Carrying the 4-inch, Rough Ryder Sunfish again today.  I wanted an elephant toe / sunfish for a long time and this one fit the requirements of decent quality for not too much money. I highly recommend it.

Day 21

New knife MONDAY 😎

I utilized my new Neo6 Opinel, carried via my  neck sheath I used with the GARDEN KNIFE.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

Also, carried and used my case Wharncliff Trapper as I was trimming away some unwanted shoots from my Rose bushes.  (Middle knife)

And, I also slipped into my pocket a new SAUNTER  made by Buck!  (Bottom)

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 21

New Lightweight Knife Day - a Buck 363 Rival.  This guy weighs in at 0.7 ounces.  I like the feel of it in my hand - it's small, but not too small.  I'm not a fan of the long lockback tab, or whatever it's called.  It works fine - it just feels weird compared to other lockbacks.

You guys really like Opinel.  :tu:  I guess I need to give them another look.  The ones I bought seemed very cheaply made.   Any recommendations on a good one that will make me love the knives?

I would not describe a Opinel as “cheaply made”!

Maybe “Simplistic Designed”!

I have seen them in stores before, and I looked past them.  In the past couple years this forum, actually a handful of members by examples made me curious.

Some examples shared were generational, actually aged nicely, with great wood and metal patina, but more importantly, yet fully functional.

I will suggest that you determine what you would really what task to complete with a simple knife.

I know Barry has a larger model, or his wife, that cuts bread.  Another has a 12 that is designed for camp chores or part of their hiking kit.

[ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

These are two, I look forward to having handy.
The top is a Effile’ No8,  it is elegant, about the size of a fountain pen, yet is suburb at slicing a quality steak at a premium steak house if given cutlery I had not been maintained😉

The other, is great to fit in my hiking/walking kit. Combo blade can cut most any material with ease and has an inbuilt whistle great for getting others attention instead of yelling.   It does come in a variety of colors plus it is synthetic so moisture is not an issue either.

The woods utilized by Opinel are good quality, and they are price accordingly.

The No8 is apparently the standard size. I find a No9 fits my hand better and makes a good handling tool for my needs.

The No6 is the smallest model supporting the LOCKING RING. This size Carrie’s well as it is small, and very light.
The No7 is my preferred smaller sized😊

Olive wood and Walnut are two of my favorites, they look nice!

Also, on select sizes Carbon blades are available, and Stainless is now the standard for awl models.

Fancy handles are made, special versions with hammered blades, picnic kits, bbq tools etc.

Then there are the models that are part of the Colorama line. Bright colors applied to a very tight grained wood that are very hardy.  Blue and Purple are two of my favorites.

Just my  2 cents!

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Thanks LC  :hatsoff:

I’m going to pull out my two Opinels when I get home.  I don’t mind the simplicity, but I remember thinking that the handle felt too light and the blade seemed too thin/flimsy.  Maybe I bought their lower end models, or maybe I was feeling extra crabby when I bought them.   I put them in my toolbox to use, but I kind of forgotten about them.   :(

I can't believe I've gone almost the whole month without carrying an electrician.  I'm not in the trade, but for some reason I've always liked them.  I decided to go with the 3 blade Colonial.

Is the screwdriver blade on an electrician strong enough to use as a light pry bar, or would it snap the same as any other blade?

I would vote for snap. Although, I think I've seen one with a bent tip, which you wouldn't see on a regular knife blade.

You guys really like Opinel.  :tu:  I guess I need to give them another look.  The ones I bought seemed very cheaply made.   Any recommendations on a good one that will make me love the knives?

Here are mine.

From top to bottom:

No. 12 - A bit too bulky, unless you really need that extra bit of blade for some reason.

No. 12 Explore - A No.10 size blade in a No. 12 size handle.  Heavy for an Opinel.  Useless gimmicks in handle make it uncomfortable.  Do not recommend.

No. 10 - This is the Goldilocks Opi IMO.  Fits my hand well, carries light and easy, and has enough blade for just about any task that might reasonably be expected of a folding knife.  If you don’t have one of these, get one.

No. 08 - Apparently their most popular model, but a little small for my hand and taste.

No. 08 Outdoor - I really wanted to like this knife, but I don’t.  The handle is small for my hand, the blade is small for an outdoors knife, I don’t like the serrations, and they missed the opportunity to make the shackle key function as a thumb hole.

No. 05 - The largest size without a locking ring. A far smaller knife than I generally prefer, but possibly a good option for dress pants or less permissive environments.
