Day 1

Carrying my Benchmade 550SBK today. It has assisted me in freeing my new Arc from the retail box today. I am also doing some painting around the house. I got a couple of paint spots that I missed cleaning up yesterday and earlier today. The 550SBK has helped me scrape the paint up. I will touch up the edge tomorrow after I get a little closer to being done with the painting

I was debating joining this or if I wanted a break after the Buck challenge.  So I'll throw my name in the ring, but we'll see if I end up tapping out early.  :salute:

Day One of Combo Edge

I'm going with a Spyderco Delica 4 for edc this challenge. It's light, well built and has a pretty solid rep.  I have some other combo edge knives I'll probably carry for a bit but this one will be on me for the duration.

I am not promising I'll be able to complete this challenge, as I mentioned before the loss of my mum has hit me hard, but getting through it a bit easier over the last day...

DAY 1

The folders, I have another somewhere, but apart from these three, I am limited

Day 2

Mowed the lawn with the Spirit clipped to my pocket. Love this model, the butterblade is a winner imo

Day 1

Spyderco Endura 4.  This is the Thin Red Line version.

I’m anticipating carrying and using this one quite a bit for this challenge, but we’ll see.

I’ve bent the clip a bit, so it isn’t quite so tight.  Most of the time, I find myself having to do this to new knives, as the pocket clips are usually way too tight.  I don’t need something that is going to stay put while I jump out of airplanes; I much prefer something that is easy on, easy off, and won’t tear up my pocket.

On the subject of tearing up pockets, I don’t mind that the handle is FRN, but the texturing is way too aggressive.  I can sometimes appreciate the grip enhancement provided by some light texturing.  But designers sometimes seem to think that more is better, and I just don’t agree.

I don’t consider VG-10 steel to be anything special, but should be servicable.  I do appreciate that Spyderco continues to make these in Japan, rather than chasing absolute minimum cost elsewhere.

Overall, it seems like a decent knife for what I paid for it.

Glad to have you here gra_farmer.  I've felt your pain back at the end of 2021.  Hopefully we can at least provide a bit of distraction for you when you need it.

Day 1

We're starting off with my Kershaw Leek.  I've had this one for 20yrs now.  I thought I'd lost it forever one time so I picked up another one.  Turns out it had fallen out of my pocket in a friends couch and I ended up finding it a month later.  I gave him the newer one I had bought.

This knife has been used as a hammer, a prybar, and all sorts of other things I shouldn't have been using it as.  I know I've replaced the spring bar on this thing at least 5 times.  It's gone to 29 states with me and it's still going.  I mostly carry a SAK now but every now and then I make it part of EDC for a week or so.  I guess you could say it's semi-retired.  It's definitely coming out of retirement for a least a week, maybe more.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

DAY 2

The Benchmade 800HSSR AFCK, a relatively new addition to the collection, in November last year, helped open and separate a few walnuts...

I wanted a spyderco military for ages, and stupidly missed one about 4 years ago sold at a reasonable price...I have been looking since....but then the 800HSSR AFCK turned up, very similar in looks, M2 steel, G10 handle and titanium liners, used good condition and boxed, I jumped at it for the equivalent of $85

Day 2
I took the EZ out for a woods walk.  I whittled a little on a hard, seasoned dead stick and discovered a couple of things.  First, the plain section of the knife is so far away from the handle that you have very little leverage to cut anything tough.  And it is not terribly sharp.  Second, the serrated section doesn't whittle well at all.  When it does cut off a section, it leaves it with channels in the wood.  Although it feels sharp, it doesn't cut very well either.  Third, the pocket clip has to go.  I never use a pocket clip and it ruins the hold on the Gerber.  Fortunately, it is held on with a single bolt.  We will see if it holds the blade cross pin in place, or not.  That little stick wasn't all I cut.  It got a better test than that.
I am not really sure what the designers had in mind for the EZ out.  It is easy to carry, but not well suited to any sort of practical use.  A user can one-hand open this thing, but it isn't comfortable.  The holes in the blade are not very ergonomic for this method of opening.  I can open it one handed, but it is not something to just 'flick' open like the boobs on U toob do.  That has to be one of my least favorite features of knife reviews there.  Someone always opens up a package containing something and they hold some sort of flipper clipper in front of the camera and 'flick' it open to make someone hopefully go "oooooh".  It is a stupid stunt and doesn't impress anyone.  Best wishes.  G

Day 2

I used this knife part of the time during the Buck Challenge.  I’ve owned it for at least 12 years.  I found it in a old timey country hardware store at a reduced price when I lived in middle Tennessee.

Some nice posts today.  Seems like most are getting their portions done rather late in the day.  So far I recognized most of the hardware.  I did need to look up the cute Buck that friend Jeff posted.  I saw it in the Buck Challenge already, but didn't take the time to research it.  The cruel groundhog here in the US has cracked his tiny gavel and sentenced us all to 6 more weeks of winter.  I don't know if that is just for Punxsatawney, Pennsylvania and environs or whether his bailiwick extends this far south.
    Best wishes.  G

Great posts awl!  I did this challenge last year with a Skeletool KBx. Its been great as a daily carry and I kept it in my pocket for many months after the challenge. It’s done everything I needed it to do, until I traveled….

I went away for a weekend and anticipated needing more  tools so I went back to the old SAK for a while. But I realize how much I liked the ultra lightweight Skeletool.

A friend of mine is a Groundhog Ambassador up in Punxy.
It's not a large town at all.  For this years festival they got in 40,000 people.  I have no idea where they put them all.  I can say, there's enough lights on that groundhog when they let him out for the event that the only way he won't see a shadow is because he's blinded

I think more winter for us in Central Texas just means more rain.  I appreciate the rain but i wouldn't mind a bit more cold.  I hardly to get wear any of my hoodies or jackets.

Day 2

Just mail call duty today unfortunately.  We were tied up half the day picking up a foster-to-adopt furry friend.

Mini Griptilian again today. One thing I realized today is a lot of companies use the exact same pattern on serrations. I wonder why?

Day 2

Colonial Rigging Knife

This is a good quality piece of kit.  Locking spike, non-locking blade.  Sadly, I don’t believe they are made anymore.  Scales are Zytel.  Unlike some other marlin spikes I have, this spike is very sharp; probably sharp enough to use as an awl.
