I bought a couple of Opinel #8 that have red lettering/logo on the handle.
Does the red differentiate it in some way, or is it just another stamping color?    :dunno:

Cool find FB! :like: :tu: :tu:

I could be wrong, but that Flour d'lis design is a French design primarily, and Boy Scouts used it in their logo after the fact. Does it say BSA or anything like that on it? If not, I suspect it's a French motif....somebody from France like Guibur could probably tell us for sure.

The hatted figure, though, he does look a little like Teddy Roosevelt, or U. S. Grant, doesn't he? Wonder who it is.

You’re right about the fleur de lis being French Jim, but in this case I reckon it is scouts and the figure is Baden-Powell, what do you reckon?

As a former Scouter I can tell you that's definitely Baden-Powell and that's definitely the World Scouting logo.

It is indeed, complete with Lord Baden Powell!   That has to be a World Jamboree knife.  I'm surprised there aren't dates.  I was at a Scout Camp several years ago with my son and our troop when I saw a sheath on another Dad's belt.  In the course of events, we got to talking, and he pulled a beautiful walnut handled No. 8 out.  I pulled my No.8 from my pocket, and from that time on we became fast friends.

I'm no expert on this, but I think that's the World Scouting emblem as per the Boy Scouts of America, but it's also used as the official emblem of the Boy Scouts of __insert country here__.   If I recall correctly, some countries adopt the World emblem.

In other words, it was made for an international Scouting event, or it was made for a particular country other than America.

That is the World Scouting emblem for all Scouts across the globe, not just any particular country or countries. It's just known as the World Scout Emblem. It could have been made for any Scouting organisation/event absolutely anywhere.

In 2015 I sold my Opinel #13 thinking all 13s had a high gloss blade and it could be replaced down the road.
A few years ago, I bought another one, but it had more of a matte finished blade, not high gloss/mirror finish.  I've been looking on and off for the mirrored finish one and finally have one again.
Here it is with my matte finished blade.  You can see one of them is reflecting the air conditioning vent in my ceiling, the other is not.
In the other photo you can see my camera phone in the high gloss.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.
