There is no difference in thickness between the old vs new main blades. The only thing slightly thinner now is the tang. It makes no difference to the overall strength of the blade. If you look carefully at both you'll see that on the old one the tang was thicker than the start of the blade on one side, this means that when produced the blade blank was thicker than the current one, that means more metal was removed ( wasted) when grinding the blade to it's final thickness, multiply that by some millions and you'll get the point. This way there is less material going to waste.

I'll add that I have one SAK which has the crossbow tang stamp but it's thinner and has the spacer on the outer liner. It's an oddball. I prefer the snap feel and perceived sturdiness of the thicker tang personally, though I realize it isnt actually stronger.

Technician (one of two I bought recently, this one will be a user, but I want to get Victorinox to replace the main blade, the tools are fine, though, the other one is still on it's way to me from the US and is NIB, for the collection):

Sweet score OG... If it's going to be a user, I'd say just polish the blades and re-sharpen them...

This was my first attempt at polishing/removing scratches... The pic doesn't show it well, but the blade had heavy scratches around the blade tip area...

My new MacGyver Season 1 Episode 1-3 SAK!!!  My newest family member, fresh from the bath.  This is a pre-80' w/ square Philips, and this particular one has no T&T.

Not sure if Mac was using a rounded or square Philips but I know for sure it was definitely not El Corkscrew.

Nice Tinker mate

As far as i can tell Mac never used a square Philips one, it was split round Philips ones.
On Ep1 it was a regular Tinker, no keyring, and I think it had t&t.
Up until The Thief of Budapest it was the Tinker small, no keyring, and t&t removed.

But it's almost impossible to keep track of all the sak's used on the whole 7 season's, he would use more than one model on many episodes. I think they just had a big prop drawer of them and just grab a random one for the shot, unless they needed a specific tool of course  :D.
As we all know, 80% of the time it was 2 layer 91/84mm sak's sometimes the Executive. The other 20% was 3 or 4 layers.
As RDA stated on an interview he always carry one in his pocket on the set, even when it wasn't written into the shot. He said he probably destroyed like 100 of them or more through the whole show
For those who remember the Three For the Road episode on season 2, on the scene that he is cutting the stuffing out of the Cadilac's back seat, he said they repeated that shot 3 or 4 times and on one of them he stabbed the seat but was holding the sak in reverse so when he started to cut the blade closed on his little finger... Ouch...

Thanks comrade!  I do remember Three for the Road...  I believe I recall seeing a camping logo on 3 layer SAK he is sporting in one of the shots.  Just did a quick check on episode one and it in the does not have the T&T.

Walked by this baby several time every week. It's been in the window of a local store for over a year (it was sun-bleached from day one). Anyway, in Switzerland it is wrong to discuss over prices and haggle so I have put it off for quite a while. But today I found the courage to go in and offer $75 (half of what he was asking, and for those who wonder CHF1 == USD1). Anyway, never got to make an offer because he said I can have it for 50 :D

Now I can found the "SAK model with your name owners club" 8)
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

A used Original version of the Handyman... Fish scaler instead of pliers.  Seems the previous owner did a bad job of taking care of this baby...

Tools were all stuck and couldn't be opened... gave it some spa treatment... tools now can be opened... Scissors spring was missing, took care of that... corkscrew was bent, took care of that... blade was heavily scratched... sanded it down, only those deep scratches remained... scales were beat up and cracked... replaced it with what I had left in my parts box...
