I don't know the amount of changes  but I am pretty sure it is to do with beefing the plier head up each time :o The current plier head is a manly beast for sure :D

5 basic versions of Plier head.
Roughly 3 finishes (SS, BO, Road/Tour finish)
With and without Cap Crimper.
Now: different variations of construction between even the same exact tool between model years.
And maybe I missed variants too.

Between the two of you you got it

5 different plier head changes and the  D-shaped hole cut into the plier bracket which accepts a corkscrew

I'll leave it to the dancing banana man to come up with the next question, he got more of the answer (and I don't actually have another question ready)  :pok:

OK then  :tu:

Which made-in-Japan Leatherman PST versions had "hollow" (ie staked) rivets ?
(helpful hint - don't rely on the info in the PST Chronology thread, it's wrong on this particular aspect)

Since no one else is having a shot at this here goes.

I have four basic Japan made hollow riveted PST's in my collection:

1-Pocket Survival tool - number 3 in the  LMPSTCP thread
2-US Pat large lanyard attachment, Japan Leatherman knife tang stamp
3-US Pat small lanyard attachment, Leatherman only knife tang stamp. I have two of these. The only difference is the left, right can opener so dont really consider them seperate variations.
4-US Reg'D TM - number 5 in the LMPSTCP thread.

     Locks, rolled handle edges, sheepfoot serrated knife blade, USA to TOOL on the plier head. there seems to be some cross over on the plier head stamps      :D
