Day 17

Still got six night shifts to go before a day off, but these beers are waiting patiently for me in the fridge.

I have long wanted to get this one, but several reports on youtube about the weak wire cutter did pursuade me otherwise.  Does anyone know if the issue has now been resolved?

I think there was a bad batch of replaceable cutters that ended up in the first Arcs.

Not actually a fault with the Arc itself, and I’m sure it’s been fixed by now, so you shouldn’t have any issues with buying now.

I do have a gap at the bottom of my cutters when the pliers are closed, and dented one blade cutting chain link fencing, but they’re perfectly usable and a £10 set of replacement blades should cure it.

This Casio CA53 is my daily driver. Gets a lot of positive comments. Replaced the plastic strap with a NATO band from the surprise box, which makes it much comfier.

Retro!  But do you actually still use the calculator function, or it is there more for sentimental value?

I use it occasionally. It's not the most convenient, but it's fun.

Day 17

Wanted to share my larger folders, (#1),  SAKs which are pleasing to the eye and functional equally so!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The One handed trekker was my 1st.

The RED Hunter Pro, is pretty, and I sad to say is unused in real life.

The Hunter in Orange was purchased at a bargain price that I could not walk away from.  It is my favorite color and just had to have.

And a simple Hunter in black, another bargain found on the River site.  The blade is large and on my last serious trip, this road in my pack and did the job in camp and processing a large animal brought into camp.
Added the bright lanyard after almost leaving behind stuck in a log after camp breakdown. It is a beast, performs as a fix blade with full form handle.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

DAY 17  Working outside this morning.  Heat index 102F.  I mention that because I failed to get the sawzall and pruners in the pic before I put them away.   My gloves and hook-thing.  I straightened the hook a bit pulling up very tough clumps of grass

Day 17.

Some watches since others have been posting them. First one is an old pocket watch - here out of its outer shell. Older than 1934 at least because then it was bought used. Still works. Then there is the Zugitec which no doubt was as nerdy as USD 8 could make you in the 80s. And then there is an early chinese Fiyta watch - the brand got big later on I believe.

As for the Fiyta the purchase was part of a random idea I got when visiting China in the 90s. Back then China was still relatively inexpensive. Hence my idea to just walk into a trendy Chinese department store and asking to be dressed up in a complete semi-formal Chinese business fashion at the time. Lots of ladies running about, discussing, pointing, poking, giggling, doing measurements and in general having a great time it seemed. Almost an hour later I came out with this watch, a pant with the belt line up under my arms (but otherwise fitting!), a belt with a big fake gold buckle, some sleek socks, shoes and shirt, and a jacket with rather short arms. It was a fun experience and I might have looked the part at the time. :D

As we're flying through this month I wanted to get my CRKT Squid out to fidget with.  My sister-in-law gave me a gift card from Cabela's for Christmas, last year, and this is what I got.

Thanks for the reply and it's good to hear :tu:, I tend not to overuse my tool in general, but given it's a pricey MT, I would really prefer it is at least performing on par with the original LMs.

I know I keep on singing the same tune, but I really wish Vic didn't discontinue the OH Trekker.  Such a handy knife for outdoor use, and it is easier to maintain than a serrated blade.

Day 17
Another day, another box...
Decided to use the Rebar's knife this time, I never use the Rebar Knife. Nothing against the Rebar knife it is a great super sharp plain edge, I just use the Trekker as my go to blade. The Rebar knife is just kinda held in reserve for if I actualy need a pointy plain edge for something specific.
I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.

More great stuff, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 17

After bending a corkscrew, I swore off buying another SAK so equipped. Recently I realized that was a bit irrational. So now I have an order or preference: no back tools, back layer Phillips, and corkscrew, in that order.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I used Wengers to illustrate the order of preference. And of course, the toothpick broke after I transferredit between Highlanders. Worse yet, part of it remains impacted. :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

Meet FRED (field ration eating device), the Australian (although this one is MIC) crossbreed between a P-38 and those wooden spoons you get for free with some ice cream treats. Fits in a wallet for emergencies. Decent enough bottle/can opener, not very good spoon. Debating trying to grind an edge on it, but haven't done it.
