Day 9

Opened some packets of BRCC instant coffee to try with the Swiss Buck.  The coffee is not very good, even Nescafe instant coffee is much better.  My favorite instant coffee would be Jacob's Cronat Gold.

 Day 9

Whew :ahhh

I thought my Slim Select Red had slid into the trash bag last week!  I could not locate after using for cutting down some boxes.

It had been tucked into my chore coat pocket and found this morning.

Now to slip into my hike bag where it has been assigned for lighter duty😜

The Brown Slim Select +  will have pocket duty today.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I've been dealing with sick kids and sick myself in bed for 2 days. I'm still here though and will make a catch-up post hopefully today. Keep it up everyone!

Glad you found it.  You just stored it in a “safe place”.  So safe, you could not find it.

My kids have learned all about dad’s “safe place”.   The events have become the butt of many family jokes

Glad you found it!  I hate it when I lose stuff and I was positive it was where it was supposed to be a minute ago.  Guess I'm just losing my mind.

Swift recovery!!

Day 9

I felt something bugging me on my thumb for the last day or so, but I couldn't figure out what it was.  I finally put on my binoculars and turned on a strong light, and I was able to see a sliver stuck in my thumb.  The tweezers on the Swiss Legend saved the day.  The tiny red dot on my thumb is where that sliver was.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Thank you both  !

I knew it was missing, BECAUSE, I knew I had not put it where it belonged. And in the back of my mind I knew it would get misplaced. And, because I procrastinated doing so, that when I finally decided to tidy up, I found that I forgot when I lost sight or lost that nagging voice of reminding me!!!   Oh well!

It was awl explained in this quip I recently read.

“My LEFT brain does not work because it is no longer right!
And, my RIGHT  brain is out of service because there is nothing left! “

In old age, there is awl ways a explanation you see!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Today I switched from standard 110 to SlimPro version. I cut some cherry tomatoes for breakfast and opened a package of coffee beans to prepare morning coffee :)

Day 9; mail call.

Just after the new year, I ordered a pair of 1/87 trucks off the Mack website.  It was originally scheduled to show up last Saturday, but they weren't able to due to the weather. Finally, they showed up today.

I carried the broken 1993 110 today. Decided to use it for sharpening practice this morning, and was quite surprised at my results. Still getting a new blade, however.

Day 9

I want to talk about the 303 Cadet a bit today. It's a neat little knife, but kind of odd in some ways. Mine is awlso used, so not sure how much of the weirdness is original.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]
110 for scale

The 303 is one of the two small stockmans in Buck's line, and the smaller of the two American made models. At 3.25" closed with a 2.5" master blade, it's the same size (but roughly twice the cost) as the made in China 373 trio. Consensus seems that they're pretty even in quality. There are also the larger 371 (Chinese) and 301 (USA) both at 3 7/8". For comparison, the smaller ones are in line with the Case 44 (medium w/ square bolsters) and the larger ones are similar to the 47.

I assume most people on here already know this, but the old Buck logo is a representation of a demo they used to do where they cut a bolt using one of their fixed blade models. Would love to see a Buck vs Leatherman demo where they go against each other on nuts and bolts.

The 303 has what I'd consider to be more of a pen blade in place of the spey. The larger stockmans get more traditional speys. I thought it might just be wear on this model (which had clearly been sharpened quite a few times before it came into my possession), but the photos I see online seem to be similar.

On the whole, I think I like the Cases better. The walk and talk is a bit smoother, I like having a "real" spey blade, and the curves fit my hand a bit better. Price is fairly comparable. Still, I don't think you'd do badly with a 303 in your pocket if you like Bucks and small-medium stockmans.

For other 303 owners, is my spey/pen blade representative? And how would you rate your walk and talk? Might just be my PA native fanboy talking.

Day Nine of Buck

Stayed home most the day. Gave the 110s a good oiling with Remington gun oil.

Nice use.  I haven’t found an instant coffee I like.  The best to me I’ve tried is Alpine, but I usually just use regular coffee with single use pour over paper

Day10

Cut some reinforced packing tape  with the Buck Slim Select to seal the envelope containing the Buck Lite  as it makes its way to its new home with GA1dad.

I have to admit that it wasn’t the ideal tool for the job as it frays the reinforcement threads in the tape. Scissors would have been better. Regardless, it did the job, and as they say “Done is better than Perfect”
