That's an interesting Zippo SAK-A-Like.  Never seen one of those in person.

Day 22

Used the ISC Century Mercury to open some fresh coffee.

The Mercury has the same tool layout as the Vic Tinker with some slight variations.  One of those variations is the tip on the Phillips.  The Vic is on top and the Century on the bottom.

May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

AND... best of all the Zippo thing is red.  That practically makes it a Sak-a-like right there.
Guy came and cut up the dead dogwood blocking my driveway.  He sat on the tailgate of his truck and we had a nice visit.  Talking about old friends and relatives and times.  Tearing off the bottom of your shirt to make a kite tail.  Teachers from high school.  I enjoyed it almost as much as getting my driveway cleared.  Almost.  I forgot to take a photo.
Best wishes.  G

Nice story that brings back memories.  Used to be if you were driving the rural roads where I grew up, if someone was going the opposite direction, you both stopped for a talk out the driver side window.  As the book says, "the past is another country, they do things differently there."

Day 22

The Armbar couldn’t cut it today.

I got a case of canned tomatoes and several of them are dented badly enough that I am unable to use a regular can opener since the edge is no longer round.  I’ve needed to use the can opener on the SAK to cut through the top in the parts that a regular can opener gets stuck on.  :dunno:

I think I would consider the cute picnic knife a hobo.  Some hoboes have a split personality, and some have it all together.
Works for me! :tu:

I think it's cool!   8)
:hatsoff:  And the Alox Adler is equally cool!

Day 22

We'll call the Ridge Runner a small hobo and take a more in-depth look at it. The fork and spoon are perfectly adequate...you might just have to adapt to eating at a slower pace.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The blade has an etch and a good edge. Awl tools have half-stops. :tu:

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

The last tool is a can opener. I don't recall ever having used it, so it may need a little sharpening, but it is a tried-and-true lobster claw sort. You could probably open a Jarritos bottle with it in a pinch.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

I've awlready reached a verdict on this one. I feel it would be a good addition to a camping mess kit, a survival kit, or any of the various bags that prepper types go on about. And even though it sems to be discontinued, you're not likely to break the bank in purchasing one. That's a pretty solid win in my book.

Day 22

A little HOBO KNIFE.  tang reads STELLAR Japan.

Just top side tools,  and blade is razor sharp!!  I touched it with back of thumb and then blood and more blood

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

My brother found this, did recall from where and gave to me last fall. Needs a soak and polish.
This is a huge example of a SAK-a-like.

One back side utensil is broken, maybe corkscrew.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 23

Waaaal boys, gather round the fire with us.  We're peacable.  Mostly.  I see ya brung a bottle.  We're in luck.  We got a box of peaches what....fell?.... offin' a truck or something.  We shares what we got in this camp.  Don't allow no fightin',knifin, nor trouble makin.  What's that in yer poke?  A chicken?  Hopey, cut a green stick and we'll help you cook the critter.

While the hoboes are celebrating their good luck, I might as well show you mine.  I've had this since I was a wee one.  I remember carrying this silly thing.  Seems like I dragged it out and used it in a pizza preparation?  You can see the back-tools.  Maybe you lost the corkscrew.
This one has a leather pouch marked Mitsubishi with the usual three diamond trademark.   Tool is marked Japan and GC Co for the importer (Gutmann Cutlery).  Might as well use it for my post today.
Best wishes.  G

Well GARY, your’s appear to have the same tool set as does the one I pictured.

Spoon and Fork are marked STAINLESSSTEEL on the back handles.    Your model looks pristine.

Tool is going in a warm bath today.   Now curious how it will clean up.   Yep, it is the cork screw that mine is broken.

Thank you for sharing !   And that your dad did not relief you of this knife.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Dad took me along on a fishing trip when he got that hobo knife.  I stayed in the car while he went in a little country store and bought some soda or maybe an ice cream for me and came out with the treasure.  Remember the little flat cups of ice cream?  You had to peel a little wooden spoon out of a paper to lap it up.  Anyway, I thought the bulky thing was a treasure.  The knife, not the ice cream.  I might not have started school.
I never touched the knife for decades at a time.  It just lay around the house somewhere.  Dad would have taken it and converted it into cash or something else, but probably figured it wouldn't bring anything.  Anything in the house was fair game for him.  On the other hand, if he picked up a nice knife somewhere that I liked he would give it to me.  For a while anyway.
For a long time he carried a little fold up advertising give-away knife.  I asked him once why he kept it.  He said it was too sorry to sell.  I thought he liked it.  He did get other knives all the time.  Then he would swap them off or something.  Also watches.  He swapped shirts with a guy in a country store once.  A nice old Robeson stayed in our home for a long time.  He probably put it in a drawer and forgot it.  I didn't mess with it much.  It was like a razor.
I still have the little crummy fold up knife if anybody wants to see it.  Just ask.  Best wishes.  G

The blade was actually good.  It didn't originally have the forked end on it.  Dad whittled on the  plastic part by taking the blade out.  He almost made it non-functional.  He did the same thing on my toys.  Whittled on the plastic.
It has an address for a chemical company in Greenville, SC on it.  He carried it all the time.  Used it to clean fingernails and cut fishing line, etc.  Somebody probably gave him the thing.  I'm actually surprised he didn't throw it away.  That was more in his nature.
Best wishes.  G

Stopped for lunch at a different Mexican restaurant today.  The LionSteel Jack 2 and I were impressed by the size of the “Mucho Grande Burrito”.

For those who may be wondering, I couldn’t quite finish it, but got very close.

I'm pretty sure I could finish that burrito. And I'm reminded of one of my favorite Mexican restaurants back in Fresno. One day I went there and ordered nachos, expecting to get a small helping. Instead, I got a standard carry-out Styrofoam box packed to the rafters. Those little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants are awesome!

Day 23

Here's a Camillus 27 that I've enjoyed carrying. The paracord lanyard is a recent addition. Some work is still need on the pace-count beads shown along with the 27 (note the bead fourth from the top; it was too loose, and I haven't finished off the tightened end yet).

Day 22:

My Kodak may be an old (2006!), entry-level point and shoot, but it still takes great photos for its age.

Thinking about one of the Pentax Tough series cameras as its replacement--that or Olympus. New--$350-ish for the WG-8 (which has a ton of nice features), $200-ish for the WG-1000 (which I prefer due to being smaller). That being said, my Walmart has a nice looking Canon at that same price point (Rebel T1). Only problem is--not a pocket camera, and not rugged. I'm hard on consumer electronics.

Extremely high-res isn't important to me, but good clear photos are. The cheapo Vivitar PopSnap I bought as a replacement takes blurry, noisy, and generally poor  quality photos.
