.....
The number on mine is: 1014009830. From my spread sheet; the box is buried away.
That number applies to the Walnut scales, but from the picture it looks miss numbered or miss recorded.  Definetly check the wood grain with another EvoWood.

It's the lightest colored of any of my EvoWoods. Also has the plainest grain. I think it might have gotten in the wrong box.

Karl,
for sure it looks different, compared to the others.
If it was pear or not is almost impossible to tell from a picture.
I took my images with natural light at different angles.
Try to compare your model using those picture.
I can tell you that I could really feel the difference by touching the pear scales and comparing to the walnut from the RangerWood.
Don't know, since I don't have any, if the EvoWood 85mm's had a different finish.

Remember it's sure that wood scales are not directly manufactured by Wenger : all wood scales are subcontracted.

So it is possible that there are several subcontractors using Woods from several places, which could explain the differences of color and touch.

Karl, if you got a pear EvoWood by mistake, great! The pear S14s seem so much rarer than the regular walnut ones. Can you take some photos in daylight and post larger versions of the pear suspect? I got some walnut EvoWoods myself that are very light tone but they won't be mistaken for pear wood.

Here is one such lighter finished EvoWood of mine:

Have a look at this ebay auction.
http://www.ebay.at/itm/Jagdmesser-Gurtelmesser-Wenger-EVOWOOD-14-Nussbaum-Bogensport-Sammlermesser-Jagd-/261387503300?pt=Jagen&hash=item3cdbe8c6c4
Very light color, but definately walnut according to the catalog number from the box label.
But also the artificial light could have a great influence.

Sap wood, heart wood. Same tree, big contrast in colour and grain!

My understanding is that the EvoWood scales are made from scrape lumber. Prior to the info on the pear wood version showing up I was thinking that some scrape birch had accidentally gotten mixed in with the walnut. Since pear is being used to some extent I'm going to list it as 'pear(?)(light colored)' in my spread sheet. May not be correct, but at least it's descriptive.

 I like it too. The Plus versions of these scales, with the shield on front and the pen slot, are even better.

The Young Fisherman arrived.
I'll implement it later on the Sierra wiki page (which is really in need of an update).

Thanks to the heads up by Basilio. I got my Evo 14 Pear Wood today and it's labeled essentially the same as Basilio shows in this image.

While the main label does list 1 14 09 833, it has the description "EvoWood Poirier 14" which means EvoWood Pear Tree 14.  On the 1 side my box has the same sticker as shown with the German AN on it.

This wood looks very good.  Very high quality, but the contrast between the general surface and the engraved lettering really stands out, and makes it really sharp looking.  Maybe the Delemont group will help Vic make some really nice wood scales in the future.

These don't appear in the Wenger 2013 catalog from Switzerland, must have been a special run for the German distributor.  However, since the manufacture date on the boxes lists these as 2011 models, we might need to look at earlier catalogs.

Update: added a cell phone couch shot.

I already did some researches on the knife.
It is not listed in the 2010 and 2012 european (from Switzerland) catalogs.
I don't have the 2011 one, so I can't tell for sure.
However, since the production date is from November 2011, I doubt that there could be any reference on the above 2011 catalog.

Absolutely! Roger Remund w/the 108mm Jung Jaeger a few years ago.

Hi,

Actually what I was talking about is an 85mm knife with packlock and a cartoon hunter similar to the fisherman shown above by Carlo. The Young Hunter shows up on page 3 of the 1983 Wenger catalog in the wiki.

You know, you could restore it like a new one ! But it's not mandatory, lot of people prefer to keep them in the original condition.

I guess this answers my question from the New SAK thread. ;) Yes, looks to be quite uncommon. Don't remember seeing it before.
