Day 30 follow up

As mentioned I did finally had a need for the paper clip (large) and duct tape.

As I shared at daughter’s last night for dinner,  a friend of granddaughter visited, right wrist and hand in a cast.  Result of a fall this past weekend.

She shared that she needed to get up early so her sister could button her work shirt and her fingers were still numb from the injury.

I told her I could help her and did reshape my paper clip, while she rolled her eyes, and granddaughter said hold on he is sometimes clever in strange ways.

I then unrolled the tape about 4 inch’s and then laid the reshaped clip onto the tape and then roll it up.

This is a make shift button threader, can be used to pull a button through the hole, to fasten.  Or, can guide a button out of the hole to unfasten.

insert through button hole and grab the button.

pull the tool and button through hole.  Slide tool from under button.

I have finger dysterity issues myself and have a few of store bought items laying around the house.   But, a pain if traveling if I forget to pack one and the paper lip idea helped my last trip. The tape makes a better option to grip. 😉

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I'll have to check, but I think that using duct tape and a paper clip both in tool making deserves gold braid to go with your MacGyver badge.  I wonder if anybody ever tried to button something with the parcel hook on a SAK?  Best wishes.  G

Now I never thought of the parcel hook, it maybe too thick, depending on how tight button is to fabric and also size of button hole.

Now I am curious.

The one I made last night, went home with the young lady!

Had to locate a second large paper clip and then duplicated my project for the pictures. Also, shirt was from my summer clothing collection😜

Some really cool 'Gyvering this month. I'll probably keep carrying the duct tape card, and I just left the paperclip on there. As awlways, an SAK challenge is nice. I own however many bigger, flashier, more "professional" multis, but I'm happy to carry a nice Huntsman or something 90% of the time.

Day 30

One of my few SAKs older than MacGyver, this Angler?Fisherman? has the file phillips. Would probably convert off of team corkscrew if Vic brought them back.

Thanks for hosting RP! See a bunch of you over in the Green challenge tomorrow.

👍 that is a nice feature BPRoberts.  I have not seen that feature, EVER!

According to the wiki, it was a thing from sometimes in the 50s to the 70s, so a narrow enough (and old enough) band that they're not super common. That knife also has the clip point blade and metal tabbed tweezers. I think the only major 91mm tool version that I don't have any examples of is the long nail file. Maybe someday...

Day 30:
I feel like I didnt accomplish much this month with my SAK, tape, and paperclip. I used my various SAKs every day, used the tape a few times, and never needed a paperclip for anything outside of clipping papers at my desk. Its been a fun one and I'll see many of you tomorrow for Green Meanie.

Got to remember that the real MacGyver didn't disarm a thermonuclear device, rescue a spy from a gulag, or fight a giant in a fake sasquatch suit every day either.  He only saved the world once a week on CBS.  The other six days of the week he taught school.  Pretty heroic in a different way.  Different sort of challenge doing that.  Same requirements.  Be prepared for anything.  Think on your feet.  Don't give up in hopeless situations.  That's a hero.  Best wishes.  G

Day 30

My trusty Spartan was the main SAk for this challenge and did not use the paperclip or duct tape. I did come closer to using the PC for its intended proper this week,  but ended up not needing to Auth the papers I was organizing.  BUT. I think i will carry both our add to my EDC for when the time arrives.

This was a fun challenge and I enjoyed the ingenuity of many of you. Good stuff.

So was the little girl happy.  I know as a little one, I would have loved something like that especially considering it would help be more independent while injured.

Day 30

The Tinker helped with some dinner prep.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

It’s been a great challenge, even though I didn’t get much use out of the paperclip or duct tape. Even so, it was fun to go a bit more minimalist on my SAK choices, 80s MacGyver style, and remember that well.. maybe I don’t need all the stuff I think I do most of the time.

This has been two challenges in a row for me, so I’m ready for a break. I hope everyone enjoyed it!

@LoopCutter - I agree with Gary, a gold braid is deserved.  You pulled a MacGyver².

@Gary - Always love your stories as well.  I end up showing Amanda most of the time.

Day 30

Thanks to ReamerPunch for hosting this Challenge.  It was fun.  I'm glad I was able to use all 3 items during this challenge.

Ended up using the small blade on my Super Tinker to open this bottle of Sriracha for lunch this afternoon.

I'm a little worried about the Greenie Meanie Challenge.  Green is my favorite color so I have a hard time saying no to green "items" and I know I'm going to see some really cool "items" during this challenge.

See y'awl there.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Yes, she had to work it a couple or four times fastening and unfastening.  She was 19, and happy she did not need to get up at 5 or so for somebody to button her shirt.

My old granddaughter was as impressed as I am with her cake decorating skills.

My youngest grand, just said. If you hang around him (me), he  does all sorts of weird stuff with tools in his bag.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Day 30

Sad to report that I ended the challenge with nothing more exciting than peeling an orange with the MiniChamp.

Other than Scotch tape a few times, no tape use. No paperclip use either other than for clipping papers.

Apparently my life is too quiet to be a secret agent.   :dunno:

Still was fun though. Lots of good stories and pictures.   :tu:

It's been great fun, thanks. So many great photos, usage and posts. Especially yours, G. :tu: Always a laugh, but sometimes also with some rather deep reflections mixed in. Love your writing style. :hatsoff:

So many thanks to all you good folks here. For a newcomer like me it has been exciting to participate and not just follow from the sideline. The amount of participants in this challenge has made it difficult for me to follow in great detail, but that also makes the posts quite varied and the thread very lively, which has been great.

💥DAY 30💥

was out of range and could not get this one to post last night so here we go. This was a really fun challenge for many reasons but for me personally it made me realize that before this challenge I was carrying way too much!

The two SAKs that really made me rethink my carry are the red PX and of course the minichamp. that lil mini can accomplish so many tasks on its own, sometimes... most times... it's all you need.

Cheers everyone

Day 30:

I used the orange peeler to remove a staple from a set of drawings. Not much of a MacGyverism, but I think it’s a fitting one for the end of the challenge, since the orange peeler features so prominently in the opening credits.
