Maxpedition Beefy

Shortly after the Maxpedition EDC pocket organizer was released, people were asking for more. We wanted to go bigger, so Maxpedition listened, and released the Fatty and the Beefy. Veering away from pocket organizers and closer to bag organizers, the Beefy especially aims to tackle much, much more than what is in your pockets. Was it successful?
Well, yes, it was, but let's take a closer look.

Dimensions
-Main compartment: 6"(L) x 2.5"(W) x 8"(H)
-Interior left: One (1) 6"(L) x 6.5"(H) slip pocket with 9 horizontal elastic channels
-Interior right: One (1) 8"(L) x 5"(H) zippered pocket and 6 vertical elastic channels
-Exterior front: One (1) 5.75"(L) x 5.25"(H) mesh pocket and loop field for ID patch
-Exterior rear: 3 rows x 4 channels PALS webbing with over-sized grab handle made from 1" webbing


Materials
-1000-Denier water and abrasion resistant light-weight ballistic nylon fabric
-Triple polyurethane coated for water resistance
-High tensile strength nylon webbing
-High tensile strength composite nylon thread (stronger than ordinary industry standard nylon thread)
-Internal seams taped and finished
-Paracord zipper pulls
-Stress points double stitched, Bartacked or "Box-and-X" stitched for added strength
-YKK® high strength zippers and zipper tracks
-Teflon® fabric protector for grime resistance and easy maintenance



Features
Outside on the front, there is a Velcro panel to attach patches, and a mesh pocket. This is perfect for emergency items, like a poncho.
There is also a carry handle, and molle straps on the back, to attach this to other gear.
Inside, there are elasticated straps to hold gear securely. One side has an upright pocket, and the other side has a zippered pocket. There are also a strap with a d-ring on it, and a paracord loop, to attach things so they won't ever fall out, like keys. Versatility is obvious. There are infinite ways of loading these, and being the largest in its line, the Beefy's potential is even higher.



Durability
As with all Maxpedition pouches and gear in general, the Beefy exhibits all the qualities of its siblings. It is very well made, and with just basic care, it will stay like new for many years. The materials are of excellent quality, resistant to elements, tears, and abrasions. This product line is not new. It has been around for ages, and it has been proven itself time and time again.

Stuffing
Being the largest in its series, the Beefy was designed specifically to be bigger than the rest, and hold entire kits, First Aid, survival, EDC, admin, anything. Of course, this is not a pocket organizer, unless you have the largest pockets in the universe. This is designed to go in a bag, or even hang off of one. The molle straps on the back allow this to be attached to other gear. This means that it holds small things in one organized place, and doesn't even take space in your bag, and has everything readily accessible outside your main bag, killing three birds with one stone.

Carrying
The handle offers an excellent way of retrieving this from a bag. The Beefy is quite large, so potentially a little more awkward to grab a hold of compared to the Mini and Micro, so the handle is even more important here. I see many people who just got these say they are thinking of cutting the handles off, and I would advise against that. The handle is soft and malleable and will collapse and take up no space. Removing it will not save you any space or weight, but you will lose the ability to carry it easily, or pull it easily out of another bag, or even hang it off a branch.
The molle straps allow this to be attached to other gear, or even hang it off a belt. This is an excellent feature that adds versatility with no extra bulk.

Conclusion
The Beefy was a purposeful offering from Maxpedition, in direct response to the consumers, aka us. We asked for a bigger pouch so we could hold more, and Maxpedition delivered. The Beefy may not get the same screen-time as the EDC or Micro, but just like all of its siblings, it is out there, carrying our First Aid Kits, carving sets, stationary, toolkits, and much, much more.
Of course this is recommended, if you are looking to go big. Picking this over another one is only a matter of size. This is of the same high quality as the Micro, EDC, etc, only bigger. If you are looking for a large organizer for a bag, this is perfect. If you are looking for a pocket organizer for your cargo pocket, maybe go with the Micro.

If this is too big for what you need, go smaller, with the Fatty, EDC, Micro, or Mini.

Very cool pouch!

I personally prefer a smaller one, but then I also find the small ones fill up a little too fast.  It's the usual case of wanting something smaller that carries more.
