Kinda doubt it, but then I wouldn't be exactly surprised either.

I'm afraid it's going to be something to the effect of "We decided that quality wasn't up to snuff, so we're moving production back to the U.S.  Oh, and now it'll cost $30."  Nothing against a design coming home, but the low cost is what really makes this tool appealing.  Here's to hoping that it's a cool announcement, and not a bad one.
Half-ass done wholeheartedly!

I have been in touch with SOG this week- so far no confirmation of any rumors.  As soon as I know anything, I'll be sure to pass it on.

Just asked about this over on another forum and Chris from SOG told me they were having QC problems and they were working on getting them out for christmas time. I hope they do cause I planned on giving a few out as gifts for friends and family.

"We're having QC problems..." How many times are they going to tell us this? They have said the same thing about every delay for every tool they've released in the last 2 years. Maybe it's time to try a new manufacturer for the stuff they don't do in-house?

Did not know this post was running.  I called SOG today, they are a half hour away from me.

They told me the ToolClip  will not be release at all.  The project dropped.

If that's the case, then I'm really becoming frustrated at their vapourware techniques. -__-  I mean honestly, is it that difficult to get something of quality made? -__-

If Multitasker can get smurf done with like 2 employees, SOG has no excuse.

I'm trying so hard not to laugh right now! Your right though, but in reality though its cause Shane has ties to the factory and can make his tools in smaller batches and make corrections on the fly. I'll sure he will correct me if I'm wrong. I think because of the size of his company he has way more flexibility over production.

If this is true that's really depressing.  SOG as a company has kind of been going downhill, the quality of a lot of their new knives hasn't been great either.

No, I know that. I realize how different the situations of the two companies are. I know Shane went right to an overseas manufacturer and made sure that quality was the primary concern while price was kept reasonable, and with such a small scale operation it's a lot easier to keep it all in check. It's just that he's been able to build up something great damn near on his own, while it seems SOG has been in a downhill slide for a while with all their supposed resources. The company has stagnated. They have the talent and people, they I'm sure have plenty of pull with as long as they've been around, but it seems of late that they just can't get it together. It's always some QC issue or another. I don't know what the deal is with their manufacturing, but we all know it can't be THAT hard to get something made correctly. Plenty of companies big and small do it all the time. There is clearly a big ass issue someplace, whether it's them not being willing (or maybe able) to put front the capital to get the quality up, or contractual issues sticking them with a manufacturer that isn't up to par, or maybe it all stems from the new guys running the show at the firm they sold out to. Point is: a very, very good company appears to be falling apart at the seams. New tools keep getting cancelled or it takes forever to get them properly built, a lot of their new knife lines show little to none of the originality and ingenuity they used to have, and while it's hard to judge for sure it seems like the quality as a whole of a lot of their product has been slipping from what I've heard (though everything I have from them is still pretty great). Repeated delays, broken promises, the accusations of them ripping off other people's designs (though it's somewhat debatable), reports of quality slipping... it just doesn't bode well for them. I sincerely hope they can get it together again. Unfortunately it almost seems like they are going to go the Cold Steel route and become a lower quality mall ninja brand.

I just had an update from SOG:

As of the moment the Micro ToolClip project has not been scrapped.  The first production run is expected to arrive on or about December 1.  That run will undergo full quality control review and testing.  If they meet SOG's standards, then they will become available for purchase.

Grant and I are continuing to work with our contacts at SOG to keep our members informed as best we can.  As new information becomes available, one of us or both of us will post it.
