I can't believe I haven't shown my Opinel family yet. From top to bottom: a No. 2 in Tomate, a No. 3 in classic beech, a No. 4 in Le Khaki, an olivewood No. 6, a No. 6 in Sage, and another olivewood No. 6. The two at the bottom see regular pocket time.

Just scrolled through this whole thread. I even noticed a post from myself back in 2016.
Opinel knives are really superb slicers.
I have four , purchased  over 6 years ago.   Numbers  6, 7, and 2- 8s . The 8s are Stainless,  one walnut , the other is the garden  pattern.
My favorite is the No.  7 in carbon. Fits my hand perfectly.
Operating the knife is like a ritual.

The marketing  of these knives is  aggressive with different colors,  handle material,  bit drivers,  graphics, styles,    etc.
I mean,  how many does one need?
More than one apparently.

Would someone be so kind as to remind me why the latest lock rings have a indent/dimple included.
I know it caused a discussion a while back, but can't  recall what the fuss was about.

Thanks

Sorry sir, what did you mean by 'latest?
I have a 6, 8 and Slim, a few years old, time flys.
I don't see any dimple or indentation on any of the rings...

Did a little research to refresh my memory.
Around 2017 the locking mechanism was changed.
The inner ring,  under the locking ring has a groove at the bottom.  A cut out groove.
The groove mates with an indentation on the outer locking ring.
The blade can be locked by turning the lock ring only one way now.  Only One Direction , as opposed to either way in previous years.

The complaints by some , were regarding the problem of the blade not  being adequately secured in open position.
The blade was easy to push closed when supposedly locked.
A safety issue.
Maybe a rare occurrence , or corrected by now?

Now, I don't have a knife with the 2017 change,  but going through the thread I noticed the indentation.
Then  I remembered the past controversy.

If I left anything out or made any mistakes in understanding the new locking system ( post 2017) please comment.

Thanks
