Day 19

65mm Wenger Esquire Vs VIC Executive 81

It’s interesting that VIC moved the scale tools and keyring on their version, maybe because the blade could close on the keyring on the Esquire :dunno:
If I was to be using it while attached to my keychain I prefer the Wenger approach as the keys would be out of the way

Otherwise they’re pretty identical although have to say the VIC T and T is better

Day 18

Put the Wenger Spot Light to work today.  Had to open a SAK of potatoes, and I helped look for a coin battery my son dropped under the couch.

I swapped out the bulb for a white LED on the Spot Light.  It's a little bit brighter but not enough to replace your normal EDC flashlight.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 19

I don't drink a lot of coffee in the summer.  Generally, just in the morning.  I felt like I needed to make some last night for some reason.  There were some little K-Cups lying around.  Fall blend whatever that is.  Chestnut roast flavor.  Juniper berry, or Santa's aftershave flavor.  I made up the last ones.  I picked one that sounded the least obnoxious and Wengered it open.  It smelled good and tasted just fine.  I took a photo with a Leatherman to keep up my L-man creds.  Best wishes.  G

Day 19 of 30

Today again with Vic Delémont RangerGrip 71. This knife is just good tool to carry. Used scissors to open few bags, and it cutted like charm those open.

@Echotech: agreed on the scale tools!

@AzteCypher:  :like: Hope battery replacement on the Spotlight isn't too difficult!

@ReamerPunch: I like lighters with transparent cases. No need to guess how much fuel remains. :tu:

@IMR4198: some of the flavors you made up aren't too far removed from reality!

@z1913: :like:

@Antti Lammi: I wish I could carry one of those! It's a safe bet they run afoul of local laws.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Looks like you are going to have a blast.  And you brought your fuse.  I looked at some of the K-cups.  I found Hot Buttered Rum, Roasted Chestnut, Fall Blend (whatever that is), and a couple that are pumpkin spice flavored (eech).  I tried a pumpkin pie spice one.  Once was enough.  I don't think I have any more Butter Toffee or whatever I fixed.  That was good.
I really like the Zytel insert Leathermans.  Best wishes.  G

@Antti Lammi: Jealous of your ability to carry that RangerGrip as well! I love 'em too, but while the cutting surface of the blade just barely falls below the 3.5" limit for concealed knives here in Colorado, we unfortunately have a pesky court case defining "blade length" as the distance from the tip to the handle, regardless of cutting surface, and the RangerGrips fall about a centimeter past that line. There are exemptions for hunting and sporting knives that may make it legal anyway, and in theory it's not "concealed" if it's in a belt holster, but it falls well into that gray zone where you're making a big gamble on a cop having reasonable judgment if you get stopped, and facing big legal bills even if you're ultimately vindicated.

@IMR4198: I'll get a Kick out of the festivities, too! :D

@Cypren: 3.5 inches of blade might get you in trouble in Detroit or Lansing, and I'm not one to rock the boat. What really presents a problem throughout Michigan are double-edged fixed blades.

@BPRoberts: Artemus! :rofl:

With the exception of a few municipalities with tighter laws (mostly Denver and some surrounding suburbs), Colorado is actually shockingly reasonable when it comes to knife carry. Open carry of bladed weapons of any kind (yup, even longswords) is permitted except in a few highly specific places like schools and courthouses. Concealed carry of any kind of knife with a blade below 3.5" is legal; the state specifically repealed its longstanding ban on switchblades and other automatic knives in 2017. (A few cities still ban them, but state law preempts their ability to regulate possession in your home or when transporting the knife through their territory.) And there's even a general exemption to the blade length limit if you can show the knife was carried for hunting or sporting purposes and not with the intent to use it as a weapon, though you probably don't want to rely on that unless you're desperate to fund your lawyer's next vacation.

My SwissBucks are shelf queens for fear of damaging the scales since they're hard to come by.  This Taskmate I came to me in really good condition but it does get taken out for a spin every now and then.  Only used for mail call today.

An almost perfect everyday carry SAK for me, same as it’s more recent counterpart the Evo 14
I like the nail cleaner option although it’s always a toss up losing the small blade

Day 20

Banged up Wenger on a cup of tea.  For some reason my tea comes out the same color as my coffee?  Careful up there.  Don't fall in.  Again.
For some reason the cute actress who used to show up every day on the MTO header has gone away.  No more come-ons trying to get me to look at photos of her.  I have forgotten her name now.  Something starting with the letter 'D'?  It's just as well.  We didn't have much of a relationship anyway.  I hope she found something else to interest her.  Knitting.  Button collecting.  Maybe she joined the Red Hats?  Put on a bright red hat and a purple jacket.  Go out with some strangers and drink tea and have some homemade cookies for an hour every week.  Play some bingo.
I saw the little blue car at Ms. Phoenix cottage turned around in the steep driveway last time I went out.  First time I ever saw it parked somewhere else.  I saw her 'real name' on a legal looking letter was it two weeks ago?  I kept that information in my mental short-term storage, but I think it got misfiled into a synaptical burn barrel or something.  Along with the name of my girlfriend who probably is in the Red Hat Club now.  Oh well.  Best wishes.  G

Correct. With some scissors,it's easier to disassemble to sharpen.

I opened a can of tomato puree, and realized after I began, that I should be moving the opener rearward, not like how the Vic opener is used. Live and learn

Been following all y’all off and on.  I am really enjoying the photos and accompanying stories.  Looked at a few different Delemonts, but, haven’t jumped in yet.  Keep up the excellent work.

@Cypren: Colorado seems somewhat more reasonable than Michigan in that regard.

@AzteCypher: I don't blame you for limiting the use of that TaskMate I. It looks to be in superb condition!

@Echotech: :like: My first Wenger (and the only one that's left my possession) was a Traveler.

@z1913: you're fortunate in that regard.

@ReamerPunch: those cookies do look good!

@IMR4198: "synaptical burn barrel" is a good one. Mine often sees sparks from a ferro rod!

@Humayd A R Mahomedy: I often have to think about what direction to go when using a multi's can opener.

@Jeffjeeptj:  :hatsoff: And I'm sure you'll find yourself a Delémont in due time.

@Antti Lammi: I've had to use the openers to open damaged soda cans. That's unlikely to happen again, though.

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Farmer, that's the curse of the Vic vs Wenger can openers   :D
i try to use a SAK or Multitool can opener whenever i can [sorry about the groanworthy pun  :D]

Day 14
More lighter shenanigans, I used the large driver to pry the spark wheel off this bic,and the tweezers to grab the spring,to harvest the spring, and flint remnants [i stuck the flint in my zippo]. I like to keep an assortment of small springs [my wife would say i like to keep an assortment of every type of trash, but that's neither here nor there] and the bit of flint, while being practically worthless still has a few strikes left in it. i don't need to save it,but man, recently [maybe turning 50 has something to do with it  ::)]  i seem to be on a huge repurpose kick,it's fun though

Day 21

I hear the Canadas fly over the house every morning and evening now.  They are honking their 'get out of town while you can' tune.  I checked my mail yestiddy to see if a laughing postal employee had filled my box with detritus intended for my mysterious neighbor.  Ms. Phoenix.  I breathed a sigh of relief.  No mail for mystery woman.
Someone had the tree cutters take down a huge white pine that was hanging over the sad little cottage she might or might not live in.  That was last year.  They chipped most of it but left four or five three foot through cuts right outside the cluttered porch area.  They are still there with weeds growing up around them.  Nobody has ever done any work around the house outside.  Leaves have filled the gutters and backed up a foot or more on the metal roof.  Most of the ladies around here have a tendency to put potted plants around where they live.  Plant a few bulbs at the edge of the drive, or maybe a couple of tomato plants or some peppers.  Nada.  There is stuff covered in black plastic on the porch that has been there for years.  The little blue car that occasionally leaves and comes back are the only signs of an existence.
I understand being a loner.  I don't peep into windows.  If someone sleeps all day in a box with a lid that's okay with me.  Just so long as they don't seep under my front door in a vapor for a midnight snack, I leave them alone.  I do see some bats, but they seem to be the small bug eating type.  Someday I may solve this mystery.  It's time to show a Wenger photo.  Best wishes.  G
