I immediately decided I preferred the thicker scales of the LT over the slim, although I’m very happy with the slim having said that, so set out to get a 112LT, harder than I thought it’d be unfortunately

I know slim scales carry nicely, but I really prefer the thicker scales of the traditional 112 & 110 models. And the Benchmade Griptilian, if your tastes run to the modern. The handle is half the knife: don't skimp!   :D

Day 24
I remember someone suggesting that the Rangers might be being babied (not the comis type of babying) during this challenge.  So to prove otherwise I thought I’d see how it did with battening so pieces of wood.

I immediately decided I preferred the thicker scales of the LT over the slim, although I’m very happy with the slim having said that, so set out to get a 112LT, harder than I thought it’d be unfortunately

Eventually tracked one down from a local supplier, ordered it and then promptly had my money refunded, damn it, they’d run out

Had another look around yesterday and hopefully have found a place in Tasmania so have ordered it. Fingers crossed they’re not out of stock too :dunno:

I know what you are experiencing.

The Slim Select are very affordable and carry well with pocket clip and weight is minimal.  I have EDC a Red SS for almost 4 years.

The Original 112 design is sized for carry, rides in back jean pocket, horizontally, or on belt in the sheath.  My Blue wood Drop point gets that duty most often.

If weight is a concern along form and function my 112LT gets the call.  If hiking or exploring the the SlimSelect goes in the bag for backup.

Do you have a US forwarding service?  Uncertain of international shipping, just saying I would be happy to assist locating a 112LT.  I have seen them appear on eBay frequently. Some even new.

PM me if you prefer!😜👍

Or, I could deliver personally🤪

Day 24:

Weed Whacker+fuel with ethanol=not good.  We normally go to a small gas station about 3 miles from here as they are the only one with ethanol-free fuel available. Past two times we got it from the Shell not 5 minutes from here, and what happened was expected.

My grandmother told me her Stihl FS-40 didn't start and changing the spark plug, air filter, and fuel filter was overdue.  Pulled the spark plug, covered in carbon deposits. Got the 800 grit sandpaper out, and that cleaned it up. Ran for once, but still stalled. I got to reading the manual, and it said that if ethanol-laced fuel had been used--up the idle speed .So I did. I used my SwissTool XC as the 4-in-1 (currently only screwdriver in the relatively new automotive kit I built) had the insert/nut driver that held the bit in fall out.  Need to add a set of dedicated screwdrivers to that kit.   After that, it ran fine.   I'll probably pick up the service kit and change all that stuff out next week.  I honestly don't bother taking stuff to the dealer anymore--there is one service tech that overtightens EVERYTHING; and usually creating problems as a result (I can't get the chain cover off my 011AV to tighten the chain; and I think the idle speed screw was slightly cammed out).

Tools used:

S&K 3/8 Ratchet
Indestro 3/8 Breaker Bar
S&K Spark Plug Socket
Task Force Slip Joint Pliers (one of the few tools from my very first toolkit that I still use)
Channellock 4-in-1 Screwdriver
Stihl T27 driver and spark plug wrench--the multitool for weed whackers and modern saws.
Victorinox SwissTool Spirit XC Phillips

No 112 use today.

Day 25

Originally, I was planning to familiarize myself with the new 112 Sport thru out the challenge, but I am so used to carrying the OG 112 that it never did leave my pocket.  Finally, just towards the end of the challenge, I remembered to bring out the Sport for a spin.

Day 25 of 30

Quite Sunday morning, rain is drizzling and cooler air temps a good morning to stay indoors.

Some knife care occurred, polish bolsters on two Case knives, steel applied to the LT’s blade as it was knocked up by nail, when doing some     feathering on a stick in the dark prepping for a fire last night at daughter’s. (Phone left in truck)

Coffee and Rangers enjoyment😁

Great uses and photos, everyone! :tu:

Day 25

Just the usual repetitive use today, so the 112 hung around with a windmill. And the smurfing rain arrived just before I made this post...

No kidding.  And he's crazy fast now! :ahhh I bought some bitter apple to spray on some things he's been gnawing on.  I sprayed some on my finger to test it.  He sniffed, licked it, made a funny face, then chewed my finger.

Never did find a solution to deter chewing or gnawing items other than dog toys/treats.

Other than a crate and constant supervision. Eventually they may outgrow when they are comfortable in their world.   Some chewing is boredom other times it can be nerves.

Day 25: light cutting use only.

My grandmother cleaned out her closet, and found a WWII-era Kabar that I'd found in an old barn as a kid, and she'd kept for me.  I probably removed/damaged the tang stamp with poor cleaning/restoration methods around age 13 (but I'm hoping it may have been one of the ones that was pommel-marked). I want to say it was a PAL.

It needs a new guard and leather. I think it can clean up into a nice user.
