Today I received my Explorer and Huntsman, both pre owned. Explorer in very good shape, Huntsman almost just as good - except for that there is no snap when closing the cap lifter...

After selling off a few other knives and whatnot, I've managed to get my investment in this one down to right around below the retail price. It's the most I've ever invested in one SAK, but after seeing that last Damascus Pioneer auction on ebay, I feel like I made a wise choice in picking this one up. Weather I sell it or just keep it forever, for the price I paid comparatively to what I see them selling for on ebay, I think I did pretty good  :tu:

I'm actually in shock that I have one.  :o  ...It was a totally random pick up.

I would likely keep the Damascas Pioneer if I managed to actually ever get one.  Unless of course, I could turn around and sell it for a considerable profit to fund other MT/SAK purchases......or pay bills if necessary :P

Congrats!

You mean the original retail price in 2010? What was that, $200? Or if not what retail price? I haven't seen these sold retail new for quite a while.

Yeah that's about right. I think It could be had for anywhere around $130.00 - $200.00 when first released, but I don't know for sure.

I forgot to mention that the box did not come with the knife. It is unused, and was kept in a soft leather slip pouch. The tools have all been cycled open and closed. Other than that, it has only been a shelf queen. I'm hoping the box gets located and sent to me over the holidays.

I don't think it ever was $130. Retail price in the Netherlands was EUR 160 so $130 seems a bit low

Nice find! :tu:

So let's see:

Spartan 2012 limited edition
Huntsman with hardwood scales
Soldier
Rescue tool
Matroschka rambler

And some sharpening stuff :D

I've really gone mad, but I honestly love the Swiss Army knives!

I picked this up for mere change.  what is it??  it looks like a recruit but it doesn't have any scale tools, the bottle opener also doesn't stop at 90 degrees.  the scales are lighter in color and not shiny so Im guessing these are the nylon ones.  these are the first scales like this ive seen.  this SAK has good snap after a clean up and the blades are very sharp.

The economy SAK I have seems just as nice as my other SAKs, but any cheap SAK is a great SAK.

nice find

How do you find the sharpeners?  I've bought a heap of second hand SAKs and they all need sharpening. I've been thinking about getting one of those pocket sharpeners, would they do the trick?

I have a few SAKs were the cap lifter and/or can opener has lost its snap... is it possible to regain it somehow without opening the knife up?

It's a really distinctive and beautiful piece. Feels very solid, I like it a lot!
