As far as I know, all Leatherman tools, with the exception of the Freestyle and Skeletool will continue to have date codes.

Yes... just home for a few minutes, and heading back out again.  I'll upload the .pdf's when I get home and post them then.

I am willing to say that it's footprint will be closer to the ST200 and the Core :-\ So unless you could track down a ST200 leather sheath (good luck :D ) it probably won't fit the older sheath  but hopefully I am wrong and it fits in there like a glove :o :D

I keep forgetting there was a Super Tool 200 that this is an update to I assume..when I think super Tool I think of the original without the weird locking mech.

Was the ST 200 larger than the original ST?

Looking at the pics, all of the tools are straight from the Core, which is a good thing as I believe the hollow ground drivers on the Core have no equal in any MT.

The file, serrated blades, clip point blade and other tools look like the same stock as the Core, so the only differences are the handles and the pliers.

Whilst I am perfectly happy with the Core, it looks to me like they have quite possibly come up with the perfect formula here for a heavy duty tool.

The clumping solution is just inspired.

I used to come here a lot.

Am I the only one who thinks it's just a slightly rehashed Core  Not that there's anything wrong with the Core, but it's hardly new is it :-\

I hate to sound like a party pooper here, but I feel the same way.  I looked at it and thought "It's the Core with no Zytel, and removable wirecutters."  I like the Core, and want one of my own actually, but I don't really see the great big deal either.  Only the wire cutters are innovative, and that only because they are removable and made of better steel.  Other then that, it's a multitool.

I wish they would drop the serrated blade and put scissors like the Surges on it.

I think thats the whole point . Leatherman realised that alot of its customers liked the old style tools which didn't contain plastic and gimmicks and have applied some of their more sensible improvements to an old and tested design .

Dunc

And you, sir, make a good point.  How funny are we.  We sit here, many of us, and bitch and wine about how we like the old school leathermans better then the new ones, and then when LM comes out with an old school design, we sigh about it.  LOL.

Well would you rather have a combo blade and scissors?

This is a purebred Supertool through and through.

I don't really like combo blades or serrated blades but I would take that over having no scissors.

If it's the horrible leather sheaths that they've been making (which I'll guess it is), I'll be dissapointed, but with so many sheathmakers out there, I'm sure people who love the tool can have one made.  Then again, it might fit into the old school ST sheath..

And I like the mini flathead impliment on my ST, I wish they kept it in the updated form :P

Wow. :o Way to go Leatherman. :tu:

Now I have a couple of questions...

If this goes well, do you think they'll take this new/old style to the 4" size as well?

And, how long till that new plier head ends up on a Surge? And would that mean a whole Surge redesign as well?

You could also say the same for the Spirit X but ppl couldn't wait for that to come out ::) Me I am very excited about this :D

The Core is alright but I love the SuperTool and this puts them together :o They kept all the good of both and got rid of what ppl didn't like :tu: Way to go LM :salute:

Just now reading the pdf and LM made a good point if you dull or mess up the wire cutters then you can take them off and sharpen it with the file of the ST300 :o now if they had put the diamond file on there it would have made it easier but the file on the Core ain't half bad :)

Yeah the ST200 was a bit fatter than the ST because of the rolled edges :-\ and I believe that looking at the pics in the pdf for the ST300 that it is as wide as the 200 :) still not bad but the ST was slimmer ;) Also means that the original sheath won't fit :( but the 200's sheath was old school for the first while so if you could possibly find 1 of then I am sure it would fit ;)

[Keanu] Whoa. [/Keanu]

That is just...

I mean.. well, just look at it!

Forget the scissors. Just give me that and a Swisscard, and I'm out the door.

Okay, well.. that ST 300, a Swisscard, a lighter, a firesteel, a compass, some kind of tinder, my iPod, Blackberry, comb, bandana, adjustable wrench, wallet, flashlight... and a few other items...

...and then I am out the door.

Where are my keys?

Micky, get your coat.

I've been out of the multitool world a while, but the supertool 300 is something I can get excited about. Leatherman made improvements where they  were needed and after using the core for the past few years on the farm, I can say that the improvements are spot on. I wouldn't have minded being able to access the knife with goves on a few times. I'm interested to see how the removable wirecutters work since I've been able to cut barbed wire with my core, but I wonder if the attachment system can handle it.

I here some of you guys saying you are dissapointed that they just put the core's components in a new body, but for the most part, the core's tools are about the best out there right now. The knife blades, saw, file and screwdrivers a long and the flathead screwdrivers are effective and the right size. The only thing I wish they would have changed was the awl. It works fine, but something like that on the vic soldier works better.

For heavy duty work, the core was definately on of the best if not the best multitool out there. The new supertool 300 looks like the tool that improves upon the few flaws in the core to make a fantastic tool.

They already did re-release the Sideclip - it's called the Kick! They never did really replace the PST though, which is a bit odd.
