DAY 10  My sapphire Spartan with Firefly.  The problem should be obvious: the tip broke off the Firefly, leaving it impossible to remove from the scale by normal means.  Another SAK came to the rescue, but I don't normally carry two.  I've thought about sculpting a drop of JB Weld to make a new end to grab.  Good idea?

(Image removed from quote.)
I too think sculpting the JB weld probably is a pretty viable solution, especially if they don't cure too quickly so you could work it into a shape that you want.

And if you have spare toothpicks, maybe slicing the tip off another one and superglue it onto the firefly may work too?

I had the same issue and epoxied a bit of plastic on it and filed to shape. Sculpting the JBW would be good too. Post pics of how it goes.

Did it get the job done?

Yes, the imco lit the smoker, and the smoker mostly kept the bees from bothering me while I worked.

and is that a Pelican M6 from another picture you posted?

If you are referencing the well worn silver pelican in some of my posts, that is a 2350, a single AA.  I really enjoy the 2350, I have carried it for 5 years solid, and more recently alternating  other flashlights.  I also have 4 or 5 m6s, and like those too.

Day 10

Someone mentioned a leatherman saw throwing better sparks for them. So I figured I'd play with it today and see. It seems to work well enough but I don't think it gave any better sparks than my vic saw. By far my favorite is an opinel. Closed they're the safest option.

How do you like the Reylight?  I discovered his light sometime last year, and all the tints are some of the best I have seen.  Quite enjoy his practical spacing and setting of the lights.

i've really been enjoying Reylights and getting quite hooked on them. Rey is a really nice guy and his lights are  great quality with beautiful emitters, nice solid tail switches, sapphire lens and I'm a big fan of the programming.

Definitely put up those beam shots!

OK will do!  :salute:

As a fellow flashlight enthusiast, I'm always happy to see a beam shot as a comparison.  And I absolutely adore the 519a leds, especially the 5700 dedomed.  It has absolutely no tint shift even when when it is dim and a nice hint of rosiness in it to make it warm and good to look at. (sorry for the detour, can't resist this one)

me too those 519a are absolutely brilliant! looks like there's some interest in the beam shots so I'll try to do some proper ones out on the back 40 tonight when it's really dark. Stay tuned!   :hatsoff:

Day 10

I pulled some fungus off a dead tree with the intent of using it as tinder.  I had plenty of spark with my Firefly but it wasn't taking it.  I thought it was either too windy or the fungus was still damp from yesterday's storms.  I added some dryer lint but still no fire.  I finally wrapped everything in a napkin, and then used some chunks of bark to block the spark from the wind.  After several tries I finally got it to light.  I felt like I had plenty of spark but the wind definitely didn't help any.  I'm going to try again with the Firefly when there's no wind to see if that was the issue.

Roxon Flash and Milwaukee fastback. I like the fastback, but it's as big as a multi-tool with a tenth of the utility. I'll dig out my Gerber EAB, at least that one is tiny.

That's a cool test, and the delicate size of the flrefly probably does make it even more challenging that it is.  I wonder will a larger ferro rod or even one with magnesium block will make a big difference in this damp environment.

I think I might have seen it somewhere, besides the gas flame, does it also have a "match" you can lit installed inside the body?

Thanks to this, it looks so much like a mini M6 and have no idea this exist.  Cool!
I have fond memories with the PM6, that's one rugged flashlight that's almost unbreakable and great for building hotrod led light (way back when led was just starting to become popular).

Nice!  Sometimes in broad daylight it maybe hard to tell whether the charred cloth was lit, and don't asked me how I know...

I still have more fungus left so I'm going to try with the Nanostriker and a mag block/ferro rod to see if that helps.  The fungus is pretty thick though so I'm going to tear it into thinner pieces and try with the Firefly again.

Day 11

I'll be using my trusty Zippo this weekend.  I think I've had it for nigh on 25yrs.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Yes, it has the permanent  match or whatever it is called.  Son said it is a $20 Amazon lighter.

Cool!  My 2350 is rugged, I don't know how many times I have dropped it on concrete, and it still works great.  It was black anodized,  now silver from  pocket wear, with keys, multitools,  change, etc.
I have hot Roddenberry two or three m6's, one even has a Malkoff drop in unit.  Not done with them all, yet.  Lots of fun.

🔥DAY 11🔥

it was too cloudy and rainy today for trying to start a fire with the magnifying glass so just carried the Dunhill rollagas, Reylight Rook and FX. used the lighter to fire up some incense but no action shots.

it's been pretty rainy and misty here so it's hard to get a proper beam shot but tried my best. Here's the beam shot for the Reylight Rook with triple 519a 4000K emitters on turbo. forgot to take a "before" shot but it was basically pitch dark- this little light is such a nice flood and thrower in one.
