Day 08
The package arrived with the Duluth Fire Hose Flex pants.  I love these things.  More pockets than even this challenge requires.  I opened the package with the Wissahickon Critter.

Looking good everyone! About bedtime for me but I'll get around to commenting on everyone's posts tomorrow  :tu:

Day 08

The only change out today was the knife, which was the Southard Avo, seen below helping with the recycling. The cadet opened a bottle of J2O for dinner, the Boker Redux helped with some work notes, and the i3T escorted me to the bins without any funny business.

Check out my Youtube channel  for gear reviews, comparisons, and carry philosophy.

Nice.  I’ve been tempted to try their women’s shorts but have seen a lot of reviews of snaps not working.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I realized after I tied it that I'd chosen smurfty polyester paracord...
Don't feel too bad. Many of mine are the same way, and I can't sharpen worth a pinch of...well, you know.

Great photos from awl, as usual! :tu:

Day 8

No changes to the loadout. The Tinker got used to open a package.

Me neither , Sharpmaker is probably the only tool that I get the most consistent result.  I am ok with bench stones, but I just don't sharpen enough to be really consistent with it.

Day 8

I finally had a reason to use one of SAKs. I needed scissors to trim some labels:

(Image removed from quote.)

Don't you just love them scissors?  :tu:

Day 8
A few changes.  The pouch with MT, flashlight, 84mm SAK, lighter and sanitary items stayed the same.  The folding knife was changed to a Shirogorov and the 91mm SAK is a mountaineer.  For the fixi, I changed to a mini breacher, which does have a blade just not a sharp one.  With all the other various blades and being in an urban environment, the breacher bar has the potential to be more useful and less threatening than a standard fixed blade.  The bandana was actually two today one of which was used post gun range with some water and a soap sheet to wash off.

(Image removed from quote.)
Too bad the small breacher bar was discontinued, but that's a really handy size. :like:

Day 9

Another day working from home. I hardly ever get out on site much, at the minute.
The girls and I have our day off tomorrow though, so it might be a bit more interesting and EDC-ish....

Meanwhile - This is a hedge trimmer.
You might notice something unusual about it. The fact that my wife was involved with it and that, at this point, it was sat on my workbench with a soldering iron out may clue you in to what the situation was.... Annoyingly, the SwissChamp is actually right behind the darn hedge trimmer, as I was so busy getting a pic for all our friends to laugh at before my next Teams meeting started, I didn't take the time to set up a better shot for the forum. This was most annoying, as the Swiss Champ served double duty in the fairly rare roles of cable trimmer and wire stripper. !!

Looking forward to more detail review...the material sounds really durable, but how heavy is it?
I've been wearing the fire hose or fire hose flex shorts and pants for 2 or 3 years and they are long wearing.  The only issue I've had is I've worn some holes in the right front pocket of one pair for some reason although none of the others have that problem so I can't explain what's happened with that one pair. The Fire hose and fire hose flex pants are no heavier than any other pants.  The pockets are in a good configuration for our uses.  The cargo pockets have additional pockets on the outside. I generally keep my cell phone in the main cargo pocket on the right and my pens in one of the outer pockets on the right.  I keep my torch in the main cargo pocket on the left along with a money clip.  The cargo pockets and back pockets have flaps that are secured with Velcro but if you prefer not to use the flaps they are tapered so they can be tucked into the pockets and there are Velcro pads inside the pockets to hold them that way.  The cargo pockets and back pockets are deep and wide so that my big trucker's wallet and cell phone will sometimes turn horizontal in the pockets while I'm walking, which can be annoying, but I have been thinking all along to have my tailor sew seems to divide the big pockets into smaller compartments so my cell phone or wallet will stay vertical and I'd also be able to keep a knife or torch vertical in their own compartments.  Unfortunately, COVID forced my tailor into retirement and I haven't yet found a replacement.  There's a slot pocket inside the right front pocket which is perfect for a folding knife or a lighter, and there's a hidden pocket attached to the left front pocket inside the pants / shorts that you can't get to through the front pocket.  You have to drop your pants / shorts to access this pocket, but this hidden pocket is a good size for carrying a passport or emergency money when you're traveling.  There are other features such as the belt loops are all reinforced and one on the right has an extra loop just to have a spot to hang your keys from a carabiner and there's only one belt loop about 6 inches (152mm) wide across the back. The only reason I can figure for their doing that was to make it easier to put your belt on.  If you have specific questions about the fire hose pants or shorts let me know and I'll try to answer them.

I once had a service call involving an exterior outlet that supposedly had no power. The customer had plugged their hedge trimmer into the outlet and it did not work. During my investigation, I plugged a tester into the outlet and confirmed there was power available. Then I looked over the extension cord that the hedge trimmer was plugged into. The line conductor had been cut into, most likely by the trimmer    :D

The a couple changes in today’s carry.  The Yeoman replaced the Mountaineer and I replaced the R20 Shiro with the Lefty.

One use was cutting some paracord because I decided to change the Breacher bar wrap to a more subdued wrap.

Day 09

Today's rotated in items:

SurgeUK special Compact, used today to trim down an ibuprofen packet after some teeth pain kicked in

GT Nano, briefly used when going to the trash can

Rotablade Pendulum, used throughout the day as I'm a heavy fidgeter

Heavily modded Boker Kwaiken, just flipped, I actually used the Titanium Escort to open today's takeout

That's another one that I was comparing to when I got this one.  What I love about them are the options for different length and material, and best part of it, no loose bearing balls(which for whatever reason, most counterparts offered by other makers use that)

I've only got one IKBS knife (the Kwaiken I posted today), the first time I opened it I found it was missing a lot of bearings and they were unevenly distributed per side. Quality modding, that

So now that we're 1/3 through the challenge I thought I'd check in with you all:

1) How cumbersome are you finding carrying this level of gear?

2) What item is the most problematic for you to carry and why?

3) Have you found yourself more able to tackle any situations with a higher amount of tools available to you? Or has anything you've changed as a result of this challenge meshed with you unexpectedly?

I would concur on the inevitability.  I recently got my first after long passing.  Well worth it and can see myself potentially getting more of different sizes.

I’m liking it. I did get the 10440 tube and think it is a must, because it is one of the smallest 10180 lights I’ve seen without.

It is definitely a powerful little light; brighter than both my Mateminco and RovyVon,   The tint is cooler than what I normally choose.

I’m not a big fan of proprietary separate chargers, but I do like that it screws onto the tube, which allows storage of a spare battery in a tube attached to the charger and using with spare while battery charging.

Overall, I do not regret trying and do see it getting use, but I think the CSF-04 will remain my favorite for my keychain.

Day 09
I enjoyed a smoke earlier this evening which required the use of my Zippo and the Medico smoker's knife.  No changes in my carry today.  I'm not having any difficulty with the carry so far but it isn't too different than my regular EDC.  Maybe one extra pocket being used and one extra hole in the belt to keep it all above the waist and legal.  Best adaptation so far was connecting the 2 smaller SAKs together on a key ring and adding the long fob to make pulling them out of my pocket easier.
