Everyone, they were taken down because Leatherman didn't want them released yet.  Please respect this and move on.

I saved the picture, however I do not wish to go against Leatherman's wishes.  Besides, I doubt the wait will be too much longer until they're officially revealed. :)

Would anyone say if it was basically a P4 w/a pair of fold out scissors?  If so, awesomeness.

I don't understand why leatherman wants to keep this quiet the new tools are very impressive.

Leatherman doesn't want to release these things the same reason car manufacturers hide their new models.  Until they are ready for release, they are vulnerable to be copied and beaten to the marketplace.  Or, the competition could design something to combat it and release it before the initial tool is released.  Or, some nefarious twits could copy the design in one of those places you don't like and have the knockoffs on the street before the real tool is released.  Or, some of these tools may be prototypes and may not actually be released, in which case you got all excited for nothing.

Corporate espionage is big business, and companies have a right to choose when information about their product is released.  I have no idea what will happen to the gentleman that released the photo initially, but I can tell you that Leatherman is very serious about their business.

Now technically speaking, we are independent of LM, and so if something like this is leaked, we can choose to take advantage of it, or we can respect Leatherman's wish to keep this relatively quiet until such time as they are ready to make it public.  I vote for the latter, especially since Leatherman has been quite good to us- something that happened because we don't routinely thumb our noses at their wishes.

Dare I say they should keep their prototypes hidden better if they're that worried about corporate espionage!

Wait, is that actually the leatherman co's photo gallery?  or someone who works there?  I just realized it was intentional.  They're gaging what they should actually make based on your chatter!  I'd say our chatter, but I didn't see.  Obviously a lot more goes into it then internet buzz, production cost, marketing studies, what your kid nephew likes, but I stand by the notion that if that is an official gallery it was an intentional leak to start this thread.

Hmm, makes me wonder. That could be just the case

I guess we should not be restricted by LM although I understand keeping a good relationship with the company. Better yet, they should be thankful for our comments on protos and ideas. But that's just me  ::)  :D

Unfortunately it's not that easy.

Leatherman could do everything in house, but then they would have to employ a lot more photographers and buy their own printing press, along with all the processing equipment that goes along with that.  That means that the average Micra or Squirt would run somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,300 each.

So, they employ other agencies to keep costs down.  These agencies all sign non disclosure agreements, as I have when looking at new designs and prototypes, not ready for public consumption, and that is supposed to keep things from getting out.  However, in the real world, things don't always stick to the script, and, as I like to say, sh*t happens, like it did in this case.

Not too long ago, a Freestyle was sent out to a photographer for some catalogue shots- this was some time before the Freestyle was officially released, although photos and info (much of which was from our SHOT coverage last year!) was already out there.  The photographer took the photos he was required to, and usually the company doesn't insist on getting the tools back.  The photographer then put the Freestyle on eBay, contrary to the non disclosure agreement and sold the tool.  Guess who probably won't get any more work from Leatherman?  :D

They do take reasonable precautions to protect themselves, and deal with any issues as quickly as possible- like in this case, where that photo has been removed.

From what I saw of the picture I believe they will sell quite a few of these to people like us.

Soon enough we will see them in action.

I'm just hoping we see less plastic and more aluminium and stainless steel. Also if it isn't to much trouble a label saying Assembled in USA or Made in USA of foreign and domestic parts.
