I got this Green Alox Minichamp from Swissbianco at the Blade Show yesterday.  My dilemma is now to decide whether to give the green or silver one to my dad for Father's Day... :ahhh

That is very nice! If that's really 74mm, then I think its actually a 72H (or 72H2 - not sure what the horn differences are between H and H2). I believe the smaller 68.5mm ones were the 52H/H2 models. I don't see much about the 68.5mm versions of these knives, so I'm not 100% sure.

Dennis as you all know is a nice chap and quite often provides me little gifts of parts knives for experimental purposes ;)

This one is in pretty bad shape, cracked scales, bent liners, bent (and bent back) blade tip, poor snap and generally pretty grubby.  The sensible thing to do would be pull it apart.

However I've always fancied trying out a minimal SAK with pliers to see if the lack of weight in the handle end makes them easier to use.  You don't get a much more minimal model than this :)  Plus its all good practise for restorations on rarer SAKs.

I shall see what can be done and then replace my edc Scientist for a bit and let you know how it goes.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

*stretches*

I did a silly thing- I did the flea market. Picked up some cheap dental picks and wire brushes at the disposable tools trailer. Found someone selling a good condition copy of Watchmen for way less that it is worth (I love comics, but somehow had never found a copy of Watchmen that wasn't overpriced when I had the money). And then I found someone with SAKs. He's got about two dozen 91s for $8 each, tells me he'll do two for $14. I like that price, so I pick out a couple of Tinkers that I'll turn into parts piles. Looking over the rest, I've got to put my poker face one when I find his only 84, a Small Climber in very nice condition, scissors are beautiful, grooved corkscrew, no sharpening scars, it even has the old semi-translucent toothpick and the aluminum ended tweezers (which are pretty beat). Scales are a little shabby, but that is what 20+ years of pocket carry will do. I innocently ask what he'll do for three- he says $20. I point out it is smaller than the others. He hems and haws, so I select the best of his several Super Tinkers and make an option.

$25 for the four. I almost hate myself. The Tinks are going to be parted, I want the phillips and I've happily paid $5 each just for that part, spare liners and bushings is even nicer. $10 for the Small Climber is how I do the math in my head. Yep, I hate me.  :D

I'll have a pic of the Small Climber later, after I've cleaned them up a little. :)

All I use at the moment are storage folders that have elastic loops for each knife.
I'll get a photo of one and post it later.
