Is this a _real_ magnolia?
It is indeed a real one (the Missus has her ears covered) She potted a young plant about 3 years ago and now it's about 5ft tall.

I suppose with the added PX that makes it a "Steel Magnolia"  :pok:
They don't like it up 'em!

Day 19
So, a bit of a slow day, setting up the work laptop  :crash:

However, the PX assisted with opening some comfortable "face coverings" (not "face masks")

These are mostly needed now, for use on public transport* here in the UK and Mrs Surge uses the tube to get to work (when not WFH)

*Almost completely un-enforceable and pointless but, has to be done  :dunno:

Long story short I needed one for the summer and thought I'd try a decent one this time.  Then I went on the flashlight forum, and decided I needed to try out a few brands/types to see what I like. (Like I needed a gold pruner, and a black pioneer and a BYSAK, and a.....) I think I have a problem.

Day 20

Busy day for the Pioneer X today.

Used the blade and the awl to break down a lot of cardboard boxes for recycling. Then I stacked the flat panels of cardboard and put them inside a larger flat box that I kept intact.  Then I popped a couple of holes in the box so I could keep the whole thing together with bungee cords for transport to the recycling drop-off.  After that, I used the bottle opener to aid in recovery from all the hard work.

This might be my first legit action shot in the last 2 months... I didn't forget!

How did it perform, you ask?  This might be one of the tasks where I prefer a locking blade (or maybe I really should be using a box cutter).  One of the boxes was corrugated cardboard, and about 8 feet in length. I've been neglecting to break this one down for some time, since I knew it was a tough one).  Any time I cut down, and "run out of blade", and need to pull back and readjust - I run the risk of pulling the blade closed and chopping my index finger clear off my hand.   I got the job done, but I did need to be extra careful.

My workplace actually prohibited these particular types of face coverings with the exhalation valve, in favor of the plain cloth ones (as of Friday, yesterday).  It turns out that the plastic piece on the mask is an 'unfiltered' exhalation valve.  So asymptomatic carriers are able to spread their unfiltered breath out of the mask and continue to spread contagion.  We know that the benefit of the masks is to decrease the contagion coming from people who have it (less so to protect the wearer - as shown in the attached graphic)

The valve is there to make it easier to breathe out.

I knew that this plastic nubbin was an exhalation valve - what I didn't realize was that it takes several forms and is on several industrial masks as well.  (like the one I was about to get  :( )

Judging by the number of people who are out and about today, we can use all the help we can get.

Everyone stay safe.... it's getting warm and sunny out there.  :climber:

Absolutely perfect day to be at the lake here! No clouds in the sky and 31 degrees (that’s about 88 for our friends south of the border  :))
No work today, just popped the top off a few cold ones.  8)

Good work! But I agree on using a box cutter. I use a SAK to break down small boxes, but for large panels like these I would always reach for a box cutter. Also saves you from cleaning the blade from leftover glue  :ahhh
