Glen, do you prefer them green? Or is that you are too impatient for them to ripen further?

These are supposed to be green, if you wait longer they will rot  :D

Day: 14

Today is Bastille Day!

Mrs Nix, knowing I’m a fan of Bastille Day, gave me this replica of the key to the Bastille as a gift once. For me it is a symbol of freedom, liberty, and equality (and makes a darned good paper weight).  The original key was given to President George Washington by a hero of the American revolution, the Marquis de Lafayette. This gesture was a great honor, highlighting the close association between the American revolution and the French revolution.

Quote
With his military experience from serving during the American Revolution, the thirty-two year old Marquis de Lafayette quickly assumed a prominent role in the opening chapter of the French Revolution. After the Bastille fell, Lafayette was placed in command of a local national guard formed to keep order throughout France.

The Bastille main prison key was turned over to Lafayette shortly after the Bastille was stormed on July 14, 1789 by angry citizens rioting in the streets of Paris. Long a symbol of royal despotism, the Bastille was a natural target when violence erupted after severe shortages of bread led the populace into the streets. Lafayette was optimistic about the fate of the revolution when he prepared to ship the Bastille key to George Washington in March of 1790.

Several months passed before the gift finally arrived at its destination. On the first leg of the journey Lafayette entrusted the key to Thomas Paine, well-known for his participation in the American Revolution. The actual presentation to George Washington late in the summer of 1790 was an honor that fell to John Rutledge, Jr., a South Carolinian returning to the United States from London.

You get varieties that ripen green, but they're normally smaller... Infact, I think a lot of the wild species ones are green.

Best thing about bolognese, and chilli for that matter, is that you can have a bolognese sandwich the day after with (some of) the leftovers!  :tu: Please excuse the lack of finesse, but I am rushing a bit at the moment... no excuse, I know...

Day 14:

Bear & Sons made Kodiak Trapper for today.  :)
The Kodiak series is a more premium hand-finished line from Bear(made in my home state). The quality is easily on par with Case, and so is the price.  :ahhh

A primitive challenge you say?  Could be interesting.  Loincloth not specifically necessary, but I would recommend a liberal and strategic application of sunscreen.
