Day 20

Trio of Rough Rider Electricians:

(Image removed from quote.)

Decent knives, but none of the three screwdriver blades would lock without a bit of file work on the linerlock .

Day 21

I have fallen in love with my Opinel:

The blue jean one is slick

Opinels are great. I think it's one of those things where everyone buys one since they're affordable and have a good reputation, and then likes a lot more than they expected.

30 Scouts in 30 Days: Day 22

Taking a break from the endless faux-kamp-kings for this Colonial. It's marked Trails End, so I assume some scout got it as a prize for selling popcorn or something.

Of interest here is the Victorinox style can opener, which is a rarity on Scouts (and non-Vic multis in general until pretty recently). I don't know exactly when this was made, but I'd guess at least 20 years.

I think that's the first such Scout I've seen. Makes me wonder when Victorinox's can opener patent expired.

Is it related to knives or multis?
Yes!   :D

Day 22

Using my scout to cut the end of the cigar and improve the draw.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Google says 20 years for patents in Switzerland, which makes sense to me. I remember reading an interview with one of their designers or execs once that said they have to do something big every ~20 years for patents sake. That also lines up with the length of time they stamped PAT on the openers (50s through 70s according to the wiki).

That means that other companies should've been able to use this style for decades. On a larger tool with more slots, the claw has some advantages. But on something with only 4 tools, I really appreciate having the second driver. I wonder if companies don't because they want their scouts to stay "old school" or how much it would cost to switch out the tool.

Day 20

Case Tony Bose Premium Stockman in 154CM.

If, in some twisted hell, I could only keep one Case knife, this might very well be it.

Day 21

Case Seahorse Whittler in ATS-34, with Case Bros Cutlery Co stamp.

IMO, this is a great whittling pattern but not a great EDC pattern.

Sneaking this post in while the site is cooperating. Irish Kamp King. Slightly prefer my US one, or the other style of Imperial Ireland Scouts over this.

Day 23 GEC.  Delayed

Found site down last night when I finally returned home😳

For evening EDC switched from Opinel to my Liberty Jack, does very well for smooth carry and opening packages at daughter’s!  Sorry no action shots.

Talk about not being able to get my MTO fix yesterday.  Felt like I was going through withdrawls.

Day 23

Slicing off one on my serranos and sharpening a pencil.  I more prefer sharpening a pencil with a knife than by any other means.

Maybe the typical Scout user favors a lobster claws type?

Day 23 (catch-up)

No Scout usage yesterday. I may test out the awl for an unconventional usage tonight.
