Day 27

Love, hate, hold my beer.  I am CARRYING an old Imperial multi tool.  I thought it was something special when I was given it by my Uncle Rob.  Maybe I was 8 or so.  Not many people love the old Imperials and other cheap knives.  Trying to use the tools for any big task would likely be a fail.  The single sheep's foot blade works just fine.  Best wishes.  G

DAY 27  Vic AutoTool.  This thing rode in a car so long I forgot I had it.  It's not really useful, but it looks  impressive in a display case.

Day 27

Something I like that that nobody else does - this weird Eddie Bauer multitool.  Really, any weird multitool.

For the "Hold My Beer" tool, I struggled to think a something.  I'm going with my Curl mod because I thought it would be easy (and I'm sure it was easy for experienced modders), but I had an embarrassingly difficult time with the pliers head.  My selection of tools might even qualify for "Something I love, but no one else does".  I still need to replace that can opener with something useful.

Powernoodle Day 27

This knife, the SOG Prohen, is one of my favorites, but I think I'm about it's only fan.  It's a phenomenal knife for the money.

I'll join you in saying that very few people have caught on to the SOG Prohen XR.  It is reminiscent of the old school Cold Steel G10 knives - somewhat beefy in its persona, but thin in the pocket and also very reasonably priced at $60 for D2 steel.

my Curl mod

That's an awesome mod, sir.

Day 27 Post

Love/hate.  Someone who “loved” me gave me this knife.  I have never carried or used it. Obviously in pristine condition.   I must dislike it.  Hate may be too strong.

Looks good to me, Jeff.  I would carry it.  It has been ages since I had a Sharp Finger, or whatever they call these things.  Mine turned black in quick order.  Very good design.  Good to see some members posting pix this morning.  Must have been hard to find someone to hold their beer first.  Best wishes.  G
 :dunno:
One of my hunting pals had one of the ugliest knives I have ever seen.  About the same vintage as my Sharp Finger.  He had a Schrade Deerslayer.  It was a good usable knife, but big time homely.  Some of you might have to look this one up.  G

Day 27 - Tools I luv/like yet apparently not the rest of the world.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

A CRKT Squid, I was an early adopter, found this hanging in the knife aisle at Cabela’s maybe 10 years ago.

The GI Jack - a simple cut down Scout. Solid and sharp. Maybe its biggest detractor is the Marbles name.

This SOG Multitool, forget the name.  Small package. Pliers is most practical, the other implements are so so. Came in a tin at Christmas, at Lowe’s, actually wanted the knife, but kept this 😎

My favorite of the 4, an Ember!  A simple little modern pocket knife that is Kershaw made with the SPEEDSAFE feature.

First off, as part of the anything goes challenge, I got my patch order yesterday afternoon.  I'm quite sure I should have read the fine print on the sizes of the embroidered patches.  These are huge.  I thought I had a spot for the Swiss Army Knights patch on my EDC bag, but nope, I'll have to get out my older one and see if it'll fit.   My yellow comp stockman was so quick in opening the envelope a photo was impossible.

Part two of today's love/hate challenge has to be one of my Mini Pocket Ulus.  This is the most common version with a friction folding feature.  It's one that I still drop into my pocket from time to time.

DAY 27

As is so often the case - No battle plan survives first contact (choose your version thereof)

I took my least used (but most expensive) MT to work today, as I can mostly get away with it

However, the Gods conspired against me and I was once again sent to our custody suite (which is inside a jail)

This meant no uses because no sharps are allowed, lest the incarcerated miscreants harm themselves (or others)
So I bought the GOAT back home where it was used to remove a GID coin from a recalcitrant trolley  :twak:

I really wanted to love this MT but TBH, it doesn't work for me and I'm quite ashamed that I spent that much on it  :-[
Still, it got the coin back for Mrs Surge  :pok: (so that's £270 well spent )

There was a time when I was rewarded with a real coin but alas, no more  ::)

Cool,   :like:

My first actual experience with a person handling a  ULU, was my neighbors, a visiting professor employed by NOAA, and his wife, a native Alaskan Eskimo, also an adjunct professor of Native American studies.

They hosted a cook out, and I lent them my grill.
She had bought a variety of cuts of beef, buffalo and salmon for the cook out.

I was amazed by her skill with the ULU, trimming meat  and making sirloins and chuck roast into fillets size portions in fluid strokes.  Same with the buffalo roast to large cubes for stew and how quickly each reduces a pile of vegies to bite size pieces.
The same after smoking the salmon, fluid strokes, slicing a fillet to 8 strips and move from the cutting board to serving tray.

My cutting board (which I made) has had no respect for me since🤪

In later conversations she shared with  how  she had  been taught by her mom and aunts to process whale, seals and other community catches from the Bearing Sea.

Most interesting neighbors ever!!!   2 very short years, then Antarctic for more fun as they described their life.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 27: I had this embarrassing "hold my beer" situation only once. We were visiting friends and the baby chair needed to be adjusted. It's the same one we've got, so I thought "hold my beer, I've got a set of hex keys in my EDC pack". Well, this damn chair requires two 4mm hex keys because you need to hold the counter screw in order to tighten it. It's basically a 15" long Chicago screw that connects the two side panels. So my set of hex keys that I am pretty proud of (came in handy in many situations!) was completely useless  :twak:

Day 27.

A Chinese branded version of some German brand knife. (Don't remember the brand, and don't understand the Chinese on it). Really handy, really sharp blade, and I've used it some - but that not many seem to use it.

Day27
I couldn’t really think of something I love and everyone else hates or vice versa.
So I thought I would go with something that it seems people either love or hate - the SAK magnifying glass.  I thought I’d picture my much loved mountain yeoman, which also has the SAK file which doesn’t seem to have much love either.

As far as the “Hold my beer”, it was actually a soda.  All happy to get a friend a cool flavored soda that had a pop top.  I reach into my pocket to get out my SAK, only to realize that I had a classic instead of the rambler I thought I had.

Challange: tool I love that most people hate

Gator Grip universal sockets, the ones with the spring loaded pin that 'fit anything'...just not well.
I keep this one on my workbench for when I need to quickly hand snug bolts or make tool adjustments.
(Tables, fences, guards, etc.)

I used to be a lot of things, and someday will again.

Day 27

In researching negative displays, I noticed that apparently many people hate them with uncommon fervor.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

To be fair, a positive display is more legible. But my experience has been that the lighting must be very dim for them to have a significant advantage. Unless I'll be spending a lot of time under dim light (which seems unlikely) or.my eyesight starts failing, every digital watch I purchase from this point forward will have a negative display.

  DAY 27

I guess this post is more love than hate  :dunno:

i thoroughly enjoy carrying my red FX but I realized I don't often use the saw in most of my day to day activities so thought it might be cool to pick up a pioneer x in red it arrived yesterday and I really love it :tu: it's surprisingly my first PX.

the red PX and Weltool T2 TAC make for a really great light weight minimalistic carry that suits most of my needs on a day-to-day basis.

I think Bell really loves the PX awlso :D
