Maybe I could add backpack straps as back layer tools?

I do love brass liners even though they add to the weight.  Maybe in the future I can skeletonize them to reduce the weight.

Oooooh, skeletize me a titanium and brass SAK!!! :tu:

I wonder how much you could remove from such a knife and still have it be durable? With the screws and pivots it should be stiff enough to carve out a fair amount of scale.

But then you'd have the law of diminishing returns kick in. The less metal means more labor (and higher cost). You kinda reach a point where the knife weighs nothing and costs a fortune! :twak:

Yes for sure on a 3 layer SAK with Ti scales and steel pivots the liners dont bear that much of the load of spring resistance.

It wouldn't be cost effective to have them waterjet like that, but if I start machining them, I can just drill a bunch of holes as the final step in places you wouldn't be able to see.  Could be a fun project to see if I can get a Ti/brass super tinker equal in weight or lighter than a stock one.  :D

I wont speak for Syph, but if I were ever to get one of his custom tools, I would use it all the time. I dont see much value in getting a tool to display, I like to use my tools. Most of my tools are ugly smurfers now anyhow, as I cant seem to stop meddling with them

My TiRogueneer weighs in at 6.3oz, or approximately 178 grams.  It's 6 layers as well, but has pliers and fish scaler instead of the wood saw and mag/phillips layer.

Once I get the CNC mill going I'll for sure make a pocketed version to lighten up the scales.  I think a 3 layer is about perfect though for me, so Im still happy with a Ti converted super tinker.  :D

What brand of tap are folks using for titanium?  The one I used for my alox scale snapped when I was in the process of adding a pocket clip so it'll now be used as a template moving forward for titanium scales

I just use cheap ones.  I used to buy the 15 dolar ones but breaking those is much more sad then 2 dollar ones.

Tapping Ti is easy if you make the right size hole.   You use a much larger one than in aluminium.   Basically measure the OD of the tap and then subtract 0.005 to 0.010 and that is plenty of thread in Ti.   Also you have to start and backnit off alot. Once you are putting alot of torque on that tap it will snap.   Tapered taps are a must too.

Yeah.  I used a #51, which is what it called for.  I knew I should have used a 50 or 49 but 2 late now.  I haven't tried digging it out yet.  I just can't believe it snapped on aluminum.  Definitely won't buy that brand again.

Ya its a total pain to get them out.  In Ti at least there is the option to just use a strong acid and dissolve the tap, and it wont effect the Ti.

I have been building mostly standard models the last week, super tinkers and such so I havent posted all of them.

This one though is pretty far from being standard. :D  One wrench cutout is for metric, the other imperial.

That is one amazing cybertool.  Love the wrench scales, and the electrician blade is a great idea...wish I'd thought of that before you modded my cybertool.  The Wenger wrench is also very useful.

Beautiful work.

I'm loving my cybertool - can't say enough about how much I enjoy your work.

I really like this setup for a 2 layer.  After fidding around enough now with the awl on back of scissors spring and trying enough things this is what is needed to be done to get it to work.

1.  Bend scissors spring a couple degrees up at the point of contact with scissors as it is too weak otherwise.
2.  Round the back of the awl just a little bit to make it easier to open.  If not its not possible to open with human fingernails.  :D

Nice. My Compact Tinker Mod with the same tools in Cellidor measures 14.5mm. That's quite a difference. Also, I guess the Phillips in a steel pivot between Ti scales can endure MUCH more torque.

For sure.  Someday I'll test how much force it takes to fail, but its gotta be alot more than brass rod between aluminum liners.
