Day 03

I don't have anything to rotate in for the watch (yet!) and the handgel is what I use most days so I won't be taking a pic of them all of the time. Today's loadout:

L-R, Top to bottom:

- Olight O'Pen 2 with blue tritium
- Steampunk-style triple jet lighter
- Lumintop D2 (highly recommend for a thrower)
- Hoback Kwaiback
- Pioneer
- Bantam
- Executive
- Rebar
- Infinity cube
- Green plaid hank from Firefly 15

How is the Pom?  I’ve thought about getting one.

I have no direct experience other than carrying them.  But they are recommended by Lucky Gunner (see the video in post #102), who I find is one of the more thoughtful self-defense guys on the interwebs.  Pom is not expensive and is small enough to carry easily.  Its comes in a zillion color combinations so its easy to identify them if you have more than one.  And the expiration date is on the bottom of the canister, which is nice.  Pom claims 10 - 12 seconds of spray, at 10 - 12 feet, and Lucky Gunner says this is more or less accurate.

Day 03
I hate knives lying horizontal in the bottom of my pocket and pressing against my leg. They also seem harder to get out of the pocket that way.  To make it easier and more comfortable I attached the 58mm classic to the chain on the Wenger (serrated) Highlander and added the "Remove Before Flight" key fob which helps keep the knives vertical in the pocket and I only have to grab the fob to retrieve both knives now, instead of having to reach all the way down into my pocket.  Much improved.

P.S. because of the picture I noticed that my tweezers were sticking out, and yes, I tucked them back in before they could get lost.  Crisis averted.

Day 3
I decided to change the MT to the Wave fore Wave Wednesday.  I was planning on putting it in the pocket at the back middle waistband.  Because I don’t have a clip on it and the pocket is so deep, I decided it was a no go due to not wanting to feel like I had a multi tool thong.  So the wave goes in the pocket organizer and the Yeoman goes in the front right pocket.

Because I was not driving anywhere and hanging out, the rambler and Mateminco CSF-04, on my car & house keys, got changed out for a rambler and RovyVon A8x with my backyard key ring.

With shorts and carrying lots of gear, finding a comfortable way to carry is a challenge.  Those organizers are great for just this situation and avoiding the MT thong  :D

Day 3

The item in my gear that I used extensively today (Knipex Cobra 125) isn't an official item in this challenge. So, here is a pic of the Viperade organizer, Super Tinker, Evogrip 14, and my orange bandanna:

To clarify the philosophy of the challenge a little:

The challenge sets your minimum carry, you can carry as much on top of that as you want! So don't feel discouraged from including pics of things you did use, if you didn't really use something from the mandatory list. The point is to carry heavy, and you're definitely doing it  :tu:

Day 3

More varied uses, in addition to all the daily stuff. Hank gets replaced after use with another of the same colour, as it's smaller than carrying a muslin for kid-nose wiping.

Wednesday is when I have the kids, and we usually go to the coffee drive-thru - I get a hazelnut latte and they each get a Babychino... but of course each must have her name on her cup, which is in fact the real and only reason I EDC a Sharpie:

SteveP recently asked me about uses of the S557 wrench... The girls like to mess with the knobs on their clothing drawers, which means I am frequently having to tighten them back up.
Here's me doing just that this morning:

I also did use the compass feature on my ABC watch. There were some planes doing circuits very near the playground, so I used that to take an azimuth and refer to the map later, in order to find out what airfield they were flying from.

Thank you for such detail writeup, looks like I really do have to check them out.  I've been eyeing some of their jackets for the longest time, and the p-40 gen2 pants look good.  I have heard Arc'teryx is highly regarded as one of the best, but I am not in that line of work to tell the difference.
Near as I can see, Carinthia is a bit of outdoorsy stuff but more hunting-oriented, with some military leanings too, while Arc'teryx is mostly styled toward civillian outdoor pursuits if that's your bag.
TBH, I wouldn't wear any of this stuff for work as it's just too nice, and I'd be too precious about the expense if it got damaged... Different story if it were to be issued kit, rather than private purchase.

Awl you need is a pair of tactical pants! Though I can see that being a potential obstacle in your line of work.

Day 3

Marble, bandana, and dedicated knife shuffled today. The new bandana is a foraging bandana from Wazoo Survival Gear. The current dedicated knife is my Case 3318. I took the 3318's spey blade to a box in which some honey was shipped.

The finding the right one is why I’ve taken to keep the Voyageur loose by itself in the left pocket.  It can handle most of the normal daily tasks and is an easy quick grab in the pocket I usually reach in first.  Then the pocket organizer with its tools is in the left cargo, where it always is so it is habit.
I am inclined to organize all the items in similar category in the same pocket or vicinity, or then all the multitool/SAK carry on one side probably will weight down one side of the pants.  I tend to carry my Spirit X alone in a dedicated knife pocket, but through out the day, I have to actively tell myself not reaching for the same tool, otherwise this will become a Spirit challenge instead of loaded pocket for me.

That's what I like about Wenger products, they often have the more innovative tools on their chassis.  I think there is a line of Arc'teryx offering exclusively to military only, and because it is unobtainium for civilians, people were paying really high premium for them.  Kinda like Hinderer knives in the early days, but all those price hikes are artificial so I tend to stay away from those brands/product lines.

PN, just sharing a small horror story about ceramic knife and why I ditch the one I own--long ago, as I was washing dishes after dinner, I notice something the very tip of the ceramic knife has gone missing.  It wasn't a roll or chip, but just a clean break and not very visible unless you get a closer look.  I asked those whom helped to prep the meals, and no seemed to notice that and can't recall what happened.

Needless to say, I was a little nervous for the following days where that tip had gone, and threw that knife away right away.  Luckily no one got hurt or had any sign of discomfort, so that was a relief.  I don't know whether it is the right presumption, but I am guessing why most chefs don't use ceramic in professional setting probably is due to the same reason--ceramic is really brittle, they don't roll like most metal knives, but just chip or break.

Please do take extra caution when using or handling that knife, and hope the same mistake won't happen in your kitchen as I do.

Classic liberated a small Knipex pliers from mail, love those little pliers, so handy.
All the talk about gears inspire me to re-examine my own EDC kits, and some items from the boo boo kit needed to be updated.

Day 04
I used the Spyderco Dragonfly to open a bottle of an additive for the car and I used my pliers based tool, the Vic Spirit, to remove prickers from the soles of my shoes before I left a trail of them throughout the house.  I always end up finding them later when I'm barefooted.  The rest of the kit remained the same and unused.

Yeah I get it.  Last week, I chipped a ceramic knife in the kitchen sink and had to throw it away.  Ceramic is basically glass, and it behaves as such.  I have a couple of them just because they are different and "fun", but they require special care for sure.

You get bonus points for the Knipex, btw.

Periodically doing so is a good idea, paying special attention to pills, creams, and such things. :tu:

I've had a temp job helping out on industrial electrical jobs. That was an interesting experience.

Day 4

It was a busy day at the Farmer X homestead, with many packages opened and furniture to put together (see the Locks Up! challenge). No changes to the loadout, but the 3318, Bantam, Pioneer, and Pulse awl saw use. The cats think the Pioneer is the real star of the day. Why? I used it to open a new bag of cat food (thus sparing them from the detestable and abominable urinary tract health food).

Today's rotated in items is a different pattern hank and an ano'd small Sebenza:

Day 4

Mostly the same old stuff. Nothing worthy of a picture, unless you actually need to see me using hand gel?

Rather, here's an example of how my EDC usually gets selected...
Yesterday I visited a friend - He's a mechanic but works independently, so rather than having a large lot full of customer cars, they have to park their vehicles out on the street while waiting for him to fix them. This requires a parking permit, which is just a ticket you fill out for each half-day your car is parked there.
My friend has a whole pad of tickets for this purpose, but he never EVER has a pen to hand... cue me reaching for my Fisher SP!

My friend is also a smoker, but guess what? Yup, he never EVER has a working lighter to hand.

My friend is a mechanic and has within a few paces' walk several entire walls full of SnapOn tool chests, with every imaginable tool. He has straight spanners, reversible spanners, ratchet spanners, hinged spanners, open-ended ring spanners, threaded retractor sets for all sizes of brake pistons, gap spacers and twisty things and turny things and other do-stuff things for specific models of specific brands of engine. If it exists, he has at least one of them.
He even has a LM Micra, a SAK of some kind, and several other multi/combo-tools, but guess what he never EVER has to hand?

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

So yeah, part of what motivates me to carry X, Y or Z is how often I have to use what I have when other people don't have anything.

Day 5

Part benefit of having a bunch of toys tools for a challenge is to be able to play with different ones from day to day.  Here I am swapping out the Spirit with a SOG Pint.

It is slightly sad to read how the new owner of SOG no longer honors the lifetime warranty.  But I always do think they are pretty innovative amongst their peers, and this small size MT is the proof of that.  It sizes comfortably between LM Juice and Squirt, but he leverage pliers distinguish itself from LM squirt.

I have also swapped out the Spydie Salt to the KaBar Dozier.  I love the Dozier and the value it brings, inexpensive but punch way above its weight/price.
