Day 26:
New knife day! When I got the email from Swiss Knife Shop with this Rainbow Trout Fisherman, I had to have it! Picked it up from the PO this afternoon. No use today. Just worked on cleaning up leaves put of the garden so we can till it. That is until it started raining. Put some more tape on my lighter but misplaced my paperclip. I'll have go go search the junk drawer for a new one.

That rainbow SAK looks like you could tie a line on one end and put two treble hook sets along the back and catch bass with it.  I raked leaves yestiddy.  Dry on top and black and wet on the bottom.  Made the leaves rather heavy.  Best wishes.  Gary

Probably so! I burned a few leaves but quickly gave up on that. Hauling them to the firepit wasn't fun. My town has an ordinance that all fires have to be in a contained firepit. Would be much easier if I could just burn the whole pile. Ill just haul them along with a bunch of limbs out to my dad's burn pile out of town.

Day 27

The lost small tinker is found ! Went missing late last month, was making the bed and suddenly there it was under a chest I moved . Figure it must have been  stuck in the mattress crevices somehow.
I was  worried I wouldn't have it for the challenge , but like MacGuyver himself , it found a way to get there in the end :D
Great rejoicing in my house this night  :woohoo:

Day 27

Decided to haul trash and some broken down boxes to the dump.  Drove down the slippery way to the mailbox.
Mailbox was still standing.  Checked that box.  Good start.  Then I saw what looked like a body about 20 feet past the mailbox.  Big bundle of cloth.  Maybe a couple of quilts rolled up.  Right on the edge of the drop-off of the bank.  Next stop, the muddy Cullasaja.
I had my MacGyver kit.  Time to do some thinking.  Do a quick flowchart.  Body or no body?  No body, no problem.  Just trash to pick up later.  Body.  Dead body or live body?
Dead body.  Body can take care of itself until I return.  Live body.  It can take care of itself, or I can call for help when I return.  Anything to MacGyver?  Nope.
I drove on.  Hauled trash.  Bought some chips at Food Lion.  Headed home.  About a half mile from my house, I see a hobo with a pack.  Dirty.  Punching himself in the chest as he walked.  Hmmm?
Back at the mailbox.  I slowed down and parked in my driveway.  Where did the possibly human bundle go?  Flowchart again.  In the river.  Picked up by bundle picker-upper.  Possibly walking down the road a half mile from my house.  Punching himself in the chest.
I took the third route as the most likely.  That was a rough old spot to spend a night.  It rained about midnight.  The bundle wasn't waterproof.  Roll over in your sleep and wake up underwater.
He should have walked about 50 more feet and asked the mysterious Ms. Phoenix if he could sleep on her porch.  If she said no, he could have walked right back where he was, assuming she didn't drag him down into her underground vampire lair.  Maybe he would have gotten something to eat?  At least he would have been out of the rain.  Her porch wouldn't have looked any worse with a sleeping vagrant on it.
Best wishes.  G

Day 27

A quiet day so far!  Was thinking, how many choices did Mac have, regarding what SAK he selected to carry each day and why he selected that one SAK ?

For me, I am just thinking, I have 3 I really enjoy carrying,
They are so similar, yet different!
My EVO 10, I just like the tool set and this is grippy, and a 84mm.  The corkscrew is just handy to have!
The Spartan, what is not to like, the original load out that SAKs have been equipped for like forever…
The Sportsman, my more e ent variant, I did know existed until this month.   The nail file is handy, just faces the other side than the EVO

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Then, Mac had duct tape handy!  When I grew up, besides a knife, we carried about 5 to 10 feet of bailing twine wadded up in our pocket. No tape. The length carried well, could help mend a broken fence, tie a lever in place, mend a hay bail if bailer’s knitter failed, if it ran through the washer mom did not get angry, actually the twine was stronger yet having been wet the dried.

On the TV show it may have been another product placement, for suggestive advertising.   What is Tim Leatherman created his tool a couple years earlier would Mac liked it?

Just thinking 🥺. Now my head hurts, oh yea, the farm store was not to happy when I tried to open a spool of twine and attempted to strip off ten feet or so…
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

SAK action required…

Watch band broke, needed to install a replacement.

Cap lifter’s flat blade (combo tool?) was used to release the latch on each side of case to remove the old band on a iWatch

Day 25:

I spent Friday evening watching videos from NOAA’s recent dives on the wreck of USS Yorktown at Midway. There’s a mural painted on the wall of one of the aircraft elevator shafts that’s still in great condition, even after 83 years at 3 miles underwater. Fascinating stuff.

Day 27
MacGyvered an alcohol stove and windscreen.

Tape made sure I cut straight and made pieces the right size.  Can opener removed top.  Knife and scissors ct pieces.  Awl made indentation for flame, air hole, and windscreen air holes.

There is many versions, but this is the easiest I know and it works.
