Ko Konjōjo mini ratchet
on: May 07, 2025, 01:09:01 PM
I picked up this tiny keychain ratchet from an ad I saw online and I thought it might be fun to check out.  The concept is pretty neat- it's a folding keychain sized ratcheting bit driver with a bit carrier that holds five bits.

When it arrives it looked exactly the same as it was advertised, which isn't always the case with the ad based purchases.  I've had a few that were nothing like what was shown, so it's always a bit of a gamble.  A fun gamble, but a gamble nonetheless!

It's actually a pretty neat setup.  It has a button release lock that locks the ratchet head in the open and closed positions, and the ratchet itself is bidirectional with a regular lever type switch.  It feels solid, although I haven't used it for much yet.

I don't know how much pressure the lock can take, but given how small it is you aren't likely to get a lot of leverage for a really tough screw anyway, so it's probably good enough for its intended use.  If you add an extension bar, you get what you get.....  :ahhh

The bit carrier slots into a 1/4" or 6mm slot in the handle and is held in place with a combination of friction and a magnet.  I appreciate that as friction can be expected to loosen up over time.

It also means that if you do meet up with a tough screw, rather than using the ratchet you can use the fixed driver on the back as a T handle screwdriver.  It makes sense, if you have to make a hole for a bit carrier anyway, might as well make it as useful as possible, right?

I'm not sure I agree with the selection of included bits unless they intend this tool for cyclists or people who assemble a lot of Ikea furniture.

It comes with five bits- a Phillips, a flathead and three hex drivers.  I imagine some cyclists will appreciate it but I don't often encounter these screws.  Still, from a versatility standpoint it makes a nice change from what is usually included with multitools and SAKs.

All in all it's a neat little tool and I look forward to putting some miles on it and reporting back.

Nice little gadget, thanks for sharing!

Is that a lock button in the handle? It's a good idea to have the open ratchet locked, but how much torque can it handle? By it's size, it probably won't be used for any heavy tasks, maybe that's strong enough for it.

It's quite small and locks open and closed.  I don't know how much pressure that lock would take, but I feel like if it's something you are concerned about, use either the fixed bit holder on the back or get a bigger/better tool.

It seems like I'm forever seeking out a tool that does a good job of tightening doorknob screws. That itty-bitty folding ratchet looks like it might do decently in that role. Have you tried it on a doorknob?

I've got enough mini ratchets.

Now I want one of those.

I have not but I will try it this evening and let you know.  The very small head seems like it would be ideal for sneaking in behind the knob though- great idea!

I was sure I had seen this tool before, and sure enough, I had:

A much more detailed review from our own Puncher of Reamers.   :D

Not many people seem to... :-\
Mine came with three Allen and two Torx. I'd rather have three Allen, a flat, and a Phillips.  :hatsoff:
