Well I've just spent nearly 2 weeks looking at, playing with, shooting with & talking to people about various air rifles.
SMK's are out the window now, I've gone off them.

Now I'm down to three (maybe 4) choices.
The trouble is, even though I've been playing with & shooting them, I've lost the ability to make a decision. (No I'm not going to play safe & buy them all).

My short list is;
Air Arms TX200
http://www.air-arms.co.uk/products/our-range/spring-powered-rifles/tx200-mk-iii-detail

Weihrauch HW77
http://www.weihrauch-sport.de/seiten/englisch/weitschussluftgewehre/e_weitschussluftgewehre.html

Hatsan 200W
http://www.hatsan.com.tr/en_dominator_200w.html

Possible 4th is HW97 (although I prefer full size barrels).

HELP!  :ahhh

Well with a good scope the TX 200 is very accurate, but it is very heavy. Also it's very easy to repair yourself. The MK3 has a built in moderator but it's not the best, the TX 200 HC has a shorter barrel but can be fitted with a proper moderator.

The trigger is fully adjustable and if you get it set it's a joy to use.

I don't really want to say too much about the HW77 because the last one I had was in the 80's, pretty much the same as the TX as far as accuracy goes and because of the underlever very muzzle heavy.

Personally I like the weight forward as it makes it easy to keep a good sight picture.

I'm with Smashie here, albeit I prefer the weihrauchs to the AA. The key difference between the 77 and the 97 is the 77 comes with iron sights. The K versions loose nothing in terms of accuracy.

I'd drop the Hatsan. They're not bad,but not in the same league.

Did you decide on anything yet mate?

In the TX200?HW97 debate I went with the HW97, but there really isn't anything to choose between them other than what feels right when you pick them up.

Spent a hour or so down at the range this afternoon and plugged away with my HW57.  Still need to really lead in the barrel but it is definitely getting better. :tu:

The TX200 is no more!
I traded it in for a brand new TX200HC in .177 yesterday.  :tu:

Although the TX200 is an excellent rifle, the version I had was the .22 which is a bit limiting on the competition side.
I went for the .177 TX200HC as although it's only a few inches shorter I found it to be easier to handle.

I just got back from the range where I gave it a good warm up, about 200 AA Fields through it.
The biggest job was getting the new scope zeroed in.

My first shots missed completely & hit the target next to it.

I finally ended the day with 5 in a 20mm group, still some work to be done there.

Very nice Dave.  I don't think I've ever handled the HC version, but anything that moves the balance a little further back would have to be a good thing IMO.  Yes, while there certainly are people who shoot .22 in HFT, .177 is definitely the more popular calibre.  :)

I'm very pleased with the HC so far although an unsupported standing shot is taking some getting used to due to the weight. If I take too long figuring out the range & holding an aim on a target I get a slight "wobble".
I might have to start going to the Gym. :ahhh

I certainly caused a stir at the range yesterday.
There were 8 others there who were all shooting various PCP models which were making a quiet "phut" noise. (The rifles, not the shooters).
The TX200HC is slightly louder, I might have to consider some sort of silencer/moderator for it.

Given that it's already got a sound moderator on it I really wouldn't bother.  It's not like the paper and metal targets are going to run away. ;)

I put a moderator on my Brocock, but that had little to do with the noise.  Partly it was because it seems to have improved the handling slightly (the Brocock being very nose light) but mostly so as it would fit in the club rifle racks. :D  My HW57 isn't capable of taking a moderator and that really does make quite a 'crack', especially at the indoor range. :-[

DR,I wouldn't bother too much with fitting a moderator. The great bulk of what your hearing is the piston doing its job, rather than a muzzle crack. If you were down range, you'd hear far less than you do from the hot seat,so to speak.

PCPs on the other hand do have a loud muzzle crack,as do CO2s,but both have fairly silent breach mechanisms

Wow...just re-read this whole thread. Looks like I posted back in August 2013 that I wanted my PAL, and only went for the testing in November 2014. I guess I wasn't in a hurry. Anyways...here are some more photos of my Benjamin .22 Classic to keep this thread going.

And a bonus of one of my archery bows, an APA Black Mamba MX1.

Okay not really an air rifle. It's an Air Shotgun.

It's a Gamo Viper Express. Shoots .22 sized pellets or .22 sized shotgun cartriges. Each cartridge is filled with #9 lead shot, and they are refillable. See pics (stock pic of the gun)

More photos I absolutely love the gun. I can shoot a bird flying within 25 yards. It's a single bead barrel. But tapped for a second which I may add.

I did have to mod the compression arm bushing, the rivet that held the arms together didn't want to hold tight. So I put a nut/bolt on it and cleared out some plastic. This is the brass insert that allows pellets.

Sorry about the photos, gf has the good camera today

That is nice...but would need a PAL to own one up here...it is faster than 500 fps.

Yeah they really weren't as popular as I thought they would be. They don't make them anymore either.

A lot of people complained about the lack of power there have, but it's an air rifle, if they want something more powerful they need upgrade anyways.

It is quite loud too compared to our other guns. Even our 22 with cb caps is about half the noise.

The ammo wasn't cheap either, the shotgun shells brand new were 25 for 7 USD. But once you buy them, you can refill them and a lot of people never figured that out.

Because it was on sale dirt cheap for in the 50 buck area...and also because I always wanted one as a kid being stuck with a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun.

It is a single pump dual ammo Daisy Grizzly youth rifle.
