Understood.  Looking forward to seeing you post some when you have time.  I said I would try to make it to the end of the challenge.  Then see what happens.  I was signed up for a September challenge.  Might not make that.  Best wishes.  G

This is an old Parker powder horn type.
One of my favorite traditional patterns! :tu:

I’ve gotten too busy to keep up posting with this challenge.
I understand. Stay safe and look after your family, and hope I'll see you in a future challenge!

Another great day, y'awl, and looking forward to seeing what's posted later! :2tu:

Day 18
Ice Cream Sunday

For Ice Cream Sunday, I had this Gerber Armbar Scout that BPRoberts sent my way. :hatsoff: I shared some thoughts on it over here.

Ice Cream Sunday

Glad you're enjoying the Armbar.

Quite a monster! :like:

I really enjoyed carrying it. I grabbed it as a novelty when a good price came up, but it might be one of my favorite multitools for that size. Compared to a lot of small PBMTs (say a Skeletool or an MP400) the toolset is very competitive, and having all the tools accessible without having to deploy the pliers is nice.

Day 18: SAFARI SUNDAY!

A few of you started new dotw threads, and I decided to try my hand at it. Was originally going to carry this as a free choice for Ice Cream Sunday, but realized (unsurprisingly) the underappreciated 108mm/Safari platform doesn't have a thread. Safari and Sunday both start with S, and 108 kinda goes with 18, so what better day to kick it off?

Thread here. They're great knives, as I'm sure Gary will drop by to tell us shortly.

Day 18

Skeletool Sunday

You are doing nothing to convince me that I don't need to plug the Skele hole in my collection!
You totally do!
 :pok:

Also, I agree with Steve’s choice, i.e. that the CX is worth the extra money for the better steel.

With the discontinuation of the Juice line and the entire key chain sized PB line by LM, and Vic’s continued refusal to make anything smaller than the Spirit, the Skeletool may be the lightest decent quality PBMT currently being manufactured.

Overall I like the Skeletool, but it could be so much better with a few design changes.  I put my detailed thoughts on the matter here:
https://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=91718.msg2461139#msg2461139

The Skeletool is perhaps the only PBMT that I carry with any regularity, when I anticipate possibly needing pliers that are a bit larger than 91mm SAK pliers.

We should keep a list of the new daily threads we started to make sure they can be added to the sticky. So far, I know of

Sad SAK Saturday
Safari Sunday

Any I missed?

Thinking about doing Modded Monday for tomorrow, but not sure I want to just spam the board with new ones.

Day 17 : Sad SAK Saturdays

Apologies, posting late as I was helping some friends install motor mounts on their car.  (I posted this under Sad SAK Saturdays as well.)

I learned two things this weekend.

  • How to install motor mounts on a 2011 Kia Optima.
  • I might be starting to get too old to be rolling around under a car without a nice soft mat to cushion me.

One of my sadder SAKs.  These are the only two tools I could open without breaking out some pliers or another SAK to assist  This used to be a Wenger Traveler.  I think a good cleaning, oiling, sharpening, and a donor scale will bring it back to life.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Serrated Saturday (Edged tools I think)

I guess a day of the week challenge naturally produces more day of the week threads.

Day 19
Monday Oneday

Is that the right name?  This is the only alox I have.  It came courtesy of friend Farmer X.  A very minimal sort of carry.  Does just about everything most people would need.  The springs on these things are really snappy.
I thought I might like to pick up a Leatherman of some sort when I joined on here.  Also something alox.  Then one of the bigger SAKs.  Something like the old Champion maybe.  And a 111 would be nice.
The Leatherman and alox wishes came true.  I don't care too much whether I get the last two anymore.  This challenge just crawled along for me to start with.  Now it has picked up some speed and is suddenly almost two thirds gone.  Strange stuff.  I can't imagine doing another challenge after this one.  Best wishes.  G

Seems like Grand Banana is the one who was wondering if there should be a Serrated Saturday.  More of a question than a proposal.  Then he got busy with things and had to step away from the Rotate challenge.  It never was a real thread.  Could have been, but wasn't.  Best wishes.  Gary

This is just awlsome stuff  :woohoo:

I'm back in the UK for a few days.

The use of a proxy server (Nord) was a bit hit and miss. I'm not sure it worked out as imagined and I still had trouble signing in and appearing elsewhere etc  ::)

However, having returned to Blighty, I was asked to water a neighbours plants (whilst they're away) and discovered they have purchased an electric scooter....in BEIGE  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

No doubt, I will need to unfriend them, but here's a pic' of my current UK EDC resting upon said abomination.
They don't like it up 'em!

They're great knives.
I wish I could attest to that firsthand.

The first SAKs I own disappeared long ago. Kudos to you for not letting that one slip through your grasp! :hatsoff:

:like: I suspect the older type of file fe by the wayside because the screwdriver does better as a nail cleaner than the pointy tip does as a screwdriver.

Yes. Not that I'm biased or anything, but you picked a great Monday Oneday subject!
