The fact you were getting one helped me pull the trigger :D

That sounds great, I love me some sandvik!

It's funny, you're talking about stripping your 9, and I've stripped a few of mine, but I can't bring myself to do this one. I've got it in the bk4 sheath which is the same except with a hanger, and I trimmed the extra bit off the bottom past the insert. It rides with a bk13, and a small puma knife steel I got from secret Santa here a few years back  :tu:

The trail master arrives tomorrow... Don't think I'll ever know if it's sk5 or o1 as it's eBay, but hey, it was an acceptable price. Is there a Condor knife whose sheath will fit the trail master? I hear they have nice leather

David- I'll take some now :D

Edit: Pics. Better ones when I have time during the day, my work schedule is throwing me off. I love it though, nice even grind, and it shaves. I was so pumped about the trail master and expected this to be good, but wow, The King does not disappoint!

I hear you, every time I get the BK2 out my struggle is to strip, or not to strip......
Strictly speaking they are in my collection, not users, but either way it would make sense to leave it original and/or leave the protection in place.
As mentioned before, I don't get anything with the intention of selling on or trading, and I've been glad about every single knife I've stripped.
There is that fear that you'll smurf it up, but I'm pretty sure short of some catastrophe it will be an improvement.

Fact is I don't actually like coatings, back when I knew nothing about steels at all, I refused to even look at a "painted blade"
And on a very sad note, with this worsening drought we're facing it seems moisture and rust will not be on my list of problems

BIG question is do I grind off the thumb ramp?

Trail Master......yum!  What would be your preference between SK5 and O1?
I would gladly take either.......

I could've lived with the BK2's sheath, But I'll be using what's left of my faux Kydex to get the BK2 and BK9 new homes.  :salute:

Oh, man. The Knife Connection has the Esee Laser Strike back in stock for $97.95. Been wanting one of these. Must resist.....

And of course, it defies logic that I should tell you guys this as a successful strategy for resisting. Epic fail

What does this offer that say, the bk16 does not? I like esee, but it seems a lot of drop point ffg around nowadays. Just personal preferences I suppose.

The trail master is my new favorite knife. There I said it. I ordered it before the bk9, but when the 9 arrived first, I thought it was all over. Far from it! 5/16" puts it at by *far* the thickest knife I own, and the ffg, comfy handle, great shape, feel. Wow. I love it. I don't know what steel it is! Got it 'used' on eBay, (listed as new and may be, scuffs could be from handling, but it's not 'new' new) it was best offer, I got it for $80 shipped and love it so much. Hope its O1, but doubt I'd be able to tell either way. I'd think it would have tarnished or rusted after having sat around uncoated, but apparently not. Maybe it is o1??

Next on my list are a leather sheath for the trail master if I can find one, a set of Becker grips (not sure wood vs micarta), and maaaybe a recon scout :D

Kydex sheath and micarta scales for about $20 more. :)

I like esee, but it seems a lot of drop point ffg around nowadays. Just personal preferences I suppose.

Interesting thing about this knife is that I understand it's a TOPs design for ESEE.

Also, you know, this is not about need. It's about collecting what looks interesting at this point. I already have enough fixed blades to last a lifetime :)

I've been really tempted by the Trailmaster for a long time. I have the San Mai SRK and the Master Hunter. I really do like CS knives.

If you want to know one of their coolest knives, although certainly not as practical, try out the Recon Tanto some time. Got it for my teenage son, so I don't feel the need to collect it yet until he grows up and it leaves the house with him :)

The Taiwan version comes in sk5, or as of a couple years ago, O1

Carbon V is to the best of my knowledge 50-100B, which is what kabar beckers are.

Raistlin- I hear ya on collecting- if it makes you happy by all means. I was just curious, I'm no big 16 fan either :D

Everyone needs a trail master. It's, amazing. I can't believe the recon scout is the same thickness. I wish they were a touch more affordable though

So the Carbon V was sourced from Camillus... Is that to say Camillus made the blade for cold steel? I'm not sure who produced mine, and really the fact that it's uncannily rust and (mostly) blemish free has me curious what it's made of!

Really like the look of those sheaths SG, if one I'm taking on the'bay doesn't pan out, I'll likely go that option. Still can't wrap my head around sheaths that match the knife price  :D but boy, I love this knife enough that I want to live every aspect of it and use the heck out of it!

I also want to get a recon scout, wish there was an uncoated one!

You NEED a Trail Master!!!!!!!!!!!!!   :pok:

(Image removed from quote.)

I NEED one of these

With a 7" blade, not as big as the Trailmaster. Unfortunately, the Lionsteel M7 is over twice the cost of a Trailmaster.

I think that TM sheath was around $75.00.
