Let us know how that works out. I've a few knives I'd like to propagate here if they'll take root.

Day 08
A night time shot of the Schrade 60T because I think it's going to rain all day again as it did yesterday.

Proto J-100 keychain screwdriver. It's a design that goes back to the 1920s;  but had been missing from the Proto catalog since at least the late '80s.   In 2016, they introduced a modernized take on it. I didn't know until about a year or two ago that it even existed, when I was going through a 2016 catalog I'd picked up at a local industrial supply business in early 2017; as I needed to order a small 1/4 drive socket I had lost.  It's a really nice solid design.  I had feared, like the cheap Stanley model Proto had rebranded for about 30 years until this new J-100 came out, it would be kinda thin, but it's not (about 3/8"). It is really good to attach to a knife for use as a pull. I'm buying a few more here pretty soon.

This link gives a pretty good history and background of the tool.

Thanks, Cody!

  :tu:

DAY 07:

One thing I don't really like with this knife, the balance point is almost the same open and closed. Ok, it centers in the handle, so it's stable in the hand, but it doesn't put much weight on the blade, so you have to push hard on it for heavier cutting tasks.

That's a gorgeous Bullet! Camillus made so many variations of that pattern. I've been meaning to get "a" Camillus-made Remington (I have a small lightweight lockback Remington that was given away in big boxes of .22 ammo that I bought used later on--nice blade shape, but a cheap Medium Sierra basically).

Day 8. Yard work with the Mercator.  I purchased this sheath from South Texas Tack (where I usually get my Moore Makers; as MM themselves overcharge shipping; and I can get clothes and assorted farm/home stuff as well at the same time). It's made in their in-house saddle shop from "skirting leather". I bought it for a 4 3/8" Moore Maker Stockman made by Queen in 2001; which I purchased used for $30 last year. I believe this sheath, however, is made for a Sodbuster, so it's a little big for that (but fits a Rough Ryder Work Knife "Sodbuster" great). Fits the Mercator near-perfectly as well, aided by my Proto J-100 as a pull/fob.

I even had to use the Proto to pry apart my weed eater's head. Wore it out, so next week I'm gonna have to buy a new one, pickup a spare chain for my Stihl 011AV (damaged old one on rock; and will resharpen it and the even older chain that was on it when Granddad gave it to me) and buy some polarized safety glasses (which I prefer to ordinary sunglasses; but lost my old pair). Since I'm now using an FS70 professional trimmer, I can use brushcutter heads, so I may get one. Stihl dealer is gonna see me cutting a big check again....

Stanley cook cup’s a winner. Water boiled on the Esbit in 7 or 8 minutes, just as well as the fuel tablets only last 15…Asian Laksa cup a soup very tasty

Apologies for not having the GEC97 in the shot, farmer and eldris just there for show as current outdoor carry

I was going to get in on this challenge with a Camillus folding hunter which as a Remington made (or made for Remington blade ). It has the tail end of a bullet inlaid on the cover.

I opted out and have been watching from the sidelines since the last few challenges have shown me that I don’t need a lot of blade in the current state of affairs, and I’d struggle to find any use other than food prep in my kitchen.

Kabar folding hunter attended snack duty, I do that cut for most snack or pill bottles, so not all the content will fall out at once when I need it.

Thanks RP!  Exactly my points for getting this for the challenge  , not too expensive but still a pretty solid offering from Kabar.  Truly a pretty good beater knife, the only thing I wish is different if there is no coating, then I could even use it on food.

:iagree: This reminds me the only thing I don't really like about Buck 110 is how heavy that knife is and how the balance point is also all the way into the handle.  Personally, I always prefer something lighter(easier to carry) and if the balance is perfectly place where my index finger is(so it feel lighter and agile in hand as well)

Getting some beers free from their package to get into the fridge. Sure, it's an easy open package, but where's the fun in that?!

Bonus Pics
The Schrade 60T was called into action to skin an Amazon Brown.
I bought 2 Paul Chen Professional Tools because I've wanted one for some time and keep missing them.  They're based on the Gerber MP-600 but they have shears instead of pliers.

Yes. I would say it's the primary use for these and they should absolutely not be used for cutting hard wire or nails.  I like that they come with a removeable file for sharpening the shears. They're on sale on Amazon for $17.69.
