I think Bell really loves the PX awlso :D
:dd:

Had my Deluxe Tinker along today
:like:

I don't smoke anymore and have some Zippos laying around.
I never visited Afghanistan, but I was around Iraq.

The red thing is an old Wen electric pencil. Since there is bound to be one person out there who will ask, it is used to scribe your name/number/ID into your possessions.
One of them, or something very similar, was used to mark my old black Tinker.

Aluminum framed S&W 43C .22 with Federal Punch ammo.
.22 handguns are great fun to shoot! :tu:

Another early start tomorrow (up at 3am) so I'll bid you awl a good night  :salute:
Hope you're able to get some rest. An early reveille can be brutal! :ahhh
Minis are great cars.
:like: I will want a Mini until my dying day. Till then, I have a few Corgi models. :D

Another great day, y'awl! :2tu:

Day 28

I'm still trying to figure out what I'll carry for day 30. This Fiskars X-7 would technically work, but I might get some askance looks if I go out in public carrying it.

Day 28

Spent the day traveling to Michigan to help with clearing my mom’s home, same that I grew up in until moved onto college at 17.

Found two potential pencil boxes, an item I used every year through elementary, provided by my dedicated Grandpa.

My new this year fifth grader was offered her choice, her reply “no allowed, I would get in trouble!”  WOW🤪
So potential storage for my stuff👍

Then then brought home this fella,

Day 27 (makeup)

I'm gonna go really out there with my "everyone loves it, I hate it" and say the original PST. It was, by far, the least enjoyable challenge I've ever done. I get that there weren't really any other options of PBMTs at the time, but it's not even a very good set of pliers. I wrote about it here, but the long and short of it is that it's a lousy set of pliers attached to a lousy multitool.

Nearing the end now.
I've had knives since I was a kid, and that was a long time ago.  The one type of knife that didn't interest me, for a lot of years, were Swiss Army knives.  I had one, a Super Timekee that my wife bought years ago.  I don't know what happened but I started picking some up, off of the eBay.  Now,  I can't think of not having one nearby.
My favorite pattern, aside from the MiniChamp has to be the Deluxe Tinker.

This building block robot that I got not too awful long ago reminds me of the robots that I built when I first got a Lego set, though definitely not as sophisticated.

I had that same feeling last week when my oldest and youngest granddaughters and I were building castles and houses with some of my old Legos that have gone down from me to my daughters and finally to my granddaughters.

Day 29

Something I have come to appreciate as an adult:
A good sponge.

Something that brings back childhood memories:
This folding scissor. My very first edc tool that I can remember was a tiny version of this. I was just a kid, and had a fanny pack, because the man-purse shoulder bag had not been invented yet. I had a pen, the scissors, a notepad, a stamp of a fox playing football, my laser pointer, a calculator, gum, and a pair of shoelaces. Those were the days. :dd:

Day 29

My first penknife was a Victorinox when I was a kid. Not this exact one, but very similar.

I bought my first Opinel on a school trip to France, probably 1992, again, not the one pictured.

The PST, 1995 in both handles, is my first multitool, still with me after all these years.

Day 29

Hard to believe the MTO Anniversary Challenge is about over.  It feels like a lifetime already.  How about some old stuff today?  Some of you have never seen a military annual/facebook.  This one is from the giant camp at what was Fort Bragg.
The little Bakelite box in the center is a Kodak Baby Brownie Special from about the same time.  My Dad took a Brownie box camera overseas with him.  I asked him what he did with it.  He said he smashed it.  Too much trouble to carry.  The one in the photo took all our family pix for years.  It was one item in the house that was VERBOTEN to all children.  No touch.
The knife is an old Boker congress that my uncle gave me.  Thanks to all the members who took part in the little mini-challenges.  Hopefully they provided some variety, and an opportunity to try something different from the usual challenge fare.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Day 29: something that I appreciate as an adult is a simple AAA flashlight. When I was 15-20 years old, I always wanted those tacticool flashlights that are super high power and used expensive CR123 Lithium batteries or even C cell batteries. They were super bulky and therefore were left at home sometimes when I needed them. Since my twenties I shifted towards a simple AAA flashlight that goes in my pocket as soon as I put my pants on in the morning. Not as powerful and cool looking, but always there when I need it.
[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The second item I carry today is a Wenger Traveler. This model was the first SAK that I got when I was a kid. I still have my original one, but that stays in the box as I don't want to lose it. Recently bought some Travelers to carry occasionally when I feel nostalgic  ;)

As promised a closer look at my Herbert Robinson slimline trapper, I really rate this knife, it's light and thin, but works so well....the closest I have found to this is the rough rider tooth pick....

Day 29.

I think I understood the assignment :salute:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My FIRST Multitool, an award for sales achievement of supply sales which was part of my duties as a COMPUTER SERVICE ENGINEER.   I carried for many years following, maybe oversharpening the blade a tad🤪

The GREEN  .5mm pencil (on the right), was given to me in 1969 by my Uncle George, a pilot, as he was impressed in my studies of engineering drawing.

The utensils on the left are my first mechanical pencil (gray) in high school as disliked the wood ones feel in my sweaty hands.  The Big Red Parker is like the orange one I had as well. The oversized barrel felt good in my hand.

And due to its size I found I enjoyed writing and learned through college my ability to express my answers via words in essay tests aided me will in better grades, then later into tech writing, and documenting procedures which led me into promotions and better pay and a better life for my family.

The checkerboard is from my child hood. Found this weekend while clearing my mom’s house.  But this board has held many a checker game with my grandfather. He forced me to think thru moves and to suffer consequences for bad and good moves.

This boad will see more action as my grandkids love to. Challenge me to checkers and this board will be better than the cardboard red/black one or the fancy glass ones I currently have.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 29

I mentioned this in an earlier post, but I love slip joint knives for the nostalgia they evoke of knives I used in my childhood.  You can say that I also appreciate the simplicity of these knives as an adult too.  I wish I still had one of my old pocket knives, but I was a typical boy and broke or lost almost everything I owned.   Here's a slip joint from my collection that I don't think I have ever posted.

Day 29

My first SAK, a Pocket Pal, from when I was 10 or 11 years old. Brings back all kinds of childhood memories and one of the knives that started me down this path. I still remember picking it out in the case when I was visiting my grandmother and all the memories of that time in my life.

I have to play catch up today as I couldn't get to my computer this weekend.

Day 27

Not everybody likes/loves SAK-A-Likes but I've taken a liking to a lot of them.  I know they are not the same quality as Victorinox but for a lot of us, this was our first exposure to multi-tools.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Sweet old camera! I miss my Rollei 35T. Before eBay forced PayPal on everyone, I was so antsy to get that camera that I overnighted the money order. :D

Day 29

I loved Legos as a kid, and still do today. Small tools, on the other hand, were something I came to appreciate much later (like after I left active duty). Here are a Leatherman Mini Tool and some Lego go-karts.

Of course, I could do without the silly prices discontinued Lego sets and multis command on the secondary market. :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh
