Yes that is an option for sure. The last one I sent in was $20 shipping each way so it’s right on the edge of being worth it for me.
I could wait till I have another one to send in I suppose now that you have me thinking about it.
If I did I think I’d pop the scales off just to make sure it’s not been apart. It doesn’t look like it but the original scales could be glued on. You never know.

:iagree: It's worth sending off for repair and "spa treatment." If Victorinox Canada is anything like their counterparts in the States, you may only need to pay for shipping both ways.

This Explorer came in the mail yesterday. Not sure if you can see it in the picture but the cross is nickel silver, which looks so good with the patina it develops. I'm sure that's part of the reason I love older, vintage Swiss Army Knives. I think this is mid-seventies, looking at the tang stamps and the tools. I was surprised when I pulled out the tweezers; most of those old aluminum tipped ones don't have much spring to them, but these are like new ones. Since the Explorer is my favorite 4-layer, and I love the older beauties I think this will see a fair amount of pocket time. Going to give it a cleaning and polish the scales first though.  :)

Nice one!

It does seem like the world is held together by Phillips screws these days…

Got a handyman from my wife and kids today. I have never even handled a SAK bigger than an explorer before but I have been curious about the pliers for so many years. This will be interesting to see how I like it. I usually carry a modded 4 layer SAK and a Leatherman style PS but this one should be good on its own

You'll like it.  It's a Craftsman with a corkscrew instead of a Philips head.  There's an owner's club somewhere here...

The Tinker is my favorite Vic by far, and I have 2 84mm and perhaps 4 91mms and a Deluxe. You see there was a glaring omission...the Super Tinker. So I rolled the dice and bought one for $15 on eBay, $21 shipped. I prefer the older ones and this was pre hook. I lucked out...the blades were very dull but undamaged. Very strong lock up no wiggle whatsoever. At the same time I ordered some neat scales from Etsy, cool topo style that are plus scales. I couldn't be happier.

A family pic may help you resist the next time you're tempted to get another one :D And who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised to discover that you only have 5...

I posted this over on the Blade Forums, but I used to be into Saks about 10-15 years ago.  I've still relied on them heavily, but have been more into other knives and have kept saks in my travel bags, camping bags.  Getting back into them as a main carry.  I'm the guy that always misses out on exclusives and special runs.  I'm always finding out about a knife only to find that they were discontinued 5 years ago.......

So anyway, I discovered since i was last into knives that they made a Farmer X with the scissors! And Red!!  So I go to the place that has the Red Farmer X's , it shows in stock, I try to order 2 (one for a Christmas gift).  It will let me add 1 to the cart, but not 2.  So I call the customer service to see if it is limited to 1 per customer, or what the deal is with it only allowing me to order 1 red Farmer X.  Turns out I got the very last Red Farmer X that they had.  Was told the Black Farmer X has been discontinued and they were 99.9% sure that their exclusive Red Farmer X was to be discontinued as well.  So Red Farmer X is what I have coming, barely got in on this one.

Spartan Lite arrived in the mail. A great way to get an inline Philips in a 3 layer knife.

Was that Knife Center? If so, two thoughts occur to me: I'd better scheme a way to get one each of their Bantams, and I hope this doesn't signal an inauspicious future for colored Alox on models other than the Classic SD.
