And, I truly enjoy and feel blessed to be part of this challenge honoring DEAN!

I found this site out of interest in MultiTools wanting more info from like minded individuals, yet Robert who was on another site with his examples also was here, inspired my interest and revised my interest in the pocket carries of my youth and into the current.

I do enjoy AWL the pictures, the stories of each of your selections.  Just need to be happy with the pictures and not having to picked everyone I like.

I am honored to share my habit… :hatsoff:

I spared you all an action shot, but be advised that the 301’s main clip blade makes a handy toothpick…

Now we're in to the back end of the month, I'll be carrying more of my preferred trads.  This Case small Texas Jack is absolutely one of my favourites.  In the horror game of "if you could only keep one..." this would be a contender.   8)

Thanks, Steve! It's just one fish in a sea full of nice knives.
Sweet! I assume it's Solingen? And how would you say it compared to the Sod Buster Jr?

Day 16

Hopefully this one is dissimilar enough to an SAK that it doesn't arouse Steve's ire! It's marked only "Solingen Germany," so I have no idea who manufactured it. The pile side liner is lifting, and the corkscrew wiggles when the master blade is partially open, so I don't use this one. If I ever decide to try my hand at knife repair, this one will be used to learn the ropes.

That certainly passes muster as far as I'm concerned.   :like:

:like:  I recall the first time I saw the Sodbuster, I didn't think much of it. After using one for a 30-day challenge, I became a big fan.

Actually....after handling one and using it for a day...I became a big fan.   :D

Day 17:

Another Lambsfoot from A. Wright & Son. This one, fresh out of the box, got used to pull a splinter out of my wrist.

I really like this knife; I get the sense it will see some pocket time. A few gripes: the edge is so-so and needs some work, and it is a bear to open. I think it is the geometry, not necessarily the spring tension/strength. Hope fully it breaks in a bit. Regardless, I really like it!  :tu:

That all sounds about on par for A.Wright knives.  I really appreciate the spring that wants to be a beartrap, but it's not for everyone.  Glad you're liking it though. :)

But that wavy edge though

Yes..... I think I have a problem here......

So, see what you guys think.... I suspect that the sharpening choil is offset into the ricasso a tad too far. And is a bit too small.

As a result a crazy, wavy recurve has developed. I noticed this more as I was sharpening it. (It is now hair-cutting sharp, despite the wonky look.)

I think what I need to do is grind in a better choil and then grind the heel of the edge in a bit. I fear that if I don't get some sort of fix in, I'll just end up exacerbating the issue further with repeated sharpenings.

Am I off base here?  Do I just try to be more careful when sharpening?

I've had some recurves in edges before and can generally ignore them. But my sense here is that the geometry is set up to fail......

The blue line is obviously an exaggeration, but is there to indicate the extent of the recurve.   :-\

 :iagree:

I would just work the middle part, to the same angle than the rest, so that you don't loose any material on the edge itself. If that makes sense  :salute:
