DAY 7

I thought I'd show off a rather old clone of German origin. It looks just like the pricey new Soldier that came out. I didn't pay $500 smackers--I paid $25 I think.

It is completely unstamped, but a recent thread on another forum showed two knives that were somewhat different cosmetically, but otherwise identical. The stamps on those knives were "STUMP" and "SENTA".

https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=74706&p=1013703&hilit=clone#p1013703

Seems to be pretty close to 91mm.

Tourist and 1970-73 Standard for comparison.

Day 6 (so far...)

Carrying the mid-70s Spartan/Standard today.

No uses so far but I do have my Rambler in my pocket as well. I really missed the scale tools the first day I carried this SAK.

Spartan day for me as well.  Other than a lighter the only use for mine was to fill the space in my pocket.

I do sincerely apologize for the pic.
Really harsh light on the porch.

DAY 06

Today found some tasks for the Spartan.

Awl was the first as I used it to separate some tape on a project my daughter had concocted. Large blade excelled at my food prep today.
Small blade added some help later too but I can't really remember what I cut with it. Ya one of those weeks already.

But I have been enjoying the disappearance factor in the pocket of these two layer Victorinox offerings. I have an older compact that may have been either a frankenknife or a hook with no file at the time. I never carry it. May revisit my choice of companion some days.

Me too CM.  It's amazing how these knives literally do disappear in your pocket.  I'm enjoying my time with the Spartan.  I did the Minimal SAK Challenge years ago in the hopes of trying out my new to me '96 SI.  I also rotated in a Spartan and Tinker.  Guess which one I really liked?  :D. I haven't had a need for scissors or anything else tool wise to this point.

I’ve only really missed scissors once so far when cutting a difficult tag of new clothes for one of my kids. Otherwise it’s been fine.

Under normal circumstances I usually find the 58mm scissors to be more than enough. The 91mm are really nice but are overkill for me most of the time.

Day 7: Every time it rains, the smaller branches of a maple tree droop down into the path of our sidewalk.  I had trimmed some back with my Explorer on the 4 layer Challenge, but some more reappeared.  Spartan to the rescue!  I apologize in advance for the fuzzy pic

I think I started carrying scissors on a knife when my kids were little to cut straws so they didn't poke their eyes out. That was years n years back yet I clung to the convenience of that quick snip.

I do that too! You go to a restaurant and they have kid sized cups... and use the same straws they do for adults. I've been in the habit of cutting them in half for a few years now.

I can certainly do it without some scissors but man do those 58mm scissors sure make it easier!

DAY 7  Living in FL, depending on what I'm doing or where I'm going, I switch from pants to shorts.  The blue Spartan Plus stays in my shorts, and this black one is on a pocket clip in my pants.  Today I was working at two different schools, so here it is baking in my truck while I was teaching.    :'(

Day 07. Wild Night Spartan cut up some salad and (out of shot) a good chunk of Emmental cheese for dinner.

Whilst scissors are good for packet opening etc you can get by quite tolerably with a Spartan though you do have to give things a little more thought. Would it be a stretch to suggest scissors are just a lazy dodge?  :pok:

Nice to see some proper arboriculture Barry. We will just have to accept that the Spartan doesn't have that fine saw a Huntsman does. That's a tool that takes some beating.

I've been doing perfectly well without scissors. My scissors use has greatly diminished, anyway. That said...

Day 7

Glass container and FedEx can be a recipe for disaster. Not the case this time around (luckily).

Day 8

970-73 Standard. It still has some of the features of 1960s and older models like a clip point main blade and scraper in the bottle opener, but has a lanyard ring. Like most Standards, there isn't a toothpick or tweezers, and you can't fit the mini driver in the older corkscrew. And, like most older solid scals, no pin slot. So, I lose about a half-dozen features compared to my Ruby Spartan, and I don't even have Plus scales on it. I gain the scraper on the bottle opener, but that's it.

Opened dinner.
