Day 30

We’re here at day 30  :woohoo: I had hoped to be using my latest SAK, a BYSAK no less, a Wenger M61 red scale 1965 kindly and generously supplied by Myron (a million thank yous!), but the postal gods intervened and it’s been stuck in transit for 3 weeks plus, now scheduled for delivery on Monday, so too late for this challenge by a whisker, but I hope to use it next month in the MTO Unleashed! challenge. So today’s task is being undertaken by Soldier 19’s main blade slicing the binding cords on a new sack of peanuts, which pulled out first time  :woohoo:

Happy day 30, y’awl!

Day 30

This month of Soldier Challenge certainly has gone by fast!  A big Thank you to Rapidray for hosting and creating this brand new challenge, it is definitely fun to join and am really impressed with some of the collection piece shown that I didn't even know existed previously!  For myself, I have been collecting Solders for a while now, but never really did carry them for use, so this challenge did help me getting over that mental barrier to try to put them to use.

Some might have read the similar sentiment I have posted in other threads--is by using these vintage SAKs, one thing that impressed me most is their consistent of quality over the years.  Under normal circumstances, I'd expect a hundred years old or decades old SAK(or any knife, as a matter of fact) would probably be out of commission for good, but yet they kept on performing just fine.  That in itself is quite a testimony to Victorinox as a MT/knife manufacturer. :tu:

Whenever I am sipping my coffee and admiring these Soldiers, I often think about what the knife or the previous owner might have gone thru.  Is the knife right there on the front line with an officer in war?  Or sitting on a desk in a base somewhere?  What happened that year and how did those events affect the owner of the knife?  Right now the world is going thru a pandemic, someday will another collector reflect that while holding a 2019/2020 Soldier?

Nonetheless, it is some interesting time we are living thru, and I know that quiet cup of coffee could very be a luxury that many can't even fathom during wars or hard times.  May we always remember those whom have paid dearly with their lives, and cherish the hard earn peace, that is not granted. :salute:   If anything, I hope we have learnt our history lesson, on the importance of how to maintain peace thru cooperation and communication.

Tomorrow is day 31, and I probably will carry a Soldier on this 'off' day.  But I will see many of you again in the upcoming MTO unleashed in June, and please get ready to rumble! :D

Day 30!?! This was a fast month.  No matter which generation of Soldier you have, you're pretty much covered.  I found that teaming mine up with a Classic took care of the lack of tweezers and scissors.  That awl on the 93mm should be standard issue on all SAKs, just on the cool factor alone.
Thanks for a great challenge Ray, and everyone for a great time!!

Day 30!   :woohoo:

I thought I'd try to take some pictures of my complete collection of Soldier's knives while the weather was holding.  I'm not a great photographer but here they are.

Thanks for setting us up Ray, and for MTo for hosting this great forum.

Fantastic lineup!  I wish I have the room to display mine, but right now they are all in separate plastic bags, piling together in a pretty messy format, and am not too happy about it...

I totally agree with you on all accounts Barry  :tu:
I paired it with an Executive or with the Swiss Card in my wallet.

On non-soldier-challenge days it might be a Pioneer with some colour, or a Farmer...
But I often come back to the Soldier for its even more sturdy build or the lack of a keyring.

Day 30
Used the Soldier to cut some browny into handy pieces. Coffee break time...

Actually it is kinda old...old enough not to have the serial number in the usual receiver area but stamped on the metal where the tube is on the back of the stock...it is from 1960! 60 years old.
I tried to get the BL-22 with the grade two engraving...but someone beat me to it by half an hour. I am looking at another one brand new for $500 regular grade. I like that 33 degree lever throw!
1960!? I saw the browning tag and thought you just picked it up! I like the quick throw lever to. I know Henry’s , Marlins and Winny’s are legendary (love my model 1894’s) for some reason a full through lever on a .22 seems silly to me.
