Day 13

Everyone be careful today.  Sunday the 13th.  That is only 30% less unlucky than Friday the 13th.  Figuring a 15% decline for each day away.  Give or take.
I think the nutty fellow who used to live across the road must have moved.  He wore out 3 new mowers in about 5 years.  Mowed his own lawn, then kept on going out into what used to be a hay field and mowed that too.  Something over 5 acres about twice a week.  In his final stages, I heard him talking to the old codger who built a shed on the side of the road asking him if he wanted somebody to mow around it.  That must have been a negative because I saw him mowing along the right of way beside the state road near his house.  I thought about building a little bridge over the creek so he could come and mow my yard.
I haven't cranked a mower or weed wacker yet.  So far, the deer are doing their best to keep up the lawn maintenance.  I see anywhere from four to six working at certain hours.  Plus, I think they have a night shift.
A few more days of Tourist, then I think I will re-SAK.  How about a photo of my Mac kit at the laundromat?  Best wishes. G

Day 12

My Spartan saved the day. Was on a bike ride and had a blowout. Tire had a cut. Used the old inner tube to form a patch and protect my new tube so I could get home. Time for new tires. Glad I had the Spartan Seth me out it would have been a very long walk home. I probably could have used the duct tape too. Took photo when I got home safely.

How do you stick the patch to the inner tube? Or just held by pressure?

No uses yet this morning, so my old Champion is posing with a Transformer I've had since I was a kid in the 80s. The SAKs are like Transformers, transforming into saws, fish scalers, etc.

No picture in action but I used some of my gorilla tape to cover up some of the frayed cable on my grandpa's walker brakes.

Day 13

Since I was confused by my COMPACT, I am toting it today!

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Then rotating through YouTube I  viewed a quick review of the COMPACT and learned that I needdd to exam my tool closer.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The backside sports a Hook tool adjacent to the corkscrew,  and examining the exposed edge is sporting a NAIL FILE.  BLOODY BRILLIANT!

Can cut a hang nail with the very functional scissors and then smooth the edge with out deploying the hook. Small but functional.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

PS:  Pork n Beans is a great staple!  Never thought of mixing with pasta or tomato sauce.

Even spaghetti Os sounds clever.

I have dressed up mine in a variety of ways.
If a big batch, brown up 1 lb hamburger,,add meat and juices to make flavorful.
Or, a package of hotdogs diced for beanie weenie.

Italian or Breakfast sausage another additive.

Of course a little barbecue sauce, maple syrup, or honey; or awl three.

Also, leftovers make a great condiment onto a brat tucked in a bun.

Leftovers good hot or cold, breakfast with eggs, lunch or dinner. Even just a snack.

Best if I cook in a crock pot all afternoon on low for at least 4 hours or more.   Add butter beans and Lima to dress it up.

Next Sunday a concoction of beans will be my contribution for our family Easter gathering😁
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I slit the tube, held it against the tire where the cut was and then put the new tube in and it held it in place. Provided enough protection to get me home. Otherwise the new tube would have been exposed to the same cut in the tire. Ordered some new tires -- hoping the Grand Prix 5,000's hold up....will see how I like them next weekend.

DAY 13

My first SAK I bought myself, went into 'Field and Trek' and bought this little pick of joy at the age of 11, for £5....I was offered with or without a keyring....for good or bad, I went without, thinking it would be in the way?

Anyway, I honestly don't know what this is called, but it helped prep dinner....now how do I add a paper clip???

DAY 13 My Compact with 2 clips and tape.  It gave me another brilliant idea.  I'm going to drill a small hole in the plastic tube so I can hook it onto the paperclip and have them easily attached to the SAK.   :o

Some good uses and tips around today. I think I'll probably be spinning up the mower (our lot is small enough that I can use a reel mower) late this week or next weekend. I don't mind it. Don't like the weed wacker quite as much.

Day 13

Gone fishin'. I didn't catch anything, but the kid I took with did, and said "I love you, dad." before he left (we are not related), so good enough.

Some fishing gear thoughts;

1. Did you know that you can get a nice MOLLE vest at the surplus store for about half of what a cheap fishing vest costs, and it'll come with far more pouches than you need?

2. While the MP600 Pro Scout fits easily in the mag pouch, the smaller pliers on the MP400 are a better choice for fishing. I like the sliders better than butterflies, since they are better at prying stuff open, which is occasionally helpful when fishing.

3. The Angler is a great SAK to give your fishing buddy when he leaves his Leatherman at home, but you know what I really want Vic to make? 130mm Rangergrip Fisherman. The big Ranger-Pliers, Wenger style scaler/hook puller (like it better than the Vic one), and a pair of scissors. It's a shame Wenger never got to iterate more on the swing out pliers, and that Vic will probably never make a new model with them. They're a huge upgrade to the "mega tweezers" that are most SAK pliers, but still easier to carry and use than most PBMTs.

My 6yo son couldn't take it anymore and had to get his mower out today. He got it for free last summer from a man a couple of houses down from us. He couldn't get it running so we figured it would be a good project. First thing we did was dump out the old gas and put new in. Fired up in a few pulls. After it sat all winter. We filled it up and it started in the first pull! He "mowed" a little and got bored after a bit. But the fact that he would rather be out pushing his mower and helping me in the yard instead of in front of the TV is good enough for me!

Nice!  And at 6yrs old.  That's outstanding.   I'm almost done cleaning up some debris in the backyard so I can get mowing.  Still trying to grow grass in the front yard but the large oak trees don't let too much light through.

Day 13

Switched to the Climber this week along with a new golden clip.  Got to use the flat head on the Climber today to fix the trash can but in my haste to get it done, I neglected to take a picture so here's a beauty shot instead.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Day 13

Used the SwissChamp to replace a gutter runoff on the roof. Also used the awl to start a few screw holes for the repair.

Took my Leatherman Wave and Crunch up with me just in case I needed more, but the Champ managed everything.

Paperclip and tape were along for the ride, but were unneeded.

I’ve been posting in the wrong thread again! Let me recreate the posts here…

Day 12

Had a couple of uses today. First was cutting this packaging strap on a new baseball bag for my son.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The second was using the can opener to wedge open a broken latch on the dog’s leash so I could get it off the harness.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Day 13

The flathead driver helped tighten the screw on the lid of our Dutch oven.

There… that should have me caught up!
