Day 24
Decided to carry the Aitor Gran Capitan today.

It opened a box containing a new knife.

It also opened a couple snacks

Aitor is probably my favorite "B tier" brand. Great multis.

But there gummy’s not beef bites? So watermelon gummy’s with a coating of chili?
JR
Yes. I don’t know if you’ve ever had Sour Patch Kids, but it is like the took a bag of watermelon Sour Patch Kids and covered it in chili powder in place of the sour coating.
Aitor is probably my favorite "B tier" brand. Great multis.
I’ve only been able to try this one, because they are hard to find, but it is a well built tool.

I looked at lots of knives at the flea markets.  If there were only one or two on a table, I would likely price them.  If it was a dealer with a showcase or roll of knives, I might pick out something to look at and maybe not.  One dealer/friend had his roll and I saw a SAK sized red camp knife with a shield and X.  I asked him what it was and held out a hand.  He said, "Oh, that's a Spanish thing."  He said it in such a way that he figured the sorry thing was beneath my notice.  So, I passed on.  I would have like to handle it.  Might have bought it.  I actually saw several at one time or other, but never bothered to look at them.
Moral of the story.  If you are a dealer and someone wants to see something you have, show it to them.  A sale is a sale.
Best wishes.  G

Pop tops make the can opener sad.
But this can opener isn't sharpened or even ground, just stamped with no edge.... so it was probably sad already.

My Dad showed me how to open cans with a jack knife.  I didn't think of it as dangerous, but of course it was.  I was opening a can with my knife and my Dad saw what I was doing.  He took me to task for ruining my knife.  So, I stopped doing it.  I looked at my knife, and sure enough the can lid had put some nice nicks in the blade.
I'm sure Dad must have been using his knife to open cans.  Outdoor use, of course.  Fishing or whatever.  He picked up a P-38 folding can opener and carried it for years.  Lots of the old can openers on knives required lots of effort to use or just failed.
I wouldn't think of using a knife blade as a can opener now.  Best wishes.  G

Ironically it was the can opener that originaly drew me to this Imperial. When I found it at the pawn shop it was just another sak-a-like camper, but as soon as I saw the curve of the can opener I remembered my 1st Imperial as a kid.

Whats a multitool without a bottle opener? I had to try it out at least once. It did the job with a couple of pulls

Day 25

Speaking of can openers, here's FRED, the smurfing Ridiculous Eating Device Field Ration Eating Device. Mine is made in China, but they were designed for the Australian military. Just enough spoon to eat with, small/flat enough to fit in a wallet, and a solid bottle/can opener. I suppose the back end could probably make it as a light scraper/pryer/flathead if it had to. I've dabbled with trying to put a (very slight) edge on one side. Not enough to be a "knife" just enough to help it open a box or badly cut a donut or something in portions. It's a nice compliment when I'm carrying a basic folder, and I probably use the emergency spoon 2 or 3 times a year. Kind of reminds me of (but tastes better than) the wooden ice cream spoons one of you mentioned a few days back.

Have a Pumpkin cameo.
:like:

I was a little disappointed (both clip and saw) in the Scout as well
I've tested the saw on my Armbar Scout previously. It's not as good as those on a Victorinox or a Leatherman, but I found it okay.

The other two have no idea what to call them.
One looks like a single-cut file with a slotted screwdriver tip.

Lunch time
 Even better with Jarritos!

Day 25

I tightened up the knobs on the closet doors today. Bi-fold doors mean odd angles and little light, so this was a tricky action shot.

Two knobs were within the desired range, and one had a stripped screw. The Curve's 2D Phillips did a surprisingly good job on the other five.

Some minor repairs; that leg in the upper left split and had to be glued, then reattached. Used the Imperial's awl to scrape old glue, both from the piece and from the bottle cap.

The ratchet driver is my trusty old auger brace with a 1/4 hex quick change chucked in it, I love this thing as a bit driver.

Rained yesterday.  Made it a good day for black-eyed peas.  I don't know what all the spiders do all year, but they sure get active in the fall.  Sak-a-like with a spider.  Best wishes.  G

I went out to the car yesterday around 6:30 am to discover that our neighborhood black bear took an interest in our trash can again   I gathered up what he scattered and discovered later he bent the shepherd's pole pam has the hummingbird feeder on.  It's been awhile since we've been visited
Day 25

Tonight trash and recycle bins go to the street.

Several card board boxes needed to be cut down, and the only knife in my pocket is my grey Ozark.

And just like a SAK it was sharp right up to the point it was not.   Tried a stropping, but no, the edge was requiring more grit.   Ten boxes, is the limit, and task was completed by my garage utility blade.

Picture is after, and the. Made edge returned to hair shaving (arm hair😉) sharp.

[ Quoting of attachment images from other messages is not allowed ]

This the most SAK-a-like knife steel I have, both this Grey and the RED OZARKs performed identical with exception of the scissors.

The Camillus crossout and Case Scout Jr both have better steel.   For the models that I enjoyed carrying so far.

I have resisted buying additional models 😯. But did catch myself looking yesterday at a Sportsman’s Warehouse. No Gerbers Armbar on the pegboard. So close..,

Day 26

Today I decided that I was going to finish this challenge with my Camillus crossout. It is just a nice carry, sharp and functional for my simplest needs.

Upon studying the flaws, thought I can trim those bumps  of plastic from the molding over runs.   So I knew my GI Jack had a nice sharp edge as well.

Well…

Gotcha.  The older I get, the more gotchas I get.  I think I would have used a file personally.  Maybe a mini-grinder.  Seems like the mini grinder gets a lot more work.
Lots of rain yestiddy.  The soaked ground put another tree across my driveway.  I took a bow saw out of my truck and did the push and pull for a while.  Dead red cedar.  Not big enough to call for help.
Might get in on some tropical storm action by first of the week.  You don't know how much I am looking forward to that.
By the way, they sold those bolsterless blue Camillus knives as a Boy Scout Utility Knife.  As opposed to an Official Boy Scout Knife.  There was a Cub version as well with the Cub toolset and liner locks.  Yours was a second, so it didn't get the stamped on scout emblem.  Best wishes.  G

Yep, 2 seconds or was it 3, I thought to myself, a file will do the same thing!   But, heck it was about 4 steps away…

My first  pocket knife was that my dad knew about,  was a CUB Scout knife, pretty sure it was a Camillus made, Delrin knife, with the shield and with awl, cap lifter, can opener and an spear point blade.

I suspected my crossout was a model made later that would have had a screen print emblem.   Maybe after Camillus lost the Scout contract.

My younger brothers destroy my Cub Scout knife, I left in my dresser drawer when I left for tech school, the 3 of us shared a room then and when I left, what I did not claim after 1 year was fair game, except my fishing equipment which was in the basement.

It is fantastic that she yet uses her knife from when she was 8 or 9!

But, then we must understand that she is most likely way younger than some of us old goats.

She maybe awl of 30 or 32 today.    Would not surprise me if much younger than that, as I am really guessing.
A youngster for sure!

You know it's bad manners to talk of a lady's age.  At a family reunion long ago, one of my cousins asked Grandma how old she was.  She said 59.  Even though she had two daughters and a son older than that at the time.  Grandma wasn't the kind of person to lie.  The only thing I can figure is she just quit counting somewhere along the line.

Oh my!  I thought it was bad manners to discuss her weight!!!

Age was to be excepted if you are way older, I am, pushing 72 next month!

And, shucks, I was just protecting my friend Echo, if he was implying if SOS ‘s Girl Scout knife was a relic of sort. ☺️
