Wow, that looks like it could be really slick. The folks over at Leatherman are definitely branching out with more specialized tools. I'll have to keep an eye out for more info.

Good catch, Metro!  :tu:

Definitely cool. I am excited for this. I really use scissors alot on my MTs, more than the pliers even, so this really is an appealing concept. However, I would prefer to see more large MT's with OHO scissors but I always get excited for new multis, regardless.  Lol

Interesting.... it's almost as if someone has been openly suggesting a shear based tool very loudly on a popular forum site for some time now....

What would a ring cutter on an MT look like?

A ring cutter, from what I gathered, is a specialized cutting/nippers for cutting rings off fingers. Say it gets caught in a car door and needed to be taken off, or if the finger has swollen from a break or injury. This is why I am frightened to even consider a Titanium wedding ring because they are notoriously hard to cut.

It's a little tough to discern the mechanism but here's an example of a dedicated emergency ring cutter.

EDIT: Just looked at the image again, but maybe the bottom 'finger' of the tool slips under the ring while the mini pizza cutter deal is a diamond wheel saw that is turned by hand so to only cut the ring?

Go for a damascus ring then, with a glass breaker built in!  You gotta have some kind of tool in it after all.  :D

Haha. Of course but I've settled on the Kinetk gear ring.

Back in topic, I will be curious to see what they use as a ring cutter mechanism.

A pair of trauma shears would bump the Crosscut off the top of the list for scissors in MT land. My brother was an EMT for a while, and the shears he had would cut a penny in half. If the Raptor can manage that, then it will find a place in the world.

This is the first new MT I've heard of in a while that I'm kind of excited about.

I worked as a Firefighter / EMT for a while and have some military combat experience, including emergency war surgery. I'm eagerly waiting for the Raptor. The (standard) ring cutter will work on titanium rings, and it doesn't actually take that much longer than a stainless or gold ring. I love the idea of trauma shears on a multi-tool. The commercial shears (like the ones sold at surplus stores and medical supply houses) will cut a penny, sure, but they're notorious for deforming. Either the plastic handles break, or the blades bind. Hopefully Leatherman uses the right kind of shears.
This is gonna hurt...

That does sound pretty sweet.

On the ring note, I do wear a titanium wedding band, and I have considered switching but it's just so darn tough, you can't see any dings on it and it's been through hell.  I am terrified of having to have it cut off though, goodbye finger.

I wear a tungsten carbide ring on my right hand.  I don't think anything short of a diamond blade will cut it.

By ring cutter, do they mean the shears will be able to slice through rings, or that there will be a specific tool for this?

The description lists shears and ring cutter separately, so I would guess that there will be a specific tool for cutting rings.
