DAY 1

I don't recall where I got this little guy, but it's handy and will be making a lot of appearances.

My favorite utility knife/box cutter for EDC is the Screw Pop.  Yeah, who knows where the name came from.  But its about as minimalist as one can get in this genre, and rides easily with the rest of your pocket toys.  It won't deploy in your pocket.  I prefer a carbide blade for long edge retention.  This thing gets used more than my EDC knife or MT blade.

Day 2

Not much action today on a foggy and overcast day here in Puget Sound. Did manage to do a quick cleaning of the fastback. Also showing one of the features I like about the fastback. The bit driver is awesome. It is in centerline with the handle and locks into place when full open. The bit is double sided so you get a #2 Philips and 1/4” slotted bit. The bit holder also has a half open detent that is also useful.

@Alan K: I like the cord cutter feature, too. There are circumstances in which it would come in very handy.

@ReamerPunch: I have a similar deal. It may make an appearance later on.

@AzteCypher: I don't need to be on vacation to have a huge pile of junk mail.

@Cypren: safe travels and sorry to see you bow out!

@Fireman: great first challenge photos!

@powernoodle: are you joining in?

@JonesE: adding a bit assortment would make that one very capable tool!

A great day 2, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 2

I cut up bus transfers before disposing of them, especially if they're not expired at time of disposal. While cutting a stack of three in one shot didn't work too well, individually they were no match for the EAB.

Day 3

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
This MUJI mini cutter was bought after the previous MUJI. It is a mini version, the slider and snapper are smaller. Similar designs. Use shorter blades (or old used snapped-shortened blades). MUJI sells pack of "short blades" but I just throw in used blades. I usually keep this near to my door. Very handy to unpack boxes etc. And these kind of work dulls the blades faster than cutting A4 paper, such that I can get rid of the nearly used blades quicker.

Compared to regular size one.

No surprise, you can switch the sliders between the two, but the MINI one will need to use an even shorter blade.

Day 2: I used the Klein to remove a scribe from a discarded clam pack of old cheap screwdrivers. I'd removed the panel the pack was screwed to, and had carried the remaining pack to a spot in the hay shed attached to the barn ahead of throwing it out. My grandmother was getting ready for some hay to be delivered, and noticed it had accidentally been left behind.

But, I misplaced my camera.

Got a photo of my two Olfas--9 and 25mm. My local Lowe's has 9mm blades, but not 25mm. Thus, chances are I'll have to order them.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Also, I will get photos of my Gits Razor Knife and Valet Auto Strop Razor Knife. The Valet takes a single-edge razor blade with NO crimped reinforcement. These have proven hard to find in carbon steel.

Turns out, Olfa makes those, and my Lowe's has them.

Day 02
I would have thought there were more utility knives around the house, but this is all I've found so far. The Workpro is probably my favorite for all day carry because it is so light.  It also doesn't need a tool to change the blade, and has a liner lock like the black tool, but it doesn't have the line cutter notch.

Day 2

I need to dig out my other two utility knives.  I don't use them as EDC as they're too big for my daily carry.  I saw a Civivi one today that looked interesting but I don't like that it's as long as a regular pocket knife.  Sure did look purty though.

That's a great duo of tools.  I've got a Milwaukee Fastback, but not the one with the screwdriver.  However, my wife was just asking about what I want for Xmas... ;)

Day 2

I knew this upstairs with my knives, and was easy to locate.

This is a tool I snagged from the SOS box a visit or two back.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

A Gerber PryBrid if I matched it up correctly.

Honestly, this has not seen any use by me yet. Thinking the pry or nail lifter will be handy.

The blade exchange is straightforward, it is a bit touchy to deploy and retract, even after oiling the slide.
I may report on this one again if I do get to utilize in a real life purpose. 😉
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

My
Day 3 (caught up)

This is my handiest utility knife. Used for few years when working construction and was carried in my tool bag side pocket.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Today it yet slides opens effortlessly and easy to change blades as well as to load new back up blades.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Only one spare blade. ☺️

Day 3:

Recently learned Walmart had two different Benchmade Bugout clones--partial liners (just like the real deal) and unknown steel with white handles for $5, and D2, skeleton liners, and orange for $10.

Thus, I bought a few extra as Christmas gifts when people show up. D2 for people I'm closer to, budget for others.    I had selected Tuesday, assuming WM would just ship them to me. They ended up having someone deliver it from the store just a few minutes ago.

I have to admit, these certainly don't feel like a $5 knife. Can't wait to see how the D2 one will be.

Day 3

Continuing on with the Milwaukee Fastback and PST combo. The fastback has a handy clip that supports tip down carry. It is a deep carry clip which I like. However, I do have a strong preference for tip up carry. It is one of the things I would change if I could. It also has a handy lanyard loop on the clip side should you need it. One thing I should note is that the handle is plastic. I really thought I would hate a plastic handle, but I am now prefering it on a utility knife. The reason is that when the outside temperature drops the handle is more comfortable than a ice cold aluminum handle.

Thanks Fireman, If you are able to pick one up I think you will really enjoy it. I think it is one of the better Multitool utility knives out there. I have lost a couple. I think I now have two or three scattered around the garage and truck.

Day 3

I used the black topo EAB to open a bag of cat food. Of course, the action shot was a blurry mess. :crash: Tommy wasn't too keen to look at the camera, but I'm sure he's grateful to have his food.

Yeah, maybe skip this and get something else.
It's a pivot lock (button lock, but the button is the pivot). But it cannot be opened with one hand. Pressing the button unlocks it, but it is incredibly stiff, so it does not flick open. But you can close it with one hand, so there's that.

It holds two bits, but they left space above them(presumably to allow a finger to fit behind the bits and unfold them) that the bits can slide back and forth in their holder. And they're loose in there.

The pocket clip is a very shallow carry. Almost half the tool would stick out of the pocket. Absolutely terrible. It could have gone to a dozen other positions and been ok.

It holds three spare blades. And it works to cut things. Not uncomfortable in the hand. But the design choices are questionable. I regret getting it. I thought it was a copy of the Hart utility knife, but the Hart is much better.

Day 4

Last of the MUJI cutter series (that I have). This is an updated design that is able to mount the blade the other way such that it is OK to operate with left or right hand. It is still the same minimalistic design but changed the slider to white. And the "dot" in the slider is smaller to make flipped mounting possible. Tip of the main body is updated to symmetry as well.

As said earlier MUJI often asks manufacturers to make their own version. This left/right hand feature is also seen in NT cutter. So I suspect it is OEM by NT cutter, but it is only my speculation.
