Barry, it would seem that the nasty storm that hit me yesterday will soon be on its way to you...if you're not already in the thick of it.

Great work so far, y'awl! :tu:

Thanks buddy!  We've had some showers so far so I'm hoping it stayed north of us.  It took awhile to clean up after that last one

Carrying the Powerlock daily sure takes me back!  I remember how big my first one felt, and heavy.  The only other multitool.i had ever handled was my Dad's PST.  Mine came with a nylon sheath which was durable enough for me.  Interestingly enough, the one I got from Uncle Sam was actually chrome, not black oxide.  It was never an issue for me because I kept conscious of it and reflection when I had it out.  One thing that definitely hasn't changed is how smoothly the pliers deploy.  These tools are amazingly smooth!  Like my first one, this has the cap crimper.   With the exception of training on Claymores I never had to deal with blasting caps.  A friend of mine is a Combat Engineer currently and says they still issue the Powerlock.  He said, where he works, the MP600 EOD goes to the EOD guys.  I tried to get one from him but no luck
I'm going to have fun seeing all the Power goodness going on this month!
Put mine to work disposing of cardboard tonight.

Good morning folks.
Looks like I'll get the slip, for the new PowerPint, made before I can even get it open.  With the Boss Lady still looking over my shoulder she doesn't see anything unusual about me making my pattern.
Maybe the slip will be done and she won't notice that the contents are black instead of stonewashed.  🤣

Day 04
Showing the leather box sheath in comparison to the nylon for the PowerLock.  Now I remember why I started using the nylon sheath.  The leather sheath is solidly built but it is huge, a full inch taller than the nylon sheath, that does, however, include the 1/4 inch bit adapter that is held in place by an elastic band in the bottom of the sheath.  The sheath rides very high and the PL rattles in it unless you fill up the extra space with sleeves of 1/4 inch bits or another knife or tool.  I tried to wear it this morning and every step resulted in a kidney punch until I took it off.  Putting it on or taking it off is its own problem. It has a belt loop that requires you to undo your belt to lace it on.  The nylon sheaths have the easy on/easy off retention clips which are, I think a big improvement and which I've already mentioned is why I prefer the SOG sheaths to those from Leatherman, Gerber and Victorinox.

I like the nylon SOG sheaths too, Alan.  I've noticed that both Leatherman and Gerber sheaths seem to ride higher than I remember.  I like leather but I appreciate lighter weight.

That's a good looking tool PitCarver!  I've managed to slide some tools under my Chief of Staff's radar, but not for long

Great work, y'awl! :salute: As for sheaths: I like them positioned so that only the top or the loop, and none of the knife/tool, are above my belt.

Day 05
Here's the PowerPint with what I believe was a highly underrated tool, the PowerDuo.  My PowerDuo has lived on my desk since I got it, and I use it all the time because it is handy.  It was discontinued after a very short release because the scales all developed cracks at stress points and SOG decided to end production rather than change the scale material to something harder.  I think this was a mistake.  The tool is essentially a 111mm SAK (One Hand Trekker) with pliers added, and who wouldn't want that?  It even has the toothpick and tweezers. If they had added scissors and or a saw it would have been even better.

Good Saturday morning everyone.
Thought I'd share a bit of progress on the pocket slip.
Got the pattern cut out with the scissors on the PowerPint. They need to be sharpened, but they do the job.

Not necessarily my first choice in leather, for the slip, but I'm using a bit of scrap from an old purse.  It's got a tooled pattern, but it's thin enough to be cut with the PowerPint blade.

It should give me a better idea of what I need to change on the next version.

PC, Really enjoyed seeing your progress on the slip you are making. I like your idea of taking materials that would ordinarily be discarded and turning them into something useful. My grandfather was really good at repurposing items and giving them a second life.

Alan, I don’t know anything about your Power Duo, could you share a picture of the tools load out? The scales on yours look acrylic. If this is the case, you would get cracks in the scale over time. Especially as the acrylic ages.

Day 5

After a stressful last week at work, I am going to take a low key day today. Shipped out a package for a forum friend. Since today is a beautiful clear day, I think I will take advantage of it and go for a walk and tonight do some grilling for dinner.

My son Noah had a Power Duo for a long time.  With the exception of the scales it was a great tool!  He regrets getting rid of it and I regret not being the one who acquired it from him.

Day 5: Playing with the Powerlock saw and awl.  I'm impressed with both!  The saw cuts very nicely and the awl is wicked sharp.

Looking good Barry, I appreciate a good awl and saw in a Multitool. I just wish the file, which I use quite a bit was better in the SOG line up. It is my biggest grip and why I don’t carry them as often as I should.

Slip update.
I have to start over.  Got it almost ready and when I tried to wet mold it and warm it in a low oven, it shrank.  I've got another piece of the purse leather to have another round.  Either that or I go directly to a second version, with thicker leather.

Day 6: The file.  Of everything on this tool, this one is a disappointment.  It will cut soft pine... barely.  It will file softer metal.... barely.  Come on SOG!  This tool is a time proven beast!  You can do better than this!

Good morning all,  happy Sunday.
After the failed attempt to harden the first slip, it's back to the drawing board.   Not much will change with the new pattern as I think is would be fine with some thicker leather.  As for the BO PowerPint, it's still waiting to be released from its package.
I'm getting antsy.  I didn't know why though, the only difference between my old one and new one is the color.  Perhaps it's that the old one stays in my mini tool bag.  IDK.
