Today the mailman brought the consequences of my latest auctionhunting spree.  :D

- a swisschamp (mint condition with box and booklet) € 20,-
- a swisschamp (used but cleanable with sheath)       € 20,-
- a champ  (Barely used with SOS sheath where only the compass is missing) € 25,-
- a Sentinel serrated one hand  (seen some good use) € 7,50

I just got the pre-05 Explorer that Lynn had from a trade, and I also have a 111 mm Hunter (standard, not OHO type) on the way.  I'm looking forward to getting the Hunter... The smaller serrated gutting blade should be perfect for cord and straps, almost like a rescue blade, and since it's a side-slide lock frame, it'll be compatible with the regular 111 mm tools so it'll be easier to mod!  I want to put a scissors/phillips layer in it.
The first Noble Truth: life is suffering.  Only by accepting that fact can we transcend it.

A couple of new arrivals this morning.
A voyager alarm from amazon and a +B lumberjack from zag, who was a pleasure to do business with.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Nice I've been hoping to find a MOP with the new file.  Looks like you have a blade with the older tang as well.  I like these without the T&T.  I think only my Horn champs have the new file.

Interesting. My experience is a bit different from yours. From my recently purchased SwissChamps, all new from authorized Victorinox dealers, all acquired in the last year:

  • 2x Staghorn SwissChamps all old (pre 2005) style, blade and mag included.
  • 1x Rosewood SwissChamp, only main blade old style, new SS metal saw/file and mag.
  • 1x Horn SwissChamp, only main blade old style, new SS metal saw/file and mag.
  • 1x Hardwood SwissChamp, all new style, including main blade.

My impression is that Victorinox keeps using old style tools for as long as possible on the special built SwissChamps, in order of their assumed priority. To me this looks to be, from least to most important, left to right:

Hardwood -> Horn -> Rosewood -> Staghorn & MOP (not sure between the last two)
  • None of my "exotic" SwissChamps, old and new, except the Hardwood, have the new main blade with the thinner tang and the new "Swiss Made" stamp.
  • All (old and new) except the Hardwood have better (thicker and anodized) exterior liners compared with regular 91mm.
  • All of these newly acquired ones except the Hardwood have no T&T.The older ones have.
  • The Hardwood one is built exactly as a new cellidor version, except the scales.
Personally I prefer the older style main blade and mag/Phillips. Not too old style, though: I like the hook  :)

I like this one very much. If you will ever consider trading or selling it, please let me know, I'd be seriosuly interested.

A pair of Huntsmen: So Chic Blanc and So Chic Noir. There's also a red version.

Something from Germany, something from Spain, and now something from France. This is turning into a productive month; i.e. expensive.

Two big thumbs up on the Horn and MOP. Beautiful!

Apart from the Explorer I just ordered, via tosh's heads up  :tu: I recently got an alox Pioneer. One of the most basic SAKS I own, but also one of the most awesome....what a blade! And the awl.....fantastic! Bloody sharp too, the awl that is. Sliced open the top/side of my finger while fiddling with it :twak: Will be getting some more of these thats for sure.
It seemed like a good idea at the time.

Nice, that's great, but currently I'm doing some trades with Jamie, the Timekeeper and the Soldier '71 for his wanted list. I'll let you know if I find another one. ;)

Got from the Felinevet, a Vic OH-Rescue.  Like the OH-Trekker, but withe a slightly curved serrated blade instead of the wood saw.   :sak:

Nothing new in the knife line. Picked up a couple of books on photography and been playing around with different backgrounds, lighting, etc. There's some improvement, but I'm still jealous of most of the photos appearing here.
