This fellow arrived on it's own yesterday. You could say arrived solo.  ;)

(Image removed from quote.) (Image removed from quote.)

It was in way worse condition that I assumed by the pictures the seller posted online.
The back scale is missing a small piece and the blade... *sigh* it looks like someone sharpened it with a brick.

(Image removed from quote.) (Image removed from quote.)
Or tried to stab a brick and won.
It's hard to captire on camera but the entire surface is scratched heavily and the edge of the knife is sharpened unevenly.
It also looks like someone put a light taper on the top of the blade, near the tip. Could be that's stock, I don't know.

I do really like the shape and size of the knife. I think this is a perfect food companion.
The blade is noticably larger than the 91mm one (here with the Huntsman)
(Image removed from quote.)
So it's much easier to put butter on bread that with a 91mm.

Oh, and it reeks of oil. Heavy motor oil. So I have some cleaning to do.

Great catch, the 108mm Solo is one of my favorite knives! :2tu:

Don't worry too much about the bad sharpening. There is plenty of bladesteel left to work with to make it straight and even again

Bummer though that the back scale is missing a small piece  :-\

Thanks for the replies guys!
To be honest I dont'know how great this buy was. I don't know how difficult these are to get.
I saw it cheap and didn't think twice. However, when I got it I did regret my purchace because of the condition.
However, during cleaning and sharpening it grew on me. I am going to try it today at lunch.
(And see if it scares the masses. I got a few gasps when I pulled out a 111mm DAKv2 a couple of weeks ago)

Solo in Bacta Tank

It took a good 8 cycles through the ultrasonic cleaner to get most of the grease of. It still reeks of oil. In the end I added anti-grease kitchen cleaner.
The front scale is slightly loose. I might try to take it off and glue it back on. I may need to tighten the pivot joint, so it has to come off anuway.

Reprofiling on the Edge Pro

The blade is really dinged up and the edge of the blade dull and uneven. It took some serious reprofiling on the Edge Pro ((or Edge Plo, as it's a Chinese version) to get ot back in shape. It's back to a symmertical 15 degree edge and shaving sharp again.

Just a litte uneven curve left near the tang of the blade remains. I left it as I didn't want to take of more steel.

And this is the end result after oiling. I love the snapping action on this thing! I also put a CRK style lanyard on the knife late last night, it's not on the photo.
I'm looking foreward to lunch today!

They can be quite difficult to get at a good price. There are always couple of them available on eBay for around € 50, which is quite expensive in my opinion. (And I see people actually buy them for that amount... I sold a couple of them a while back and I guess I sold mine way to cheap).

I got mine, NIB, much cheaper, and not too long ago. I could sell for E 25 and still make a profit.

Yes, pairs up nicely. The Bugnards are part of a multiple knife sale and trade. It must have been a good deal  :D, since I bargained for a Woodsman and will get an Apprentice thrown in for free.  :D
