This is the first time I see a utility knife a bit holder designed this way.

It's the same thing on the Kershaw Select Fire knife. And the Hart utility knife, and probably others. The Neiko is the only one I have with that kind of holder. On other knives it is probably ok. On the Neiko it's not.

Day 04
The Work Pro, which looks just like Fireman's Mossy Oak, helped add fluid to a Zippo.

@ReamerPunch: I'll heed your advice. Seems that one could use a couple-few rethinks.

@kaevin: I like the ability to replace the snap-off blade!

@AzteCypher: I'll get to some cardboard soon enough. But today was not that day.

@Fireman: no doubt the packing tape lost!

@Alan K: I used to refill a Zippo with astonishing regularity. Now I can't remember the last time I did so.

@LoopCutter: looks interesting! Did it have any mint flavoring to it?

Day 4

Today's mail presented an opportunity to see how the EAB handled letter opening.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Owing to the manner in which the blade was mounted...not that great. But a win is a win.

Day 4

Today’s pairing was the fastback again. This time with a Chatge TTi. Pretty quiet Wednesday. Hoping mail will arrive soon. Hoping to use the fastback to open a package coming from Germany with some brass Vic scales.

An encyclopedia set

I had a set of those in about 1972.  That was the closest thing we had to an internet back then.   :tu:

Excellent pics and uses, peoples.

Day 5
Another day of Kaevin mumbling about his snap off utility cutters.

Today this cutter is very similar to the ones before. It is made by Taiwanese stationary company SDI. The locals call it "hand brand".

SDI 0439C
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Front

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
Back

This is a classic stainless steel design. The stainless steel body has "STAINLESS STEEL" stamped in the front and "SDI" stamped on the back. There is a hole in the body, which I guess has something to do with tooling or manufacturing process. The body seems to be made from a polished sheet, bent to shape and the sanded to the brushed look.

The original sticker with SDI Logo and things in red on the black slider just stand out too much to my taste and I have torn it off.

The snapper is polished or nickel plated. I cant tell which is the case).

Parts
It originally comes with a 30 degree blade but it was used up and replaced with a 3M titanium coated 45 degree.

I did not know it has the ability to flip mount the blade for left handed users. I only notice this while I was taking it apart for photo for this challenge. The tip hasn't update for left/right hand dual use though.

Opening a box to look for certificates needed for job seeking.  As my family is now temperately living somewhere else, everything are in these paper boxes.

Cutting tapes when wrapping things for freecycling.

This SDI I bought it just to throw it to my working desk. Now it is back at my (temperate) home. I did not expect much of it and disliked the shiny snapper and sticker. But it is a dependable cutter. And after removing the sticker the look grows on me.

With original package and sticker (from a website selling it)

I hope these long ass stainless steel cutter write up doesn't bore everyone to death. There are only 2 more similar style in my possession. Then I will move on to some cutters that differ more.

Day 4: demonstrating the bit driver while fixing the plate on my door jamb. The wood underneath the top screw has broken. I first tried a drywall anchor today, but think I might as well just glue in a dowel and drill a new hole.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

This would work wonders, but Lowe's doesn't even list them online anymore.  Ace a couple town over sells them--mine doesn't.   Figure I'll just order some, but over a dollar a piece is pricey. They're similar to wall anchors, but specifically designed to fix messed up holes in wood.

But, I might just try a cheap assortment of anchors. Sure I have a few different sizes in the organizer downstairs.

DAY 5  I remembered why I bought these cheapo knives, and it had nothing to do with opening boxes.  I had a place where I could hunt feral hogs, and we were pretty successful.  The problem is that their hides are tough, and they dull blades quickly.  I read that some hunters were using utility knives, and I didn't want to lose one of my better knives in the woods.

I can attest that these open boxes and hogs with equal ease.  :o

Day 5

I realized today, the similarities of a utility knife I used for so many work related tasks 30 years ago to my pocket carry that is utilized today.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

For this challenged, I pulled the Stanley from its tool kit of 30 years.  So it can be carried in December.

That's a great idea.  I have a buddy that hunts hogs frequently so I'll let him know.  Also give me an excuse to buy some different knives. "So I can help him out." :D

Great work for today, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 5

There was no need for a utility knife today (but I did need a can opener, which is atypical for weekdays). So today's photo is a glamour shot of the EABs and the tool selected for can opening.

NT cutter STL-ONE.

Back

Stainless steel and stainless steel blade equiped, claims to be made with chemical resistant plastic. Basically same as A-1P. Body and blade made from stainless steel. The slider is made from pleasing looking yellow plastic instead of red painted silver plastic of A-1P. Usually I like more muted color, but this time it looks sharp but in a good way. Snapper is made from stainless steel with a small circle of same plastic used in the slider at the end. Blade can be flip mounted for both left and right hand usage. Left and right stamped on the body. From the back stamping, one can tell it is the same body as A-1P.

NT cutter made this STL-ONE claiming the stainless steel blade is less hard than carbon steel and less likely to scratch car windows. And their main target is to sell these to operators who stick films to car and car windows. I guess chemical resietance is in such industrial setting. However I think most plastic offers some kind of chemical resistance, it is more likely the silver paint of A-1P is chemically vulnerable.

In short, this STL-ONE is an all stainless dual hand auto lock design with a little plastic. Very useful for opening food packages or when sanitizing the blade with alcohol is needed.

Tbh I have been resisting to get the fastback driver cutter. But it is really attractive. Goes very well with a small plier like cobra xs or multitool like PST or bond.

Metal case/scale always make me smile. Good use.
