Day 26
Wanted to replace a light bulb today and the new LED replacement made a high frequency noise that was just too annoying  ::)

Used the Spirits can opener to carefully pop open the bulb...

(Image removed from quote.)

This loosely wound coil should be the culprit...

(Image removed from quote.)

A bit of hot-glue should stop it from vibrating...

(Image removed from quote.)

I couldn't use the Spirit to hold up the bulb for soldering, so a different tool was used...

(Image removed from quote.)

The Swisscard magnifier helped to check the soldering...

(Image removed from quote.)

Made in Germany?! Hmmm....

(Image removed from quote.)

The result was a less noisy bulb, but still buzzing happy  :-\ I'll have to save this one for the shed or else.

Great work! Sorry it still didn’t shut up

Day 26
The only use for the Yeoman today was the usual opening of a protein shake and then opening a bag of dog dental chews.

The Spirit had some action with putting the handle back on the previous leaking faucet that the Spirit fixed earlier in the month.  Originally I hadn’t put the handle on for easier monitoring for leak, then it wasn’t a priority because cold water isn’t used much in the kitchen.  Now the below freezing temps mean we may need to drip the water to prevent pipes from freezing, so the handle is more convenient.

Stitcthy, that's the sad story of many led 'replacement' bulbs, I renovated my place back in 2013 and many area switched to led strips and bulbs.  Eventually, I negotiated with the suppliers about those led bulbs and switch them all back to incan bulbs.  The exact same reason you have, the buzzing.  It's not too obvious during the day when there's noise and people are moving about.  But the low humming and buzzing of dozens of them(mainly the cooling fan, which could get worse if it is aged or dust gets in) drove me crazy each night when it was quiet.  The led strips have a 40-50% failure rate in the following years, and they could be expensive to replace sometimes.

That's a good pointer.   In your experience, at what temperature you would need to keep it dripping even with people living inside the house?  I used to think frozen pipes are more likely if they are not used daily.

It really depends on a few factors.  Because where we live the water pipes aren’t that deep they tend to freeze quicker/easier than other places I have lived.  It also depends on whether it has been and stayed cold for a couple days.  If it is warmer during the day and just drops below freezing at night, then it usually isn’t a concern.  If it stays at or below freezing for extended periods of time then they could freeze after just 1-2 hours of non-use.

Buffs are nice.  I was recently looking at possibly getting a wool or thermal one for colder weather seeing that my cold weather neck gaiter disappeared.  I saw that they now make hinged balaclavas and ordered one of those.

Day 27

For whatever reason Imgur is acting up right now and can't upload any photo, so gonna directly upload onto forum for now.  Used the Mountaineer mainly for all the food chores today.  It's interesting despite how convenient is the a modern folder, I still resort to using my SAK first and foremost.  It's probably a habitual thing--just like even I now carry two dedicated flashlights, sometimes I still grab and phone and use the led onboard for lighting.
That looks delicious:drool:

Sorry your fix didn’t work.

You really do use your magnifier, maybe you do need to give the Yeoman another try.

I think that typical freeze points are where the main pipe enters the house and/or go thru inner walls (if pulled under floors in the old fashion way). For the 1st type of a prob. there are heating elements that go into the pipe and can be plugged in when needed (we have one and it gets plugged in if temperature stays below -25 celsius for longer times. Also a guick warming, say 10 or more decrees in a day has a tendency 'to drive the cold indoors' as old folks say).
If indoor pipes are under floors without plum work letting some of faucets drip might be the only solution. Of cource, should there be no snow  everything freezes easier.

I have not seen any with fans in it recently. I've tried to avoid them from the beginning.
For the normal replacements, all cheeper ones I've bought are fine  :dunno:
