were flat. 20 minutes back to the local village for  more batteries and then back again.
Concrete was ok.
PIc is a battery swap.

Thanks for the patience .

It's been a while since I've posted a pet photo, so here you go.
Bluegrass seems to like the Micra, or at least its fob. Beijing is leery of it.
She proably thinks you're going to clip her nails with it, or something...
There's only one solution - Let her see you using it to open a pack of steak, and then cut off a generous slice for her!!

On my travels I found a store that sells my favourite beer from Namibia.
See if you have any South African shops near you, or that offer mail order. Failing that, move to the UK, as we have a plethora of ex-pats here.
SA shops are almost certain to sell two beers - Castle and Windhoek. The former is hideous, while the latter is one of only two beers I've ever found palatable
