How come we don't have a thread on these? Need to rectify it. ;)

I was checking our FB page and noticed that posted a few weeks ago, a new Opinel for 2014, plastic handle, bit and bit driver, notches for stripping wire. :tu: 8cm long blade. It should be available in April at 19,90€.

I could see myself getting one of those for sure.

That looks cool!  I can see that being useful in many ways.  Just one problem, I have not yet started my Opinel collection.

Very nice! So, they are expanding their collection. The Outdoor was just a start.

Have you seen the Damascus?

Now that Damascus version is just too much. You people are a bunch of evil minded enablers. Please don't get me started on Opinels!!

Good to see some innovation in the functionality, while they stay true to the design. I wonder if there is a bit on each side? And if a black one is in the works  :D

From that last pic it is stated there are 2 bits, flat and Philips, one in each side, and the bit holder at the pommel is metal, and magnetic.  :tu:

pliers?  :D

It reminds me of the Kershaw Select fire for some reason...

I assume the outdoor was a success if they are making this now.

Easily modded. You just have to remove the vibro-lock ring. No backspring to keep it open though. :-\

(Image removed from quote.)

Is there an easy transplant for a back spring? I thinking my original idea of Vic compact + CT might be better now.

EDIT.

Sorry didn't see the picture. Cheers

Nope, no easy backspring transplant possibilities. You'd have an easier job transplanting the Opie blade to a SAK.

So, continuing in the original thread!  ;)

One thing I don't like is how much the closed blade protrudes from the handle. The ergonomics won't be good for screwdriving, me thinks.

Good to see they were true to their word about the price, 20 Euro is about $26, but I was hoping that was the MSRP. :P It's not too bad. ;) I'll wait and see when these become available locally or at least in Europe.

Yes, the blade shape looks very practical. I wonder what the price will be after some time?
